The Roman Catholic Church is developing a personal ordinariate in Australia

The Roman Catholic Church is developing a personal ordinariate for former Anglicans as outlined in the apostolic constitution “Anglicanorum Coetibus” and could be established in Australia by Easter, says a representative of the country’s [Catholic] bishops.

The bishops are working on a similar timeline as they are in England and Wales though it could take a few months longer.

“Anglicanorum Coetibus,” a new apostolic constitution published last year, established a new canonical structure so that whole groups of Anglicans, including whole communities of Anglican churches, can enter the Catholic Church through the establishment of personal ordinariates. These former Anglicans will keep some of their Anglican traditions and even their married priests.

“The bishops of England and Wales announced earlier this month that an ordinariate would be established there as early as January, and five Anglican bishops have announced their intention to join it when the ordinariate is ready. The ordinariate in England and Wales would be the first one to be established.”

At first the new ordinariate will be very small, say the bishops, but once established it will grow as people learn more about it.

“All that dwell upon the earth shall worship him…” Revelation 13:8.
