Jesus-Themed Easter Eggs Fill Supermarket Shelves in UK

By Eryn Sun|Christian Post Correspondent

For the first time in the U.K., the real reason for the Easter season will be unveiled in local supermarkets across the country this year – faithfully packaged.

Launched by the Church of England, The Real Easter Egg, “a milk chocolate egg to celebrate the real meaning of Easter,” is said to be the first and only Fairtrade egg to mention Jesus on the box.

Telling consumers that Easter is not “all about cute bunnies, fluffy chicks, and eating too much chocolate,” the packaging reveals the true message that “Jesus died on the cross on Good Friday, then rose again three days later … on Easter Sunday.”

“Many believe that chocolate eggs represent the boulder that sealed [Jesus’] tomb. And with eggs being widely thought of as a symbol of hope and new life, the custom grew where people exchanged gifts of chocolate eggs at Easter.”

Each sale made will benefit two charities, Baby Lifeline and Traidcraft Exchange, with proceeds going to purchase everything from medical equipment for new mothers in the U.K. to chickens for small-scale farmers in Africa and keeping true to the themes of hope and new life.

Hundreds of families in the U.K. will benefit as well as people are employed to mold the eggs, deal with orders and deliver to churches, schools and stores.

Customers can “make a big chunk of difference,” like the egg advertises.

The Right Rev. Nigel McCulloch, the Bishop of Manchester, launched the project last year and developed the egg through the Meaningful Chocolate Company, but not without initial opposition.

Patenting authorities questioned the meaning of Easter in relation to the egg and supermarkets were unsure of how a charity-faith egg would fare in their Easter aisles, despite the 80 million Easter eggs sold in the U.K. each year.

To prove the demand for The Real Easter Egg, a campaign was launched in September 2010, by the Church of England, asking churches, church schools, and individuals to place a direct mail order for The Real Easter Egg from October 2010 onwards.

An overwhelming number of orders – over 70,000 – were received, exhausting their supply of direct mail order eggs.

The campaign received international attention and was also backed by the Archbishop of York and other prominent church leaders.

Ten weeks after the launch, the egg became the U.K.’s top selling mail order egg and was stocked by leading retailers.

Morrison’s, Waitrose, Co-op and Boots agreed to carry a limited supply of the sweets in their stores, while three other major chains, like Tesco, Sainsbury’s and Asda, remained unconvinced. (The eggs will also be available in a number of independent shops and cathedrals.)

Lawyers were also able to argue successfully that a link could in fact be made between Christianity, Easter and chocolate eggs, securing a patent to move the campaign forth.

David Marshall, spokesman for the bishop and part of The Real Easter Egg team, stated, “We are delighted that our customers have made The Real Easter Egg such a success. I think we have proven that people are not afraid to buy The Real Easter Egg and we hope we have changed the face of Easter forever.”

The Rev. McCulloch remarked, “I believe there will be widespread support for the product from the faith community with many others likely to be interested.”

“It is great news that for the first time people will have the chance of buying an Easter egg from a shop that explains the significance of the festival on the box.”

The Real Easter Egg is thus boldly proclaiming the true meaning of Easter to every consumer in the midst of a growing antagonism to Christianity in the U.K., with Christians facing oppression under the new laws of equality and discrimination because of their open faith.

“Religious liberty,” Dr. Massimo Introvigne, a religious expert, deduced in an interview with Dr. Gudrun Kugler, “includes freedom to worship inside a church but also the freedom to preach outside it.”

And like the package preaches, “Just think … when you give someone The Real Easter Egg you’re not just giving them a delicious chocolate treat, you’re giving them something much more meaningful.”

The Real Easter Egg, deemed a “tasty preaching tool” by THE DRUM, directs those who are curious about the true meaning of Easter to websites that explain Christianity, Easter, and Jesus’ death and resurrection more thoroughly.

“The real test of a religion is whether in an age of aggressive secularism it has the confidence to go out and make its case by persuasion,” expressed Former British prime minister Tony Blair in a former Telegraph article.

The Church of England and companies like the Meaningful Chocolate Company are “making their case” and demonstrating in the U.K. that Christianity is still relevant and fundamental in the new post-modern age.

The Real Easter Egg is spurring movement to bring the good news from the private pulpit to the public.

The 125g high quality Fairtrade milk chocolate egg is made with natural cocoa butter and contains no vegetable fat substitutes.

With demand expected to outstrip supply, Google Maps is providing the “Virtual Real Easter Egg hunter,” allowing people to hunt for an independent shop or church in their area where they can purchase the egg.

New Zealand to use beetles for dung

AUCKLAND, New Zealand, Feb. 18 (UPI) -- New Zealand says it will try a novel solution for dealing with massive amounts of livestock dung generated in the country -- imported dung beetles.

Adult dung beetles lay their eggs in manure, which the insects feed on after hatching and break down into sawdust, and a mound of dung inhabited by beetles can disappear in 48 hours, compared with a month for a mound that is left out in a field, NewScientist.com reported Friday.

The difference may seem unimportant, but not in a country with a cattle population as large as New Zealand, scientists say.

As the manure mounds rot, they release greenhouse gases, accounting for around 14 percent of New Zealand's emissions of nitrous oxide, a problem the beetles could solve, researchers say.

Dung beetles that can handle cattle dung are not native to New Zealand, so they will have to be imported, as Australia did in the 1960s when it introduced some from Europe and Africa.

"They've been hugely successful," Shaun Forgie of Landcare Research in Auckland, New Zealand, said.

Many blackbirds found dead in Ukraine

SEVASTOPOL, Ukraine, Feb. 19 (UPI) -- Mass deaths of blackbirds in the Crimea are puzzling Ukrainian scientists.

Dozens of the migratory birds have been found dead on the Kamyshovskoye highway in Sevastopol, along Kazachya Bay and in other coastal areas, ITAR-Tass reported Saturday.

Ornithologist Alexander Grinchenko of the Ukrainian Society for the Protection of Birds said it is not yet known if the blackbirds died from infection or poisoned food. They probably flew from North Africa, where no bird epidemics are reported.

The first examinations by the Sevastopol state veterinary center suggest frost as a cause. A recent storm brought heavy snow and frigid weather to the Crimea.

Tissues from the dead birds have been sent to a veterinary clinic in Simferopol, and a diagnosis is expected within a week.

The mass bird death is the first reported in Ukraine, and it is not known if there is any connection to recent incidents in the United States and Europe.

Libya, Nemesis, And Internet Shutdown

Et erunt signa in sole et luna et stellis, et super terram pressura gentium prae confusione sonitus maris et fluctuum. (Luke 21:25)

The Huffington Post reports that Libya appears to have shut down its Internet due to widespread protests, less than a month after Egypt did the same.

Human rights watch said Libyan government forces killed at least 84 people in three days.

It seems the 41-year rule of Gaddafi in Libya soon could be over.

Unfortunately, the people there is not used to democracy, so the result of the revolts in Libya as well as in Egypt could very well prepare the way for a worse alternative.

From a Biblical point of view all this can be explained.

In the first chapter of Genesis our double star system is explained.

There is a hole in our sun, about four times the size of Jupiter, which eventually could be related to the creation of Nemesis, our sun's dark companion.

Every Bible verse has seven different meanings, all of which are correct, and therefore some people see the moon, and not Nemesis, as "the lesser light", and they are also correct.

We are anyway greatly influenced by celestial bodies, see Isaiah 47:13.

Politically things will eventually calm down, but we live in a very challenging decade.

From Ezekiel 38:5 we know that Libya, together with Persia and Pakistan (the region around Hindu Kush, maybe India and Afghanistan will join them), will attack Israel.

The next verse talks about Germany and Turkey in alliance with these nations.

Unfortunately it seems like Russia will have a leading role in that scenario.

Let us pray for the peace of the Middle East and in the world.

"Persae, Chus et Phut cum eis, omnes scutati et galeati", Ezekiel 38:5.

New York county closes crime lab over drug test errors

By FRANK ELTMAN Associated Press
In this Dec. 2010 photo released by the Nassau County Police Department via Newsday, an interior view of the Nassau County crime laboratory is shown. Nassau County officials closed the facility on Friday, Feb. 18, 2011, amid revelations that inaccurate measurements involving drug cases were known by police officials several months before a national accrediting agency placed it on probation. ((AP Photo/Nassau County Police Department via Newsday) )
MINEOLA, N.Y.—New York county officials shut down their crime lab Friday because, they said, police officials knew that examiners were producing inaccurate measurements in drug cases even before a national accrediting agency placed the lab on probation.

Nearly 9,000 drug cases dating to late 2007 are currently being reviewed for signs of errors after a spot check last week of nine cases involving ketamine or ecstasy revealed that six of them were inaccurately analyzed.

Officials immediately closed the drug section. On Friday, Nassau County District Attorney Kathleen Rice and County Executive Edward Mangano said new revelations that police supervisors were aware of problems with ecstasy testing as far back as September prompted the closure of the entire lab.

Det. Michael Bitsko, a police department spokesman, said county police are conducting an internal investigation "of the forensic evidence bureau, including the potential of supervisory awareness related to the testing inaccuracies."

Besides analyzing drugs, the lab handles ballistics, blood alcohol and other police evidence, ranging from homicide investigations to larcenies. Rice said evidence in all current cases will be sent to an independent lab for analysis, but contended there has been no finding of wrongdoing or that evidence outside the drug section had been compromised.

She said the decision was being made "out of an abundance of caution."

Defense attorneys have filed motions in more than a dozen cases questioning whether their clients received fair treatment, and Rice conceded that it is possible that some convictions could be overturned.

"Possibly," Rice said earlier this week. "We don't know."

Problems first surfaced in December when a national accrediting group placed the lab on probation—the only lab in the country facing that sanction. The American Society of Crime Laboratory Directors/Laboratory Accreditation Board cited 15 failures of the lab to comply with nationally recognized standards, including improper maintenance of equipment and instruments, failure to properly mark evidence, failure to properly store evidence, failure to secure the lab and inadequate record-keeping.

After that, lab supervision was transferred from the police department to the county medical examiner's office, which began investigating where the problems lie.

County officials, already under the thumb of a state fiscal watchdog because of a looming $176 million deficit, could not immediately estimate how much outsourcing lab work would cost. Samples from new arrests are now being sent to an independent lab, which also will conduct a spot review of almost 9,000 drug arrests in the county since 2007.

The current situation, Rice said, makes it "impossible for our prosecutors to offer narcotics evidence to the court with the fairness and integrity that I believe are required and that the community deserves."

She said every one of approximately 2,700 felony drug cases will be submitted for retesting to ensure the quantity and quality of the illicit drugs used in prosecutions were accurate.

The independent lab, Willow Grove, Pa.-based NMS Labs, also will review 10 percent of all 9,000 felony and misdemeanor cases analyzed by Nassau lab technicians since 2007, also checking for accuracy. Nassau County authorities could not immediately estimate what the outside lab work will cost, nor how long it might take, and a spokeswoman at NMS Labs said the privately held company does not comment on contractual agreements.

The review will go back to November 2007, county officials said, because that was the last time the national accrediting group gave the facility a passing grade.

Marc Gann, president of the Nassau County Bar Association, attended the news conference by Rice and Mangano and approved of their decision.

"I think you look at the faces of the county executive and the district attorney when they make these announcements and that tells you that it is a complete and total nightmare for them," he said. "They recognize that the public has no faith in the system right now."

Dr. Pasquale Buffalino, who was named the lab's interim director in December, said the facility had been severely understaffed, with only three examiners to analyze an average of 6,000-7,000 cases annually. That includes not only drug cases, but blood-alcohol analysis for drunken driving arrests and evidence analysis of other crime scenes.

He said normal staffing for a lab the size of Nassau's would require seven to 10 examiners and that he was already getting ready to hire more examiners.

Many of the challenged court cases are not expected to result in full exoneration, but some defendants' convictions could be reduced from felonies to misdemeanors if the amount of drugs they were possessing turns out to be less than what prosecutors contended in court, attorneys said.

Defense attorney Brian Griffin said his office has been getting many calls from clients wanting to know where they stand.

"I have a client who agreed to take a plea in a cocaine case," Griffin said. "He lost his job because of the arrest and conviction. It changed his life, obviously not in a positive way. Now to hear there are deep-rooted problems that predate and postdate my client's testing? It's a great concern."

Griffin questions whether his client indeed had cocaine in his possession and whether it was accurately analyzed. He said the fact his client believed he had cocaine is beside the point; authorities have to certify that any substance used in a prosecution is indeed an illicit drug.

"That's what we call burden shifting," he said. "The fundamental rule in the Constitution is that the government has the burden of proving its case. It's not on the charged citizen to disprove anything."

William Kephart, president of the county's Criminal Courts Bar Association, had lobbied for the lab's complete closure until all questions are answered. He said Friday that officials "made the right decision, but it's a sad day for Nassau County."

Attorney Bruce Barket, a former Nassau County prosecutor, noted a 2009 report to Congress found crime abs across the country were under fire. A 255-page report from the National Academy of Sciences urged the creation of national standards of training, certification and expertise for forensic criminal work.

"The difficulties or the issues that were raised in the Nassau case are typical of problems that exist all across the country with police," Barket said.

Revealed: Air Force Ordered Software to Manage Army of Fake Virtual People

Editors Note From The Intel Hub’s Alex Thomas:

It is clear that many of these “fake” people are operating within the truth movement. The infighting that takes place on forums and Youtube can be directly attributed to the fact that certain elements of our government and military are employing people to pose as patriots in order to create havoc within the so called truth movement.

This is exactly what Cass Sunstein has openly called for.

This should be a wake up call to the thousands of awake people who get sucked into infighting on a daily basis. The ONLY way we will ever preserve our freedoms is if we focus on ISSUES and not individuals or he said she said conjecture.

Raw Story

By Stephen C. Webster

February 19th, 2011

These days, with Facebook and Twitter and social media galore, it can be increasingly hard to tell who your “friends” are.

But after this, Internet users would be well advised to ask another question entirely: Are my “friends” even real people?

In the continuing saga of data security firm HBGary, a new caveat has come to light: not only did they plot to help destroy secrets outlet WikiLeaks and discredit progressive bloggers, they also crafted detailed proposals for software that manages online “personas,” allowing a single human to assume the identities of as many fake people as they’d like.

The revelation was among those contained in the company’s emails, which were dumped onto bittorrent networks after hackers with cyber protest group “Anonymous” broke into their systems.

Today’s topics are the State Automated Child Welfare Informations Systems (SACWIS), the Child Abuse Central Index (CACI) and what they mean to us, as citizens of this great country.

The CACI is merely a registry that registers victims and those accused of committing child abuse. It is a registry that follows people their entire lives with only one way to get off of it: to write to the government and specifically ask them to remove you from the list and share good cause to be removed from it.

SACWIS, however, is a more in-depth registry that keeps track of any and all contact with Social Services. This includes unfounded Child Protection Services reports, any form of welfare and a complete history of a person if they were a foster child. If they had an attitude with a social worker at the age of five years old, it goes into the SACWIS file of that person.

Both are interlinked, but SACWIS is more in depth and there is no erasing anything placed on a SACWIS file, even when it’s proven by Social Services to be false.

The eventual goal of SACWIS is to have it interlinked from state to state, across the United States of America and to eventually pass a law making it standard to run everyone’s name through the system prior to releasing their newborn child from the hospital to them to decide whether or not they should be permitted to have custody of their child.

Yes: soon, people will need to pass this “background check” in order to take their own newborn child home from the hospital.

As it stands, only a few states are interlinked and the ones who do check the system only check when there is a reasonable suspicion that something is wrong; however, the goal is to eventually run everyone who has a child through this system before any hospital releases their child to them.

The subjectivity of personal opinion regarding what defines a poor environment to release an infant to concerns family advocates across the United States of America. This definition lays in the ideals of individual county social workers.

With so many being pressured to bolster adoption ratios for judges and higher-ups in the system who sit on the boards of directors to fost-adopt agencies, who knows what America is headed for?

The TV and your computer monitor can be used to manipulate your nervous system. Here is the proof. Read it and weep:

Nervous system manipulation by electromagnetic fields from monitors US Patent #6,506,148

“SUMMARY: Computer monitors and TV monitors can be made to emit weak low-frequency electromagnetic fields merely by pulsing the intensity of displayed images. Experiments have shown that the 1/2 Hz sensory resonance can be excited in this manner in a subject near the monitor. The 2.4 Hz sensory resonance can also be excited in this fashion. Hence, a TV monitor or computer monitor can be used to manipulate the nervous system of nearby people.”

“It is thus apparent that the human nervous system can be manipulated by screen emissions from subliminal TV image pulses.” LINK

Bearing the sacred name of Jesus (Llevando el sagrado nombre de Jesús)

Throughout Christianity Protestantism was menaced by formidable foes. After the first triumphs of the Reformation, Rome summoned new forces, hoping to end it. It was then born Jesuit order, which was to be the most cruel, the least scrupulous and most formidable of all champions papacy. Free from all earthly ties and human interest, insensitive to the voice of natural affection, deaf to the arguments of reason and the voice of conscience, no law recognizing the members, no more restraint than his order, and had no concern that extend its power. The Gospel of Christ had enabled its adherents to face the dangers and endure suffering, undismayed by cold, hunger, work, poverty, and sustain with courage the banner of truth in front of the rack, the dungeon and the stake. To combat these forces, Jesuitism inspired his followers such fanaticism that enabled them to carry similar risks and oppose the power of truth all the weapons of deception. For them no crime was too great, no lie too vile, no disguise too difficult to bear. Bound by vows of perpetual poverty and humility, studied the art of appropriating the wealth and power to consecrate the destruction of Protestantism and the restoration of papal supremacy.

To be known as members of the order, were presented with an air of sanctity, visiting prisons, ministering to the sick and the poor, professing to have renounced the world and bearing the sacred name of Jesus, the One who walked doing good. But under this feigned humility, often concealed criminal and deadly purposes. It was a fundamental principle of order, that the end justifies the means. According to this principle, lying, theft, perjury and murder, were not only forgivable, but worthy to be recommended, provided that serve the interests of the church. Under various disguises the Jesuits in the offices of state, rising to the counselors of kings, and shaping the policy of nations. They became servants to become spies for their masters. Established schools for the children of princes and nobles, and schools for the people and the children of Protestant parents were led to see the Roman rites. All the outward pomp displayed in the worship of the Church of Rome was applied to confuse the mind and obfuscate and deceive the imagination, for children to betray that liberty for which their parents had worked and bled. The Jesuits rapidly spread throughout Europe and wherever they went, were able to revive the papacy.

To give them more power, a bull was issued re-establishing the Inquisition. But the general hatred he inspired, even in Catholic countries, the terrible tribunal was revived by the rulers obedient to the pope, and many committed atrocities too terrible to light day, again perpetrated in secret and dark dungeons. In many countries, thousands and thousands of representatives of the cream of the nation, the purest and noblest, the most intelligent and cultured, the most pious and devoted pastors, the more patriotic and industrious citizens, the brightest writers, artists most talented and most skilled artisans, were killed or forced to flee to other lands.

These were the means of which he made Rome to extinguish the light of the Reformation, to deprive of the Bible to men, and restored the ignorance and superstition of the Middle Ages. However, due to the blessing of God and the efforts of those noble men who had raised him to succeed Luther, Protestantism was not vanquished. This was not to please or arms of princes

pes. pes. Smaller countries, the nations most humble and insignificant, were his strongholds. The small Geneva, the surrounding powerful enemies were plotting his destruction; Netherlands sandbanks in the North Sea, which fought against the tyranny of Spain, the largest and wealthiest of the kingdoms of the time, the glacial sterile, Sweden, those were the victories won for the Reformation.

This White House photo shows the National Christmas Tree lighting in 2006.

Saturday's high winds knocked down the National Christmas Tree, which had stood near the White House since it came from York County in 1978, The (Washington) Post reported.

"At about 10:55 a.m. -- with sustained winds of 25 miles per hour and 50 miles per hour sustained gusts that were highly unusual for Washington, D.C. -- the National Christmas Tree was toppled," National Park Service spokesman Bill Line told The Post. "No one was hurt."

The Colorado blue spruce that was planted on the Ellipse came from William E. and Helen Myers' home in Shiloh, according to "Never to be Forgotten" by James McClure. The tree, which had been planted in the family's front yard as a Mother's Day gift 15 years earlier, stood 30 feet tall when it was sold to the Park Service.

When it fell Saturday, the spruce stood nearly 42 feet tall. There would be no saving it -- it was scheduled to be mulched, The Post reported.

"I would say we're sad, but we knew this would happen," Line told The Post, noting that the previous two National Christmas Trees were also felled by winds.

When interviewed in the early 1990s, Myers said he delighted in the annual display of lights on his former tree.

". . . today I feel good when I see the tree lit for Christmas," Myers told the York Daily Record. "So many more people can see the tree now than they ever could on our front yard."

Police: Officers fatally shot Spring Grove man after he pointed a gun at them

Southwestern Regional Police officers fatally shot a Spring Grove man early Saturday morning after he pointed a revolver at them, according to state police.

Two officers responded to a residence on Campus Avenue in Spring Grove at 2 a.m. Saturday following a 911 call. The call had led authorities to believe a man at the residence was suicidal, said Trooper Tom Pinkerton, a state police spokesman.

The man, Terry Lee Alfone, 42, of Spring Grove, had told a relative that he wanted to commit suicide, Pinkerton said. The relative then contacted authorities.

Alfone "appeared to be in a depressed state," Pinkerton said.

Officers found two family members outside the Campus Avenue home and tried to contact Alfone by yelling, telephoning and knocking, but he did not answer. The officers then entered the home to check on the man's well-being and yelled their identities, according to a news release.

Upon entering a back bedroom, officers found Alfone in bed with covers pulled up to his neck, Pinkerton said. They contacted him verbally, at which point he threw back the covers, sat up and pointed a .44-caliber Magnum revolver at the two officers. Based on that response, the officers fired several shots at Alfone, striking him in the torso and head areas, Pinkerton said.

York County Deputy Coroner Steve Cosey pronounced Alfone dead at 3:30 a.m.

The officers had responded to the residence to help Alfone, but "unfortunately, he didn't allow police to help him," Pinkerton said. Officers later found that Alfone's gun had been loaded.

Because officers discharged their firearms, state police are investigating the shooting, said Southwestern Regional Police Chief Gregory Bean. Per standard procedure, the officers involved have been placed on administrative leave until the investigation is complete and a determination is forwarded to the district attorney's office.

"The officers are given a break to wait for that determination and certainly to get their thoughts together again after being involved in a really traumatic incident," Bean said.

"It's a tragic event, and our heart goes out to those that have been negatively touched by the incident," he said.

An autopsy has been tentatively set for 10 a.m. Feb. 21 at Lehigh Valley Hospital.

In July 2010, officers with the Madison Police Department received a complaint from a woman who indicated that Ketring had asked her to find him an 8-year-old girl for sex. As part of the investigation, officers executed a search warrant on July 26, 2010 at Ketring's home in Verona, Wisconsin. Officers seized firearms, a stun gun, marijuana, sexually explicit photographs of adult women, and computer equipment containing thousands of images children. These included images and movies of children engaged in sexually explicit activity, as well as videos of children being violently sexually assaulted. Officer's also found binoculars on a window ledge overlooking a grade school, as well as a magnet on Ketring's refrigerator that read "Unregistered Sex Offender."

In sentencing Ketring, Judge Conley noted that Ketring was frighteningly addicted to child pornography and had immersed himself in a pattern of sexually deviant behavior that appeared to be moving from Ketring's home and the Internet, to the outside world where Ketring seemed to be seeking out real children. Ketring has pending state charges related to the allegations that he attempted to obtain an 8-year-old girl for sexual activity.

The charges against Ketring were the result of an investigation conducted by the Madison Police Department and the Federal Bureau of Investigation. The prosecution of the case has been handled by Assistant U.S. Attorney Laura Przybylinski Finn.

Allegheny County Jail Guard Charged with Civil Rights Violation

PITTSBURGH—Arii Metz, of  Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, has been indicted by a federal grand jury in Pittsburgh on a charge of deprivation of civil rights, United States Attorney David J. Hickton announced today.

The one-count indictment was returned on Feb. 17, 2011, and unsealed today. Metz, 32, of Pittsburgh, turned himself in to the FBI this morning and made an initial appearance in federal court in Pittsburgh.

According to the indictment presented to the court, Metz, while acting as a correctional officer with the Allegheny County Jail, used excessive force in the assault of an inmate by striking him in the head and thereby violated his civil rights. The alleged assault on Oct. 13, 2010, resulted in bodily injury to the inmate.

The law provides for a maximum total sentence of 10 years in prison, a fine of $250,000, or both. Under federal sentencing guidelines, the actual sentence imposed would be based upon the seriousness of the offense and the prior criminal history, if any, of the defendant.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Amy L. Johnston is prosecuting this case on behalf of the government, in conjunction with the Department of Justice Civil Rights Division. The FBI conducted the investigation leading to the indictment in this case.

An indictment or information is an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.

Milan Lee Goudreaux Sentenced in U.S. District Court

The United States Attorney's Office announced that during a federal court session in Billings on February 18, 2011, before Chief U.S. District Judge Richard F. Cebull, MILAN LEE GOUDREAUX, a 22-year-old resident of Birney, appeared for sentencing. GOUDREAUX was sentenced to a term of:

  • Prison: 57 months
  • Special Assessment: $200

  • Restitution: to be determined
  • Supervised Release: 10 years

GOUDREAUX was sentenced in connection with his guilty plea to abusive sexual contact.

In an offer of proof filed by Assistant U.S. Attorney Lori Harper Suek, the government stated it would have proved at trial the following:

In late September 2009, the victim, who was 6 years old at the time, disclosed to her grandmother and mother that her uncle, GOUDREAUX, had touched her vaginal area. Both her mother and grandmother saw redness and took the victim to the IHS clinic for an examination. The victim was examined on September 24, 2009. During that examination, she disclosed that GOUDREAUX had touched her vaginal area more than one time. As a result of the disclosure, the victim was interviewed by a psychologist, and she repeated the disclosure of sexual abuse by GOUDREAUX.

In late September, the victim had also disclosed to school personnel that GOUDREAUX was touching her. She repeated these disclosures in early October. On October 9, 2009, because of a disclosure made to school personnel, BIA Social Services took the victim to the IHS clinic for a second examination, and she again told the doctor that GOUDREAUX was touching her vaginal area.

On October 9, 2009, GOUDREAUX was interviewed. After initial denials, he admitted that on three occasions, two occurring on the reservation, he touched the victim on her vagina skin to skin.

Because there is no parole in the federal system, the "truth in sentencing" guidelines mandate that GOUDREAUX will likely serve all of the time imposed by the court. In the federal system, GOUDREAUX does have the opportunity to earn a sentence reduction for "good behavior." However, this reduction will not exceed 15 percent of the overall sentence.

The investigation was conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
