The documents state that Gary Cartwright called 911 around noon on Wednesday. He told dispatchers about the body of a 27-year-old woman in a house on the 700 block of Colonial Court in Silver Spring Township. The documents state that he told dispatchers, "It was obvious that she was dead."
The documents go on to state that Cartwright directed police to the body in the basement and said, "You guys can go ahead and take me in. I killed her."
The woman was identified as Nicole Berman. Police said her body was covered with a blanket and there were no signs of a struggle.
According to documents, Cartwight told police, "I strangled her. We had a fight last night at about 5:30 and I panicked."
Cumberland County District Attorney David Freed said Cartwright knew what he was doing.
"You don't strangle somebody to death, or choke somebody, by accident or by happenstance. You have to apply significant force for a significant amount of time in order to cause somebody's death," he said a news conference on Thursday morning.
