Florida Atlantic University: Another Left-Wing Seminary
By: Dennis Prager
Question: What is the difference between Christian seminaries and American universities? Answer: Christian seminaries announce that their purpose is to produce committed Christians. American universities do not admit that their primary purpose is to produce committed leftists. They claim that their purpose is to open students' minds. This month Florida Atlantic University provided yet another example of how universities have become left-wing seminaries. An FAU professor told his students to write "JESUS" (in bold caps) on a piece of paper and then step on it.

Waiting period for laws, not guns: Column
By: Glenn Harlan Reynolds
After New York state hastily passed its post-Newtown gun law, it quickly became obvious we need a waiting period for laws more than for guns. After all, the idea behind waiting periods for guns is that people intent on doing something rash would "cool off" if they had to wait a few days before getting their hands on one. Laws are dangerous, too, and legislators seem prone to the same fits of hysteria as the gun owners those lawmakers want to regulate.

Do Unto Others, But Not Unto Us, Say the Media
By: Barton Hinkle
Miracle of miracles: The New York Times finally has found an industry regulation it doesn’t like. The other day the Gray Lady denounced “Britain’s Press Crackdown,” which it described as an “attempt to rein in (Britain’s) reckless tabloid newspapers” — but one that would “chill free speech and threaten the survival of small publishers and Internet sites.” Such regulations, the paper said, “would do more harm than good” because “an unfettered press is essential to democracy.”

Gay Marriage Hits the Supreme Court
By: Jonathan Rauch
Listening to the Supreme Court's arguments on the big gay marriage case--which will decide if California, or for that matter any other state, can forbid same-sex marriage, as California's Proposition 8 did in 2008--I was struck by the baldly political nature of the conversation. "Baldly political" usually means something bad, such as unprincipled horsetrading. But in this case it means something good. The court just didn't have enough clear law to decide the questions before it.
