New Oxford couple accused of taking pornographic photos of infant

Michael Strausbaugh, 30 and his wife, Rebecca Strausbaugh, 31, are being held and face a federal trial on the charges.
An Adams County couple is accused of taking pornographic images of an infant and distributing them on the Internet.

A federal grand jury indicted the couple Wednesday on child pornography charges, according to a news release from the U.S. Attorney's office in Harrisburg.

Michael Strausbaugh, 30, and his wife, Rebecca Strausbaugh, 31, of the 1900 block of East Berlin Road in Reading Township, north of New Oxford, eastern Adams County, were charged with production of child pornography.

Michael Strausbaugh was also charged with distribution and possession of child pornography, according to the release.

The indictments stems from the arrest of a Canadian who was allegedly trading images of child pornography with Michael Strausbaugh.

Police allege that the Strausbaughs took pornographic images of the infant - who at the time was younger than 1 - and distributed them on the Internet. The U.S. Department of Justice would not release further details about the case, and court documents provided no additional information.

The Strausbaughs were arrested March 18 and temporarily detained, said Heidi Havens, a U.S. Department of Justice spokeswoman. A detention hearing was held Wednesday before U.S. District County Magistrate Judge J. Andrew Smyser, who ordered the Strausbaughs placed in prison.

The couple is being held in Adams County Prison, according to the prison records department.

Havens said a trial will be scheduled because the Strausbaughs

pleaded not guilty at Wednesday's hearing.

If convicted, Michael Strausbaugh faces a mandatory minimum of 25 years imprisonment. Rebecca Strausbaugh faces a mandatory minimum of 15 years imprisonment.

Michael Strausbaugh's attorney, James J. West, declined to comment Thursday, other than to confirm that his client was in detention.

Rebecca Strausbaugh's attorney, Terrence McGowan, could not be reached for comment Thursday evening.

The case will be prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Daryl F. Bloom.
