North Korea sends $100,000 to Japan quake victims

North Korea's Red Cross Society has sent 100,000 dollars to support victims of the earthquake in northeast Japan. The Korean Central News Agency on Thursday said the North's Red Cross central committee had sent the money to Japan's Red Cross with a message expressing deep sympathy for the victims and their families. The North Korean Red Cross had already sent a telegram of condolence to Japan's Red Cross 3 days after the earthquake. The state central news agency said North Korean leader Kim Jong Il had separately sent 500,000 dollars to Korean residents in Japan affected by the quake. Following the great Hanshin Earthquake of 1995, North Korea sent 200,000 dollars in support, and donated money for victims of the 2004 earthquake in Niigata on the Sea of Japan coast.
