Strange Bedfellows PD & priest

Lawyers in abuse case claim Salinas PD is too tight with accused priest to investigate.

Separating Church and State

Lawyers in abuse case claim Salinas PD is too tight with accused priest to investigate.

Attorneys representing the victim of alleged sexual abuse at the hands of a Catholic priest have asked the Salinas Police Department to recuse itself from the case, citing an entrenched relationship between law enforcement and the alleged perpetrator.

“We believe the Salinas PD has an unavoidable conflict in this case,” lawyers John Manly and Vince Finaldi wrote in a Feb. 22 letter to Salinas Police Chief Louis Fetherolf and Deputy Chief Cassie McSorley.

Salinas police would not comment on the letter. “We’ve investigated our own employees, so I don’t know what the conflict of interest would be,” says police spokesman Lalo Villegas.

The priest, Rev. Edward Fitz-Henry, served as a chaplain or quasi-chaplain for Salinas police, and as a San Benito County sheriff’s chaplain for 15 years until he resigned that role last month.

If the investigation fell under jurisdiction of the San Benito sheriff, the department would pass it to another agency. “We would probably not investigate… so there’s no perception of impropriety,” says Sgt. Scott Becker.

Before the Diocese of Monterey suspended Fitz-Henry last month, he had been a priest at Mission San Juan Bautista since 1996, with the exception of a two-year stint at Madonna del Sasso from 2005 to 2007. The alleged abuse took place at Madonna.

The Diocese began investigating in January, an effort led by recently retired Salinas police sergeant Don Cline.

Finaldi says the Diocese’s inquiry is contaminating witnesses and undermining detectives’ ability to conduct a fair criminal investigation. Villegas, whose wedding Fitz-Henry officiated, agrees. “Why was the Diocese approached first?” he says. “In circumstances like these, the police department would be the first one notified.”

TSA: Another Amtrak Train Incident!

Another Amtrak Train Incident! We have entered a Police State

Amplify’d from www.prisonplanet.com

I am just amazed constantly how our Civil Rights have disappeared along with our Constitutional Rights in the U.S.!

It seems more and more information is coming out about riding Amtrak Trains and what happens when you do.  Amtrak allows a complete Police State type events.  In fact I have images that come to mind of what happened during the 1930s and 40s in Europe and the Nazi tactics used.  We are going the same exact way now.

Last week information came out about TSA searching and groping people after they got off a train in Savannah Georgia and the first hand story about it is here.

There is video in the link about it.  The police are denying what questions were asked and how long it took for questioning.

From the article:

A Chicago-bound businessman traveling in an Amtrak sleeping car didn’t expect to wake up in Omaha. That’s where plain clothes Nebraska State Patrol Investigators boarded and knocked on the doors of four first-class passengers.

Greg Travis of Bloomington, Indiana said, “It was a loud knock followed by questions. ‘Where are you going! Who did you visit!’ They shined a flashlight and I was in my pajamas.”

Travis said investigators didn’t tell him why they knocked on his door. In a railroad traveler blog he alleged the questioning took an hour. However Lt. Kracl said that’s not correct. Investigators talked to the four passengers for about seven minutes each he said. Amtrak stopped in Omaha for less than a half hour and left on schedule.

What he posted:

I’ve just spent the last hour being interrogated by the Nebraska State Police who boarded our train, the California Zephyr, at 4AM. I am in a sleeper (Car 0632, room 14) and awoke to a non-uniformed individual banging on my door, again at 4AM.

I was interrogated as to where I had boarded, where I was going, what I was doing, and had my room and my luggage searched as was the experience of all the other sleeping car occupants in my car. When we asked for identification from the officers (who were not uniformed) we were told a) They had jurisdiction and b) they would HAND WRITE individual cards.

My card reads “Richard A. Lutter”, Investigator, Investigative Services Division, Nebraska State Patrol. Badge # 253.

When my fellow sleeping car riders asked why they were on the train, they said “To Search For Contraband” and that was the excuse they used to rummage through our rooms and our luggage. The train’s conductor was also present and for reasons I do not understand did not throw them off the train.

This is not America.

Police: Scranton priest attacked inside monastery

The Associated Press
SCRANTON, Pa.—Police have charged a northeastern Pennsylvania man with breaking into a monastery residence hall and attacking a priest with a knife early on Ash Wednesday.

Scranton police say 25-year-old Ryan Foley attacked the priest at Saint Ann's Basilica while under the influence of "bath salts," legal chemicals not approved for human consumption.

Police said the Rev. Francis Landry told police he was asleep when he woke up to a man standing in his room who attacked him before fleeing. Foley was captured a short time later inside the building.

Scranton Police Chief Dan Duffy says he believes Foley had been binging on the drug for several days.

Landry was treated at a hospital for wounds to his face and hand.

Foley was expected to be arraigned later Wednesday.

York County board discusses having prisoners clean up litter

The prison has recently emphasized acclimating low-risk inmates to the community.
York, PA -
Members of the York County Prison Board are discussing a proposal to have inmates from York County Prison do regular litter pickup around the county.

Board chairman and county commissioner Doug Hoke said the topic came up at the board's meeting Tuesday. It's not a definite plan, but all of the board members -- which include all three county commissioners and prison warden Mary Sabol -- seemed amenable to the idea, Hoke said.

Hoke said the York County Sheriff's Office Criminal Response Unit has previously supervised groups of prisoners doing targeted clean-ups in problem areas, particularly where law enforcement is concerned that the general run-down condition might contribute to crime.

But on Tuesday, board members discussed an ongoing program that would take place all over the county.

"I think it's a good use of resources," Hoke said.

Commissioner Chris Reilly said such a program would include only low-risk prisoners who are cleared for work release.

He said it would fit in with a recent emphasis at the prison on acclimating low-risk prisoners to being part of the community again before their release.

President Commissioner Steve Chronister said the emphasis at first would probably be on York, and it could expand from there.

"A cleaner city, a cleaner county, certainly makes it a better place to live and a better place to work," Chronister said.

Police: Pa. woman neglected elderly husband

The Associated Press
JEANNETTE, Pa.—A western Pennsylvania woman faces endangerment charges for allegedly leaving her elderly husband alone in bed for days at a time while she visited her boyfriend.

Police say 55-year-old Kathleen Latourette would leave her 86-year-old husband, John, alone at their home in Jeanette, Westmoreland County. Investigators say they found soiled diapers scattered throughout his room and dog feces on the floor.

The couple's daughter called police after investigators she found her father naked on the kitchen floor. Police say John Latourette has dementia, prostate cancer and a lumbar fracture.

Kathleen Latourette told the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review she's innocent and routinely leaves the home on Friday mornings and returns Monday. She says sometimes she will "pop in" to check on her husband but otherwise he cares for himself.

And Now it’s Portugal

And Now it’s Portugal; Germany May Get another Opportunity

Amplify’d from www.ktfministry.org

“The European Central Bank intervened to prop up the eurozone bond markets on Monday as political leaders and bankers warned the debt crisis was deepening amid fears Portugal was edging closer to an international bail-out.

“Although European Union officials denied they were talking about a bail-out for Portugal, the ECB had to buy the country’s government bonds to stop the market selling off steeply before important debt auctions in Lisbon…”

Investors are more and more skittish about Portugal’s debt, and the fear that a bailout will be necessary is widespread, causing Portugal’s cost of borrowing to jump.

Josef Ackermann, Deutsche Bank chief executive said that the Eurozone governments need to use the debt crisis as an opportunity for greater economic integration. “The time has come to deepen economic and currency union,” he said.

António Bagão Félix, a respected former finance minister of Portugal said “that it was no longer a question of ‘if’ Portugal would have to get a bailout, but ‘when.’ The cost to the country of high bond yields was increasing every day, he said. ‘The situation is unsustainable.’”

The struggle for the Euro is going to continue to provide Germany with opportunity to strengthen and consolidate its control over the European economy and politics. Deeping integration of the European economy will certainly strengthen Germany. But other EU leaders are reluctant to promote solutions that will increase Germany’s power more than it already is. Hence the process takes time. But Germany bids her time and acts when the opportunity presents itself. Keep your eye on Germany. Don’t forget that without the assistance of the Vatican in overthrowing Eastern European communist governments, Germany would still be divided and unable to grow into power. The Holy Roman Empire is returning.
