Police officer attacked, injured inside Manchester home
A Northeastern Regional police officer escaped serious injury when he was attacked by a man who the officer found in a Manchester home, lying at the bottom of a set of stairs, police said.
Officer Shaun Goodman, 31, suffered a bruised chest and a torn uniform shirt during the Thursday-night incident, but was able to return to duty, Northeastern Regional Police said.
Goodman and Officer Patrick Kidd were dispatched to 49 S. Main St. at 10:43 p.m. for a report of people inside being loud, police said. There, they made contact with three males in a rear apartment.
One of them, Mauricio Alvarado-Cantu, 21, of that address, was found lying facedown at the foot of a staircase, police said.
When Goodman tried to check his condition, Alvarado-Cantu kicked the officer in the chest several times, police said. After he was arrested, Alvarado-Cantu continued trying to kick and spit on officers as they were putting him in a police cruiser, police said.
Alvarado-Cantu remains in York County Prison on $20,000 bail, charged with aggravated assault, simple assault, resisting arrest, harassment and criminal mischief.
