>> Pope Benedict XVI is in Madrid celebrating World Youth Day as part of a four day Spanish tour. Many have protested the high price of Pope's visit, which is costing 50 million euros, while Spanish young people can't even find jobs. Fifty million? Listening to a grumpy 84-year-old talk about that wretched MTV and those stinkin' video games is priceless. (the Daily Mail) >> President Obama called for Syrian President Bashar Assad to "step aside" as anti-government uprisings continue to escalate. The administration will freeze all assets of the Syrian government as well. And all it took was for 2,000 people to die. (ABC News, Sydney Morning Herald) >> The Justice Department is investigating credit rating agency Standard & Poor to see if business managers pushing for lower mortgage ratings led to the financial crisis (duh). Moving forward, the rating agency "could be forced to stop making their money off the entities they rate." And the investigation started before S&P downgraded the U.S.'s AAA rating—they swear! (the New York Times) >> Heavily armed Egyptian gunmen crossed into Israel today and killed 7 Israelis. Authorities believe it could be Hamas militants taking advantage of the instability in Egypt. Those are some stealth guys being able to cross the Sinai Peninsula--both Egypt and Israel shoot anything that moves out there. (AP) >> And finally: Former News of the World editor James Desborough became the thirteenth person arrested over the phone hacking scandal this morning.
