Ardent Roman Catholic von Papen signed the Reichskonkordat together with Pope Pius XII in Rome the same year the film was made (1933). After that, Hitler was given the position of absolute dictatorship mainly because the Roman Catholic Zentrum party dissolved itself, which was one of the conditions of the Concordat itself.


During the war, von Papen chilled out as ambassador to Turkey. Close to to the end, he was “captured” by “allied” troops in Germany, and had to serve a “prison sentence” until 1949. His title as “Papal Chamberlain” was restored in 1959 by pope Paul XXIII. All the time, he had been a Knight of Malta.


Franz von Papen died in 1969, at the age of 89.

BISMARCK’S KULTURKAMPF (1871-1878), which was the expression of anti-Catholic policy, namely cleansing the Prussian empire from subversive and manipulative Vatican influence including banning the order of the Jesuits. This lead to, among other things, a two-year imprisonment of Cardinal Mieczyslaw Ledochówski, who was the uncle of Wlodimir Ledóchowski. The latter became Superior General of the Jesuits from 1915 until his death in 1942. After his imprisonment, Mieczyslaw returned to the Vatican and played the role of a highly venerated and influential authority. Wlodimir was only eight years old when his uncle was incarcerated.


The Prussians have payed for their resistance to Roman catholicism the last 100 years. First through almost complete destruction of infrastructure and slaughter through the wars of 1914-1918 and 1939-1945, and then through the slower process of demoralization, geographical disruption and spiritual death which lasted until 1990 during the “Communist” era.
