The Associated Press
HOLLIDAYSBURG, Pa.—The former caretaker of a western Pennsylvania cemetery faces up to life in prison for this third child-sex conviction, this one involving a 12-year-old girl he had accused of vandalizing the graveyard.Read more at www.inyork.comThirty-year-old David Allen Helsel, of Altoona, was convicted Thursday by a Blair County jury on 15 charges, including attempted rape of a child.
Authorities say the girl was one of several adolescents hanging out at Oakridge Cemetery in June 2009 when Helsel accused them of vandalism. Helsel told the girl and another to come with him and he allegedly held a knife to her neck while assaulting her in nearby woods.
Online records don't list a sentencing date.
Helsel had testified the confrontation occurred only because a boy in the group pulled a knife on him.
