Take Advantage of Extended Office Hours on Mondays: Beginning on Monday, Jan. 14, I will offer extended operating hours at my district office. Monday office hours will be from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Hours for Tuesday through Friday will remain 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. You can learn more about my office and the services available at www.RepGrove.com.
 
New Sexting Law Is Working:
Recently, two teens in Westmoreland County who could have had their lives ruined by felony child pornography charges were instead issued citations under Pennsylvania’s new law aimed at reducing teen sexting. You can read more about the incident here.
 
DCED Interest Rates Lowered to Spark Economic Growth and Job Creation:
In answer to a key recommendation of the Governor’s Manufacturing Advisory Council, the Department of Community and Economic Development announced this week that it has reduced the interest rates of five business loan programs to encourage new economic growth and job creation. Small Games of Chance Reporting Deadline Extended:
The deadline for nonprofit organizations and charities to submit reports as part of the updated Small Games of Chance Act has been extended to Feb. 1, 2014. The Small Games of Chance law was updated last session to give nonprofit organizations the ability to increase prize limits for small games of chance and thus raise more funding for charitable community service.More information about the extension is available here.
 
Pennsylvania’s Prison Population Decreases as Facility Closures are Announced:
Pennsylvania ended 2012 with a population decrease of 454 inmates, representing the largest one-year drop since 1971. On the heels of this good news, the Department of Corrections announced the closure of two older state prisons, which will save the taxpayers $23 million in the coming fiscal year alone.
