York County Food Bank seeking holiday donations - The York Daily Record

The dismal economy and uncertainly of state funding have placed increased demands on the food bank.

York, PA - The York County Food Bank is gearing up for the holidays.

The food bank estimates it will need about 2,000 turkeys -- at a cost of $25,000 -- to meet the needs of the hungry this holiday season. It is also in need of other food items.

Turkeys and other food items can be dropped off through Dec. 23 at the food bank, 254 W. Princess St. in York, between normal operating hours of 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Additionally, the food bank will be open to accept donations on select Saturdays -- Nov. 13 and 20 and Dec. 11 and 18 between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m.

Coupons for free turkeys and grocery store gift cards are also accepted, as well as cash donations, which can be dropped off or mailed to the York County Food Bank, 254 W. Princess St., York, PA 17401.

The food bank is in dire need of donations because of the state of the economy and the fact that the state budget freeze has delayed disbursement of state money.

For more information, contact the food bank at 846-6435, ext. 101.
