Adultery, Fornication, Homosexuality and Sensuality. What Do the Holy Scriptures Have to Say About These Things?

Amplify’d from 777denny.wordpress.com

First and foremost I want to say that Yahusha (Jesus is NOT the Name given to the Son of Yahuah) summed up the Law of Moses this way: “Thou shalt love Yahuah thy Elohim with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.”

So what does this have to do with sex you may ask? What Yahusha said also covers the subject of sexual sins and includes covetousness, of which I will cover later on.
Did you know that for about 1,700 the word ‘fornication’ has been misinterpreted by church leaders? Catholic church leader Tertullian (155-245 AD) wrote the following: ‘It is laws which seem to make the difference between marriage and fornication; through diversity of illicitness, not through the nature of the thing itself.” “…what is the thing which takes place in all men and women to produce marriage and fornication? commixture of the flesh, of course…” “[Marital sex], too, consists of that of which is the essence of fornication. Accordingly, the best thing for a man is not to touch a woman; and accordingly the virgin’s is the principal sanctity, because it is free from affinity with fornication.” From then on, including Catholics Augustine and Thomas Aquinas, the Catholic church taught that sex between a husband is wife was wrong and an act of marital fornication.
Tortillian hated women so much he condemned them and said they were a source of temptation for men and angels. He ordered all Christians to veil women and said this about women: “You are the devil’s gateway: you are the unsealer of that tree: you are the first deserter of the divine law: on account of your desert-that is, death-even the Son of God had to die.”

Jerome (347-419 AD) said this: “corruption attaches to all intercourse, and incorruption is characteristic of chastity, the rewards of chastity cannot belong to marriage.” He wanted married people to abstain from sex and said widows who married were prostitutes.

Origen Adamantius (185-254 AD) said the Holy Spirit leaves the bodies of married people who engage in sexual intercourse.

Accordingly, the synod of Elvira (306 AD) concluded sex was forbidden for married priests, the edict of Pope Siricius (386 AD) said that elders of the church must abstain from sex with their spouses, and finally, the Lateran Council (1123 AD) enforced celibacy of the priests, with days of forbidden sex for lay members. And during the middle ages, there were up to 180 day for such forbidden intercourse for married lay people.

Here is what the true meaning of fornication is:

  1. worship of idols and pagan gods (Exodus ch. 32)
  1. apostasy (Judges)
sexual intercourse in pagan religious cults, including sanctuary prostitution (Ezekiel 23, Deuteronomy 23:18-19)
sexual intercourse of any spouse with someone outside of marriage (Leviticus 20:10)
sexual intercourse of unmarried man with someone’s wife (Leviticus 18:20)
  1. incest (Leviticus 18:7-18)
  1. homosexuality (Leviticus 18:7, 14, 22)
  1. sexual relations of human with animal (Leviticus 18:23)
intercourse with many women at the same time-orgy (Leviticus 18:17)
  1. sexual intercourse of woman being under father’s or family’s protection without their consent (Genesis ch 38)
  1. rape (Deuteronomy 22:19)
  1. seduction, i.e. to carry somebody against his/her will to intercourse by alcohol, herbals, etc (Leviticus 22:15, 16, latter part of the story about Sodom and Gomorrah in Genesis 19)
  1. uncleaness-intercourse during menstruation (Leviticus 18:19)
Now let’s turn to the subject of masturbation. Children many times find out about this on their own (as I did). Some Christians claim it is sin. But what do the holy scriptures have to say about this subject?
“And if a man has an emission of semen, he shall bathe his whole body in water, and be unclean until the evening. And every garment and every skin on which the semen comes shall be washed with water, and be unclean until the evening. If a man lies with a woman and has an emission of semen, both of them shall bathe themselves in water and be unclean until the evening.” – Leviticus 15:16-18

Notice that there are TWO emissions referred to here, one from sexual intercourse with a woman and the other committed just by oneself. Nowhere does it say it is evil, just that he is unclean, and no burnt offering is required.

And why is it that Yahuah commanded these things?

“Thus shall ye separate the children of Israel from their uncleanness; that they die not in their uncleanness, when they defile my tabernacle that is among them. This is the law of him that hath an issue, and of him whose seed goeth from him, and is defiled therewith; And of her that is sick of her flowers, and of him that hath an issue, of the man, and of the woman, and of him that lieth with her that is unclean.” Leviticus 15:31-33

It was because Yahuah’s tabernacle.

The next example may be a semen issue during sleep:

“If there be among you any man, that is not clean by reason of uncleanness that chanceth him by night, then shall he go abroad out of the camp, he shall not come within the camp: But it shall be, when evening cometh on, he shall wash himself with water: and when the sun is down, he shall come into the camp again.” – Deuteronomy 23:10,11

And here is another example: “And whoso toucheth any thing that is unclean by the dead, or a man whose seed goeth from him” – Leviticus 22:4

Nowhere in any of these verses does it say that the reason for the emission is sinful. So, what about masturbating using images in your head of other women? If we read what many claim is a commanded by Yahusha about becoming an adulterer if one even looks on a ‘woman’ to lust after her, we find it is probably likely it is a mistranslation of the word ‘woman.’

“Ye have heard that it was said by them of old time Thou shalt not commit adultery. But I say unto you That whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart.  And if thy right eye offend thee pluck it out and cast it from thee for it is profitable for thee that one of thy members should perish and not that thy whole body should be cast into hell. And if thy right hand offend thee cut it off and cast it from thee for it is profitable for thee that one of thy members should perish and not that thy whole body should be cast into hell.” Matthew 5:27-30

The definition of the word woman is: a woman, wife, my lady.

It would ONLY make sense that Yahusha was talking about a ‘married woman,’ since polygyny was sanction by Yahuah. And how then could a married man desire (lust, want) for another bride? Remember that just previously in the very same chapter of Matthew Yahusha stated he did not come to abolish the Law, but to fulfill it. And what about single people desiring (lust means desire) to marry another single woman? That, too, would be evil? Furthermore, the context is all about actual adultery, in which their would be an evil desire to COVET thy neighbor’s wife. The entire point being that we are NOT to desire another man’s wife.

The word adultery means “woman that breaketh wedlock.” A man becomes an adulterer by having sexual relations with a married woman or if he divorces his wife for other than her committing adultery and she then marries another man. He forces her to commit adultery, thus he is guilty of being an adulterer.

Let’s consider what the bible has to say about our thoughts: “…and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ” – 2 Corinthians 10:5

So, if we are not trying to lust after another man’s wife, where do some judge that it is a sin to desire after an unmarried woman? If the scriptures do not address an issue, generally speaking we are to let each individual choose what it right for them.

Although we are to judge what is known and Christians are going to judge the world, Yahusha gave us this warning: “Judge not, and ye shall not be judged: condemn not, and ye shall not be condemned” – Matthew 6:37

And Paul said this: “Therefore judge nothing before the time, until Yahuah come, who both will bring to light the hidden things of darkness, and will make manifest the counsels of the hearts: and then shall every man have praise of Yahuah.” – 1 Corinthians 4:5
  1. Masturbation diminishes vice by eliminating both opportunity and motivation to indulge in certain vicious activities. Therefore he who masturbates could be said to be less likely to commit various vices
  1. Masturbation dissipates lust by a harmless release of sexual tensions, thus removing the driving force that motivates acts of sexual vice
  1. Pent up libido will seek relief through other channels such as through the satiation of other appetites such as gluttony, gambling, and other material vices
Regular use of a muscle or organ strengthens it, preserves ongoing functioning, keeping it at the ready for functioning. A limb or organ in the body that is not used gradually withers away and loses sense or function.
Masturbation primes the sexual organs for use in reproductive sex, while increasing the chances of sexual intercourse resulting in conception by increasing the health of those organs and their issue.
  1. Masturbation exercises the sexual organs and assures that they properly function. It prevents stagnation of fluids and atrophy of tissues. In the male it increases the quality of sperm by stimulating the production of fresh gametes.
  1. Science has shown that regular and frequent ejaculations increases the quality of a male’s sperm by stimulating the production of fresh and healthy gametes, thus men who masturbate regularly are more likely to father a child.
  1. Masturbation is an activity in which all mature humans may engage, thus it can serve as a commonality upon which to build understanding amongst those of differing nationalities, viewpoints, etc.
  1. If one engages in masturbation for the glory of Yahuah, after the masturbation the individual will be in a relaxed, fulfilled, and pleasant mood, therefore more apt to extend charity and good will toward others.
  1. The act of masturbation can give a sense of mastery, self-confidence, and ownership of one’s body, healthy self-esteem and a clear sense of self being necessary for healthy emotional bonds.
  1. Masturbation is the safest form of safe sex, making it impossible to spread any STDs.
By masturbating instead of having intercourse, both married and unmarried couples can avoid an unwanted or unplanned pregnancy. Masturbation is a safest and wisest alternative to unprotected sex.
Masturbation provides an alternative to intercourse before marriage and allows both partners to keep their virginity intact for their wedding night.
  1. If a man or woman is tempted to indulge in adulterous sex, masturbating can be an eternally better alternative to committing a sexual sin.
Since many women do not experience orgasm during sexual intercourse, with some being unable to climax with a partner, masturbation allows the experience of sexual fulfillment.
  1. Medical research shows that having regular orgasms can contribute to overall health, including releasing physical tension and emotional stress, releasing of endorphins and improved circulation. Studies also show that men who have regular ejaculations decrease their risk of prostate cancer.
  1. Masturbation is a way for us to enjoy and celebrate our Yahuah-given sexuality, since sexual pleasure and orgasm are blessings from Yahuah.
But one may ask, ‘what about Onan (Oananism)?’ Well, Onan was commanded by Yahuah to impregnate his brother’s wife, but he defied Yahuah by pulling out before he ejaculated (coitus interruptus) inside of her so she wouldn’t get pregnant. His seed spilled on the ground.

OK, but what about pornography? Well, there are very disturbing images that the Holy Spirit of Yahuah will make us feel we shouldn’t be looking at. You will be looking at prostitutes. If you look to lust after a married woman, then Yahusha’s warning about lusting after married women comes into effect. If you pay money for someone to commit fornication or adultery by buying pornography, how could that be glorifying to Yahuah?

But then one might ask,’If I don’t think it is a sin to lust after prostitutes, then what is wrong with becoming naked in porn myself if I am a single person? Here is your answer: “In like manner also, that women adorn themselves in modest apparel, with shamefacedness and sobriety; not with broided hair, or gold, or pearls, or costly array; But (which becometh women professing godliness) with good works.” – 1 Timothy 2:9,10
What about the married man Job making a covenant with his eyes not to look upon a virgin? Since polygyny was sanctioned by Yahuah, this man CHOSE to make a covenant with Yahuah, thereby if he broke it, he would be wicked.

But what about Proverbs and looking after prostitutes? Proverbs 6: 24-35 is talking not about prostitutes, but rather a MARRIED woman.

But what about 1 John and the lust of the flesh and the lust of the eyes? This is talking about not loving the world and not having inordinate lust. So, if one is spending too much time lusting or masturbating, let Yahuah convict you and allow yourself to follow His lead.

The following are the general principle by which we must act according to the Word of Yahuah:

“Now these things were our examples, to the intent we should not lust after evil things, as they also lusted. Neither be ye idolaters, as were some of them; as it is written, The people sat down to eat and drink, and rose up to play. Neither let us commit fornication, as some of them committed, and fell in one day three and twenty thousand. Neither let us tempt Christ, as some of them also tempted, and were destroyed of serpents. Neither murmur ye, as some of them also murmured, and were destroyed of the destroyer. Now all these things happened unto them for ensamples: and they are written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the world are come. Wherefore let him that thinketh he standeth take heed lest he fall. There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but Yahuah is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.” – 1 Corinthians 10: 6-13

“Conscience, I say, not thine own, but of the other: for why is my liberty judged of another man’s conscience? For if I by grace be a partaker, why am I evil spoken of for that for which I give thanks? Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of Yahuah. Give none offence, neither to the Jews, nor to the Gentiles, nor to the church of Yahuah: Even as I please all men in all things, not seeking mine own profit, but the profit of many, that they may be saved.” – 1 Corinthians 10: 29-33

“Behold, happy is the man whom Yahuah correcteth: therefore despise not thou the chastening of the Almighty” – Job 5:17

“Him that is weak in the faith receive ye, but not to doubtful disputations. For one believeth that he may eat all things: another, who is weak, eateth herbs. Let not him that eateth despise him that eateth not; and let not him which eateth not judge him that eateth: for Yahuah hath received him. Who art thou that judgest another man’s servant? to his own master he standeth or falleth. Yea, he shall be holden up: for Yahuah is able to make him stand.
“One man esteemeth one day above another: another esteemeth every day alike. Let every man be fully persuaded in his own mind. He that regardeth the day, regardeth it unto the Lord; and he that regardeth not the day, to Yahuah he doth not regard it. He that eateth, eateth to Yahuah, for he giveth Yahuah thanks; and he that eateth not, to Yahuah he eateth not, and giveth Yahuah thanks. For none of us liveth to himself, and no man dieth to himself. For whether we live, we live unto Yahuah; and whether we die, we die unto Yahuah: whether we live therefore, or die, we are Yahuah’s. For to this end Christ both died, and rose, and revived, that he might be Lord both of the dead and living.

But why dost thou judge thy brother? or why dost thou set at nought thy brother? for we shall all stand before the judgment seat of Christ. For it is written, As I live, saith the Lord, every knee shall bow to me, and every tongue shall confess to Yahuah. So then every one of us shall give account of himself to Yahuah.

Let us not therefore judge one another any more: but judge this rather, that no man put a stumblingblock or an occasion to fall in his brother’s way. I know, and am persuaded by the Lord Yahusha, that there is nothing unclean of itself: but to him that esteemeth any thing to be unclean, to him it is unclean. But if thy brother be grieved with thy meat, now walkest thou not charitably. Destroy not him with thy meat, for whom Christ died. Let not then your good be evil spoken of: For the kingdom of Yahuah is not meat and drink; but righteousness, and peace, and joy in the Holy Ghost. For he that in these things serveth Christ is acceptable to Yahuah, and approved of men.

“Let us therefore follow after the things which make for peace, and things wherewith one may edify another. For meat destroy not the work of Yahuah. All things indeed are pure; but it is evil for that man who eateth with offence. It is good neither to eat flesh, nor to drink wine, nor any thing whereby thy brother stumbleth, or is offended, or is made weak. Hast thou faith? have it to thyself before Yahuah. Happy is he that condemneth not himself in that thing which he alloweth. And he that doubteth is damned if he eat, because he eateth not of faith: for whatsoever is not of faith is sin.” – Romans 14

The whole point is if you think something not covered in the Word of Yahuah is not sin, it is not sin to you, while it IS sin to the person who BELIEVES it to be sin. And also, let not YOUR freedom be the cause of your brother’s downfall. And don’t forget to PRAY for people!

Remember this: “But fornication and all impurity [Editor's note: state of immorality, sin] or covetousness must not even be named among you, as is fitting among saints…Be sure of this, that no fornicator or impure (Editor’s note: state of immorality, sin) man, or one who is covetous (that is, an idolater), has any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of Yahuah. Let no one deceive you with empty words, for it is because of these things that the wrath of Yahuah comes upon the sons of disobedience…Take no part in the unfruitful works of darkness, but instead expose them. For it is a shame even to speak of the things that they do in secret; but when anything is exposed by the light it becomes visible, for anything that becomes visible is light.” – Ephesian 5: 3-13

And this: “If then you have been raised with Christ, seek the things that are above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of Yahuah. Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth. For you have died, and your life is hid with Christ in Yahuah. When Christ who is our life appears, then you also will appear with him in glory. Mortify therefore your members which are upon the earth; fornication, uncleanness, inordinate affection [Editor's note: strong feeling not guided by Yahuah], evil concupiscence [Editor's note: strong emotions not guided by Yahuah], and covetousness, which is idolatry: For which things’ sake the wrath of Yahuah cometh on the children of disobedience: In the which ye also walked some time, when ye lived in them. – Colossians 3:1-6

And this: “Do not yield your members to sin as instruments of wickedness, but yield yourselves to Yahuah as men who have been brought from death to life, and your members to Yahuah as instruments of righteousness.” Romans 6:13

And this: “Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness [Editor's note: violent spite which rejects restraint and indulges in lawless insolence], Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies, Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of Yahuah. But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law. And they that are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts [Editor's note: inordinate desire].” – Galatians 5:19-24
So what about oral sex? Some say the song of King Solomon refers to this, but you be the judge. “As the apple tree among the trees of the wood, so is my beloved among the sons. I sat down under his shadow with great delight, and his fruit was sweet to my taste.” - Song of Solomon 2:3  ”Awake, O north wind; and come, thou south; blow upon my garden, that the spices thereof may flow out. Let my beloved come into his garden, and eat his pleasant fruits.” – Song of Solomon 16: 4

Even if this erotic book does not really talk about oral sex, it is also not spoken of in the scriptures, so it is up to the person to decide if it is sin to him or not.

So what about anal sex? Here are two examples in scripture that seems to mention it, and definitely they condemn homosexual behavior: “If a man also lie with mankind, as he lieth with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination: they shall surely be put to death; their blood [shall be] upon them.” – Leviticus 20:13

“Thou shalt not lie with mankind, as with womankind: it [is] abomination.” – Leviticus 18:22

And even if these do not really talk about anal sex with a woman, it is not mentioned in scripture, then it is up to the man to decide whether it is sin or not. Women are to obey their husbands as unto Yahuah, but if she is unwilling to do certain sex acts, then the husband might want not want to force the issue until and unless she is ready.

Now before porn there was National Geographic and department store inserts with girls and woman in bras, panties, etc. that males lusted after. Before that there was the mind of man which wondered and lusted after a neighbor or some female they had seen. And what about the man who thinks of other women while they enjoy sex with their wife?

Like I said, if YOU think it is sin, then it IS sin to YOU. But do not pass judgment on others, since you are NOT their judge.

Thanks for listening,
