ork, PA - Miguel Angel Ascencio-Ayala did not make it to his hearing in court Tuesday.
When York County deputies told him they would have to search his property -- the court documents he had -- for contraband before transporting him from county prison to the Judicial Center, Ascencio-Ayala refused, Sheriff Rich Keuerleber said.
The 33-year-old started to raise his cane and fists at deputies, the sheriff said. One deputy was injured in the struggle that followed, taking Ascencio-Ayala to the floor.
"Needless to say," Keuerleber said, "he wasn't transported to court."
Keuerleber said his office will file charges in connection with the assault against Ascencio-Ayala before District Justice Barry Bloss.
Keuerleber said the injured deputy, whose name he declined to release, was treated for undisclosed injuries.
Ascencio-Ayala was scheduled Tuesday for a pre-trial conference on simple assault and harassment charges and false identification to law enforcement, and a parole violation hearing on charges of false ID and identity theft.
Those hearings have been moved to March 22.
