Ohio Food Stamps Cut/ Will We See Riots Like Greece?
“The government consists of a gang of men exactly like you and me.
They have, taking one with another, no special talent for the business
of government; they have only a talent for getting and holding office.
Their principal device to that end is to search out groups who pant and
pine for something they can’t get and to promise to give it to them.
Nine times out of ten that promise is worth nothing. The tenth time is

broker in pillage, and every election is sort of an advance auction sale
of stolen goods.” H. L. MenckenIt seems the modern messiah of the masses has fallen short on his promise. The Toledo Blade has just reported that Ohio’s food stamp recipients will be getting a $50 a month cut to benifits. After falling for a campaign that promised a robbinhoodesque economic policy of wealth redistribution, Ohio will be asked to get by on a little less. Those who had hope to profit from the false prophet are receiving their due. I do not mean to sound heartless for those that truly can not provide for themselves. However, I do not believe that charity is the role of the government. There are very few things that The Constitution has tasked the government with doing. Charity is certainly not one of them. This is the role of the Church, who, without the bureaucracy of the government, can discern between the truly needy and the lazy.
There are about 869,000 households in Ohio who receive food stamps. This will reduce the drag on the Ohio government spending by about $520 million a year. In Florida, I have never seen anyone with an EBT card (food stamp card) using coupons. Evidently there has not been a need to. And if there is no need to, why do it? After all, they didn’t have to work for that money. Why should they put any effort into saving it. When charity comes from the government, it is easier to forget that “the government” is made up of the people. Someone else had to do without the money they worked for in order for you to get something you did not work for.When charity is dispensed from the Church, the recipient sees a human face that they can connect with. They more readily understand that it required a sacrifice on someone else’s part.
On a positive note, couponing is a quick way for Ohio food stamp recipients to increase their buying power. Our household receives no government assistance but our budget requires Mrs. Recon to vigilantly clip coupons to make ends meet. She keeps the two of us very well feed on $200 a month.
That also includes the cost of storing emergency food. She does that by matching buy one get one deals with manufacturer and store coupons. She has listed several resources in our Coupon Corner page.
Could these austerity measures blow up like they have in Greece?
At some point, all government entitlements will have to be cut. The money to sustain them simply is not there. It will be interesting to see how this plays out in Ohio. Similar austerity measures certainly have not went well in Greece. I fear we have fostered a culture that feels very entitled to what they have not earned. To deny them of it may prove to be quite disastrous. This could easily spark civil unrest among the entitled as it has in Greece and Spain. The major difference between us and Europe is that we are a much more inherently violent culture. Being prepared is getting to be a better idea by the day. At a minimum, have a one month supply of food and a means of defending your life and property.

A new report by the intelligence community projects that the United
States will no longer be the world's only superpower by 2030.
Obama Declares U.S. out as sole superpower by 2030
“Global Trends 2030: Alternative Worlds" —
prepared by the office of the National Intelligence Council of the
Office of the Director of National Intelligence — projects that the
"unipolar" world that emerged after the fall of the Soviet Union will
not continue.
"In terms of the indices of overall power – GDP, population size, military spending and technological investment – Asia will surpass North America and Europe combined," the report concludes.
"With
the rapid rise of other countries, the 'unipolar moment' is over and no
country – whether the U.S., China, or any other country – will be a
hegemonic power," the report argues.
"The
United States’ relative economic decline vis-a-vis the rising states is
inevitable and already occurring,but its future role in the
international system is much harder to assess," it argues.
"Global
Trends" projects that the United States will retain a unique role in
the international system — in part because of its history and past
leadership.
"The
U.S. most likely will remain 'first among equals' among the other great
powers, due to the legacy of its leadership role in the world and the
dominant role it has played in international politics across the board
in both hard and soft power," it argues.
And the intelligence community does believe the United States will be supplanted as the world's only superpower by another country.
"The
replacement of the United States by another global power and erection
of a new international order seems the least likely outcome in this time
period," the report projects.
The
report argues that rising powers like China, India and Brazil are not
unified by any common ideology and are more focused on their regional
role. And the report warns against the consequences of a U.S. withdrawal
from the world's stage.

Mohamed Morsi gives Egypt's army police powers ahead of referendum
President
Mohamed Morsi has ordered Egypt's army to take on police powers –
including the right to arrest civilians – in the run-up to a divisive
constitutional referendum that has triggered mass street protests.

The
decree, published in the government gazette, takes effect on the eve of
mass rival protests on the referendum and follows street clashes that
have left seven people dead and hundreds injured.
It
orders the military to fully co-operate with police "to preserve
security and protect vital state institutions for a temporary period, up
to the announcement of the results from the referendum," according to a
copy of the decree obtained by AFP.
The
military, which ruled Egypt between the ouster of former president
Hosni Mubarak in February 2011 and the election of Morsi in June this
year, has sought to remain neutral in the political crisis.
It has warned it "will not allow" the situation to deteriorate, and urged both sides to dialogue.
Army
tanks and troops have since Thursday deployed around Morsi's
presidential palace but they have not confronted thousands of protesters
who have gathered there every night.
The
opposition, made up of secular, liberal, left wing and Christian
groups, has said it will escalate its protests to scupper the
referendum.
It
views the draft constitution, largely drafted by Morsi's Islamist
allies, as undermining human rights, the rights of women, religious
minorities, and curtailing the independence of the judiciary.
Morsi,
though, has defiantly pushed on with the new charter, seeing it as
necessary to secure democratic reform in the wake of Mubarak's 30-year
autocratic rule.
Late
Sunday, the main opposition group, the National Salvation Front, called
for huge protests in Cairo to reject the December 15 referendum.
It
dismissed a key concession Morsi made rescinding another decree giving
himself near-absolute powers as too late, saying he had already used it
to railroad through the draft constitution.
"We do not recognise the draft constitution because it does not represent the Egyptian people," National Salvation Front spokesman Sameh Ashour told a news conference.
Going
ahead with the referendum "in this explosive situation with the threat
of the Brothers' militias amounts to the regime abandoning its
responsibilities," he said. In recent days, the protesters have hardened
their slogans, going beyond criticism of the decree and the referendum
to demand Morsi's ouster.
The
Muslim Brotherhood, from which Morsi hails, shot back that it and
allied Islamist movements would counter with their own big rallies in
the capital in support of the referendum.
"We are calling for a demonstration Tuesday, under the slogan 'Yes to legitimacy'," the Brotherhood's spokesman, Mahmud Ghozlan, told AFP.
Morsi's camp argues it is up to the people to accept or reject the draft constitution.
If
the charter is rejected, Morsi has promised to have a new one drawn up
by 100 officials chosen directly by the public rather than appointed by
the Islamist-dominated parliament. But analysts said still-strong public
support for Morsi, and the Brotherhood's proven ability to mobilise the
grassroots level, would likely help the draft constitution be adopted.
"The
Muslim Brotherhood believes that it has majority support so it can win
the constitutional referendum," said Eric Trager, analyst at the
Washington Institute for Near East Policy.

Obama sends Muslim Brotherhood rulers more tanks and fighter jets
More tanks for Egypt this year than the entire Marine Corps has…For the new Egyptian Muslim Brotherhood dominated government, the Obama Administration is ensuring another $1.3 billion annual shipment of state-of-the-art weaponry.
As reported by The Washington Times, despite Egypt’s new president Mohammed Morsi being a member of the terrorist related Muslim Brotherhood, the money and arms pipeline from Washington to Cairo will remain open and flowing.
Morsi has recently granted himself virtual dictatorial power in his native land.
To keep Morsi’s actions in perspective, many political pundits have described his power grab as if Barack Obama fired every Republican in the U.S. Congress and dissolved the Supreme Court.

This year alone, Obama will be sending the Egyptians 200 M1A1 Main Battle Tanks.
Egypt already maintains the world’s 7th largest tank force, numbering in at 4,000.
The active-duty Marine Corps has less than 150 M1A1 Abrams tanks in its inventory at any given time.
Under the new Obama budget, the tank force for The Corps, along with the rest of the U.S. Armed forces are facing a $1,000,000,000,000 cut over the next decade.

Black Friday For Housing Applications: COPS Called When Crowd Signing Up For Housing List Gets ‘Out Of Control’
COLUMBUS, Ohio - Columbus Police sprayed Mace on several people in a crowd that had gathered to sign up for a list to get subsidized housing at a northwest Columbus apartment complex.
Police said the crowd started to gather Friday night for the Saturday morning event at The Heritage apartment complex on Gatewood Road near Sunbury Road in northeast Columbus.
Authorities said that its highest number, the crowd reached 2,000 people.
Residents in the area called police overnight and complained about the noise and number of cars in the neighborhood.
According to police, a melee broke out when the manager of the complex started to set up for the event just before 7 a.m. Saturday morning.
Several individuals were sprayed with Mace by police and treated at the scene by emergency crews.
Police did not report making any arrests.
