MARICOPA, Ariz. -- The Maricopa home with 20,000 lights is by far the brightest holiday house on the block, but it’s actually the neighbor’s home generating all the titillating talk.
Next to the house with the luminous litany of twinkling joy sits a home with simply a single green and red lighted sign:

This is Green’s first holiday season in the Maricopa home. She knew she couldn't compete with her neighbor's overwhelming Christmas display and her response is generating plenty of buzz.
“I told him, ‘Besides, what are we going to put up compared to what you have?”’ Green said, replaying a conversation she had with her neighbor when he told her about his extravagant yearly yard display. “There's no comparison, you can't keep up with ‘the Joneses' on this one.”
“The Joneses,” in this instance, are actually the Cyrs. Eric Cyr started putting up just a few lights lining the roof back in 2010. It grew by thousands of bulbs in the couple years following that.
“As a kid I loved watching Christmas lights and going to see them and that's just inspired me,” Cyr said.
It was actually Cyr, feeling bad for a previous neighbor who didn’t want to put up any decorations, who made the 600-light “ditto” sign that now upstages his own yard’s Christmas creations.
“Oh, they just laugh and think it’s hilarious,” he said, talking about people who pass through the neighborhood to see the display.
“It was really supposed to be a joke at first but now it's really turned into something,” Green said. She started a Facebook page with more than 800 “likes” for the ditto display.
Next Christmas, green and Cyr hope to use the display’s new found popularity to raise some money for charity.
