Dracula goes dry as new drink rules bite

ISTANBUL (Reuters) - Guests at the Istanbul premiere of a new vampire film were among the first victims of new curbs on alcohol that have raised secularist fears Islamic strictures may be encroaching on everyday life.

The rules, announced earlier this month by the tobacco and alcohol watchdog, tighten up license requirements for serving alcohol, impose restrictions on alcohol marketing and limits sales to designated areas in stores.

But the move has revived secularist accusations that Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan's government is interfering in people's lifestyles and imposing Islamic values.

The Ankara Bar Association -- part of a judiciary that has become a last bastion of Turkey's secularist old guard -- said it had lodged a challenge to the new regulations in the country's top administrative court.

"The aim of these regulations is not the public good, but to impose a new lifestyle on society," the Ankara Bar said in a court petition, obtained by Reuters.

The restrictions appeared to take hold at a comedy horror film loosely based around the Dracula story, "Sacred Demijohn Dracoola," which held its premiere on Wednesday evening.

The film's producer Senol Cengiz told Reuters the cinema had asked them not to serve alcohol for fear that they would be fined, and saw such measures further polarizing Turkish society.

"The government has promised more freedom and democracy but their actions have been signaling a contrary attitude," Cengiz said.

"It would be okay if we could believe these measures are really taken to protect kids, but it seems these are efforts to restrict lifestyles," he said.

Secularist opponents of the government have long accused it of seeking to undermine Turkey's secular principles and impose conservative values through a hidden Islamist agenda.

Such accusations draw an angry response from Erdogan, who denies any infringements on people's freedoms since his AK Party first came to power in 2002.

He retorted that "people drink as much as they want. They drink till they burst."

Liberal on economic issues and conservative on social policy matters, the AK is depicted by some members as a Muslim version of Europe's Christian Democrat parties.

Government officials have denied that the regulations are designed to limit freedoms but that they are to discourage irresponsible consumption.

State Minister Faruk Celik said the changes were aimed at harmonizing Turkey's regulatory framework with those of the European Union and protect the youth, and shouldn't be regarded as legislation driven by the ruling AK Party.

"Our goal is not to limit anyone's freedom," Celik told journalists late last week. "Our main purpose is to remedy the present situation, which has not been bound by any rules."

He said that with an election looming, opponents were trying to stigmatize the AK by raising fears of an Islamist agenda that doesn't exist.

The restrictions will also bring an end to sponsorship of sports teams by drinks companies. Among those affected will be the leading basketball team Efes Pilsen, sponsored by the drinks company Anadolu Efes.

There are concerns in the sector that the new rules will hit sales in Turkey, where alcohol consumption is well below levels elsewhere in Europe.

According to the most recent data from the OECD, per capita annual alcohol consumption in Turkey is 1.4 liters, compared with levels of around 10 liters in western Europe.

Rep. Cohen: Ventura’s Show Promotes Terrorism

After making a comment comparing establishment Republicans opposed to Obamacare to Nazi propagandist Goebbels, Tennessee Democrat Rep. Steve Cohen went on CIA operative Anderson Cooper’s CNN show to defend himself.

During the interview, Cohen took a swipe at Jesse Ventura and his popular TruTV show. Cohen makes his comment at three minutes in the following video:

Cohen: I have been writing about lies in the political spectrum for two months. There was a show that said that the government was creating concentration camps and planning to have a pandemic against its citizens, this was something on TruTV –

Cooper: Yeah, that’s Jesse Ventura’s ridiculous conspiracy show which is such a joke.

Cohen: But it’s not a joke. I wrote an op-ed about it. That’s the kind of stuff that produces Oklahoma cities, produced two deputy sheriffs being killed in West Memphis.

In other words, according to Cohen and Cooper, investigative journalism – as opposed to the sort of Pentagon script reading CNN produces – and unrestricted exercise of the First Amendment leads inexorably to terrorism and murder.

Since the murder of federal Judge Rolls and wounding of Rep. Giffords in Arizona earlier this month, Democrats and the corporate media have accused Rush Limbaugh, Alex Jones, and others of “heated rhetoric” they absurdly claim leads to the sort of psychotic violence engaged in by Jared Lee Loughner, who is essentially apolitical.

Jesse Ventura, Alex Jones, and Rush Limbaugh have not called for another Oklahoma City terror event. A former senior advisor to President Bill Clinton, however, has said that the only thing that can save Obama’s presidency is a terror attack on the scale of Oklahoma City or 9/11.

“The bottom line here is that Americans don’t believe in President Obama’s leadership,” said Robert Shapiro. “He has to find some way between now and November of demonstrating that he is a leader who can command confidence and, short of a 9/11 event or an Oklahoma City bombing, I can’t think of how he could do that.”

Finally, Rep. Cohen sits on the Subcommittee on Crime, Terrorism, and Homeland Security. On December 17, during an appearance on the Alex Jones Show, Jesse Ventura confirmed the government and Homeland Security put pressure on Time Warner to pull the show. TruTV is owned by Turner Broadcasting, a subsidiary of Time Warner. Cohen penned an acrimonious op-ed about Ventura’s episode on ten FEMA regions and regional governors. He was involved in the effort to shut down Ventura’s show.

“While the First Amendment serves a vital purpose in our society, the use of airwaves to incite citizens to distrust their government, based on deliberately told falsehoods, is appalling and could lead to people getting hurt,” Cohen wrote for Roll Call, a Capitol Hill newspaper. “Remember that Timothy McVeigh blew up a federal building in Oklahoma City because of a consuming hatred and distrust of the government. Reputable media outlets must take it upon themselves to help expose media charlatans like truTV to protect the American public.”

In fact, so-called “reputable media outlets” fabricated the militia terrorist mythology used to demonize the patriot movement. Timothy McVeigh was a documented government agent. Jesse Trentadue has provided irrefutable evidence that the FBI and the government were intimately involved in the Oklahoma City bombing.

Health Authorities Want Depression-Causing Drugs Added To Water Supply

Health authorities are pushing for drugs to be added to public water supplies that cause depression and memory loss, as a new study shows that the dangers of statins have been deliberately underplayed by drug companies, in a chilling throwback to how the population in Aldous Huxley’s Brave New World were mass medicated with Soma to keep them docile and easy to control.

Statins are taken by tens of millions of people worldwide, a boon for drug companies like Merck, whose chief executive Henry Gadsden back in 1975 dreamed of being able to sell a drug to people who had no immediately identifiable illness, or as Mike Adams writes, “They needed a way to sell drugs to healthy people.” Statins were born and the financial windfall for Big Pharma quickly followed.

Drug companies claim that statins have been proven to lower cholesterol and help prevent heart disease and strokes, leading many health experts to insist that they be artificially added to public water supplies, but dangerous side-effects buried by drug companies conducting statin trials have now come to light, in addition to the fact that “for three quarters of those taking them, they offer little or no value.”

A new study published in the Cochrane Library, which reviews drug trials, examined data from 14 drugs trials involving 34,000 patients and found evidence of “short-term memory loss, depression and mood swings,” that had been deliberately underplayed by the drug companies funding the research.

The researchers warn that, “Statins should only be prescribed to those with heart disease, or who have suffered the condition in the past. Researchers warn that unless a patient is at high risk of suffering a heart attack or stroke, statins may cause more harm than good.”

However, despite the fact that statins have also been linked to a greater risk of liver dysfunction, acute kidney failure, cataracts and muscle damage, health authorities have been pushing for the drug to be added to public water supplies as part of a mass medication program that is not only illegal without consent, but also threatens a plethora of unknown consequences.

Only last week, George Lundberg, MD, the editor of MedPageToday, which is a mouthpiece for the American Medical Association, wrote an op-ed entitled, Should We Put Statins in the Water Supply?

In May 2008, renowned cardiologist Professor Mahendra Varma called for statins to be artificially added to drinking water.

Putting statins in the water supply was also considered during a November 2008 discussion which featured Robert Bonow, M.D., of Northwestern University in Chicago, Gordon F. Tomaselli, M.D., of Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, and Anthony De Maria, M.D., of the University of California at San Diego.

Also in November 2008, CNBC aired a segment lauding the effectiveness of statins, after which one of the hosts remarked, “Why don’t they just put statins in the water supply,” to which CNBC’s medical expert replied, “A lot of people have said that and they are in the water in fact.”

The idea of adding drugs to the water supply to biochemically manipulate the thoughts and emotions of populations has gone from the realm of science fiction in Aldous Huxley’s Brave New World, where people were mass medicated with Soma to keep them docile and easy to control, to an imminent reality.

Indeed, during a March 20, 1962 Berkeley University speech, Huxley spoke of how humans would be made to “love their servitude” via the state-sponsored introduction of mind-altering drugs.

“There will be, in the next generation or so, a pharmacological method of making people love their servitude, and producing dictatorship without tears, so to speak, producing a kind of painless concentration camp for entire societies, so that people will in fact have their liberties taken away from them, but will rather enjoy it, because they will be distracted from any desire to rebel by propaganda or brainwashing, or brainwashing enhanced by pharmacological methods. And this seems to be the final revolution,” said Huxley.

In a 2008 paper titled, “Fluoride and the Future: Population Level Cognitive Enhancement,” Oxford professor Julian Savulescu explored how populations of the future could be mass-medicated through pharmacological “cognitive enhancements” added to the water supply.

In December 2009, we reported on how Japanese health authorities were considering adding trace amounts of lithium to public water supplies as a “mood stabilizer” in a bid to lower the suicide rate. Fox News medical expert Dr. Archelle Georgiou gave the concept tacit approval when she labeled the study an “interesting concept” and refused to even mention the moral aspects of mass drugging people against their will.

In his 1977 book Ecoscience, current White House science czar John P. Holdren also advocated adding sterilant drugs to the water supply as part of a program of “involuntary fertility control”.

Of course, a huge number of Americans are already being mass medicated against their will through the water supply by the artificial addition of sodium fluoride, from which one of a myriad of debilitating health effects includes lowered IQ and increased docility. Indeed, as Joseph Borkin documented in his book The Crime and Punishment of I.G. Farben, the first occurrence of artificially fluoridated drinking water on Earth was found in Germany’s Nazi prison camps. The Nazis explained that the reason for mass-medicating water with sodium fluoride was to sterilize women and coerce the victims of their concentration camps into calm submission.

“Some are divorced and disenchanted with marriage; others are young couples ideologically opposed to marriage, but eager to lighten their tax burdens. Many are lovers not quite ready for old-fashioned matrimony.

“Whatever their reasons, and they vary widely, French couples are increasingly shunning traditional marriages and opting instead for civil unions, to the point that there are now two civil unions for every three marriages.”

As traditional marriage declines in France, civil unions are on the increase. In 1999 France created the system of civil unions, apparently to accommodate gay and lesbian couples. But the surprise is that a huge number of heterosexual couples also use the same law especially for tax benefits and legal protections, which are almost the same as those for marriage. Today 95 percent of civil unions in France are between heterosexual couples, not same-sex couples. Now there are two civil unions for every three marriages. “If current trends continue in France, new civil unions could soon outnumber marriages.” A civil union is easy to enter and exit. “It can be dissolved with just a registered letter.”

“Even the Roman Catholic Church, which initially condemned the partnerships as a threat to the institution of marriage, has relented; the National Confederation of Catholic Family Associations now says civil unions do not pose “a real threat.”

French views of marriage are edging closer to the ideas of the French Revolution.

“Though French marriages are officially concluded in civil ceremonies held in town halls, not in churches, marriage is still viewed… as a ‘heavy and invasive’ institution with deep ties to Christianity, said Wilfried Rault, a sociologist at the National Institute for Demographic Studies. ‘Marriage bears the traces of a religious imprint,’ he said…”

“Starving people in drought-stricken West Africa are being forced to eat leaves and collect grain from ant hills, say aid agencies,” wrote the UK Guardian, “warning that 10 million people face starvation across the region.”

Niger and Chad are experiencing desperate conditions and famine is everywhere. Soaring food prices have made food for millions unaffordable. Even the livestock are dying. “People are eating wild fruit and leaves, and building ant hills just to capture the tiny amount of grain that the ants collect inside,” said Charles Bambara, an aid worker.

Niger is considered to be the world’s least developed country. Starving families there are eating flour mixed with wild leaves and boiled plants. 200,000 malnourished children need treatment. Seven million people face famine.

While there is food in the street markets, the people cannot buy it because of its price. Some are even slaughtering their livestock, which is often their only source of income. Thousands of animals have also died from starvation.

Failed harvests due to drought are a large part of the problem and have brought untold suffering.

Jesus prophesied that there would be famines as we near the end of time. Niger and Chad are certainly fulfilling this prophecy.

DHS Oklahoma: “Sniffin’ Dirt”…Snitching On Your Neighbor Will Keep Us All Safe!

This has nothing to do with security, crimes or anything else of that nature.  It is a snitch set up.  This is community training.  This is conditioning to get people comfortable with the idea of reporting on their neighbors; a concept repugnant to most free societies, but one very common to police states.

Homeland Security, that bastion of police state warriors has set up housekeeping in the once great state of Oklahoma.  Their new website “Red Dirt Ready” would be more aptly titled “Sniffin’ Dirt”.  The site, all plumped up with militant looking people, some who are, I suppose, supposed to represent first responders and medical personnel, encourages Oklahoman’s to be ready for an emergency!  Why!  You can even win yourself an emergency survival kit!  Oh!  And you can snitch on your neighbors too!

In the upper right hand corner of the header is a “Report Activity” button.  I just had to check it out.  I quickly deduced that native Oklahomans must be somewhat dimwitted or at least Homeland Security and the FBI think they are.

Of course I couldn’t stop here.  I just had to see how to identify suspicious activity.  I had to because, well….we are all felons in the police state and lord knows I wouldn’t want to get on one of those watch lists with those 3 million or so other people who dared to speak out and who are now targeted as a “suspected domestic terrorist” by 17 or so intelligence agencies who spend their time conducting costly and unnecessary surveillance on American citizens who refuse to tow the “party” line.  Right comrade?

Identifying suspicious activity is not a difficult science. Rely on your judgment. Your suspicion of a threat could be confirmed with only one incident or it could take a series of incidents. Your suspicions will need to be based on: Experience, Judgment and Common Sense.  (Obviously the people of Oklahoma have been deemed not to have any of these qualities)

To assist in recognizing and reporting suspicious activity, consider the following guidelines to help make an informed decision.

Under this subtitle was the usual know your neighbor stuff, and report crimes if you see them occurring.  What got my attention was this little ditty:

* Controversial issues being debated.

Now what could that mean?  Why would the discussion of controversial issues be viewed as a threat by Homeland Security and the FBI and your local police department?  I believe it means if you hear anyone discussing non-government approved topics that include non-government approved ideas, information or comments that are not approved in an ideal police state…you need to report that; or you need to be reported.

Oh yeah….in case of a flood, fire or other disaster, give them a buzz.  They’ll see if they can help.

Since our police departments have been militarized and are now all under control of Homeland Security, and since their purpose is no longer to protect and serve but rather, to assault and attack whenever the opportunity arises, this could present a clear and present danger to the public at large.  I think we should all report them, after all, this is very suspicious activity if you ask me.

I would expand on Oklahoma’s new “Dirt Sniffin’” site.  But you get the drift.  This has nothing to do with security, crimes or anything else of that nature.  It is a snitch set up.  This is community training.  This is conditioning to get people comfortable with the idea of reporting on their neighbors; a concept repugnant to most free societies, but one very common to police states.

I have no doubt these sites will appear in each and every state especially in consideration of the new kazillion square foot spy center they are building in Utah.  Believe it or not, some people actually think that center is going to be used to track terrorists from “over there”.  It is:  over there in Arizona, over there in Texas, over there in Nevada, up there in Missouri, out there in Maine…..any place American citizens reside in the geographical United States.  What most people fail to grasp is, our government is in fear of us; it is the people of the US that our own government views as a threat.

As the noose on the police state tightens, we will see more snitch and report opportunities.  No doubt, staged “events” will occur to cement in the public’s mind that only YOU can prevent another terrorist attack.  Just pick up that phone and drop that dime!  Mad at your neighbor?  Hey! Just make up some story and call Homeland Security.  That’ll show’em.

As a young girl, it never once occurred to me that I would ever see the day in this country when our own government would actively recruit neighborhood snitches to report on their neighbors or friends or even family members.  I honestly believe there are few among us who would not report a crime, or who would not come forward if we actually did hear something that needed to be reported to the authorities.  As a middle-aged woman, one who has watched in disbelief as everything we thought we represented is taken from us, I have no illusions.  We are being led into the police state where even our thoughts or conversations can get us killed or imprisoned for life.

Personally, I think we should start constructing citizen surveillance centers where we can report the suspicious activity of government agents and agencies.  After all, if we are the enemy, and by all standards it appears we are, we need to know who these people are and who they work for as well as what they are doing.

We are under attack.  It isn’t someone from “over there; it isn’t some nameless, unidentifiable, untraceable and undefined enemy.  We see these people on the news, in the papers and hear them on the radio.  We elected many of them and saw many others simply appointed to some position they were most likely not qualified to hold.  These people are the faces and voices of the police state; have they now become our enemy?

For the last few months we have received tips and reports from credible sources,  including multiple truck drivers in the mid west, who have reported that their GPS systems were going haywire.

Until now we have been unable to find any information as to why this was happening.

Don’t panic, but anyone planning on using GPS in the southeastern US for the next month or so will likely want to make sure they have a fallback option.

That’s according to a flight advisory just issued by the FAA, which warns pilots that their GPS signal “may be unreliable or unavailable” due to “GPS tests” that the Department of Defense will be conducting between January 20th and February 22nd.

Details are fairly light beyond that, but the FAA does note that when the “tests” occur they will be active for 45 minutes, and be followed by 15 minutes of off time — additional notices to pilots will apparently be issued at least 24 hours prior to any test.

The Department of Homeland Security has released a trio of chilling PSA video clips in which ordinary everyday activities are characterized as signs of potential terrorism, with the public being indoctrinated to assume the role of domestic spies reporting on their friends and neighbors as America sinks deeper into a decaying police state.

Following the January 1st implementation of the stasi-style “See Something, Say Something” campaign, in which Americans were urged to report “suspicious activity” by means of Orwellian telescreens placed at Wal-Mart checkouts which played a looped message from Janet Napolitano, the DHS announced that the program was set to be expanded to include 9,000 federal buildings, as well as sports stadiums, businesses and communities in general.

We now know how that expansion will manifest itself – with Americans at every level of society being trained that activities such as using cash, not having a credit card, taking pictures or video footage, asking questions, and wearing certain items of clothing are all suspicious and should be reported, while being coerced into living in constant fear of terror, when in reality they are more likely to die from peanut allergies, lightning strikes, or accident-causing deer than terrorist attacks.

DHS will no longer be limited to the airport in the form of the TSA, but will become a ubiquitous entity policing everyone through a network of citizen spies and infrastructure security technology. The agency will also assume the mantle of regulating Americans’ every behavior and activity. DHS signs are already in place all over the country telling people where they can and can’t park their cars.

As we have documented, every historical example of such informant programs illustrates that they never lead to a more secure society, but instead breed suspicion, distrust, fear and resentment amongst the population. The only “benefit” that such programs have ever achieved is allowing the state to more easily identify and persecute political dissidents while discouraging the wider population from engaging in any criticism against the government.

As we have seen from a myriad of reports put out by the DHS and threat fusion centers across the country – the primary targets of Homeland Security in their campaign to have everyone treated with suspicion are gun owners, people who know their rights, and people who exercise their freedoms.

As part of the Commercial Facilities Sector Training and Resources, the following PSA videos have been released by Department of Homeland Security (DHS).

DHS Video No Reservations – Extension of “See Something, Say Something” program. This video equates people who use cash or have a distrust of credit cards as suspicious and potential terrorists.

DHS Video Retail Sector – Extension of “See Something, Say Something” program. This video instigates paranoia by turning everyday activity into potential terrorist warning signs.

DHS Video Bag check– Extension of “See Something, Say Something” program This video shows that anyone attending public events will be under the scrutiny of DHS.

Manhattan U.S. Attorney Announces Guilty Plea of Senior Gambino Associate on Murder and Assault Charges

PREET BHARARA, the United States Attorney for the Southern District of New York, announced today that JOSEPH WATTS, a longtime associate of the Gambino Organized Crime Family of La Cosa Nostra (the "Gambino Family"), pled guilty this morning before U.S. District Judge COLLEEN MCMAHON to a two-count Superseding Information that charges WATTS with participating in murder and assault conspiracies in order to maintain and increase his influence in the Gambino Family.

According to the Information, the plea proceeding, and the record of the case:

WATTS was a close associate of one-time Gambino Family Boss JOHN A. GOTTI and others. Although WATTS was never formally inducted into the Gambino Family as a "made" member because of his non-Italian lineage, he was afforded the status of a Gambino Family capo.

In 1989, FREDERICK WEISS was a defendant in a case that was pending in the Southern District of New York. JOHN J. GOTTI, then-boss of the Gambino Family, suspected that WEISS was cooperating with the government because he terminated a lawyer who regularly represented Gambino Family members and associates. GOTTI ordered WEISS to be murdered—an order that GOTTI communicated to WATTS and others. WATTS then put together a murder team to carry out the hit.

In September 1989, WATTS and others went to a house on Staten Island where they expected WEISS would be. WATTS assigned different Gambino members and associates to different tasks, including digging the grave where WEISS would be buried. WATTS himself stood in the garage, holding a gun and waiting to shoot WEISS upon his arrival. Because WEISS did not show up to the house as WATTS had expected, he was not killed that day. However, a different team of shooters to whom GOTTI had also assigned the task of killing WEISS successfully located him the next day. He was shot to death in front of his apartment building.

While WATTS was serving a prison sentence in connection with his 2001 conviction for money laundering, he met Victim-1, whom he came to admire because of Victim-1's purported stockpicking abilities. When Victim-1 was released from prison, WATTS sent an emissary to deliver approximately $350,000 to $400,000—all cash—to Victim-1 to invest on WATTS’s behalf. The investment failed. In 2002, WATTS demanded his money back from Victim-1, who returned some, but not all, of WATTS’s money.

To force Victim-1 to give him back all the money, WATTS began threatening Victim-1. On one occasion, WATTS and another individual confronted Victim-1 in Manhattan and physically assaulted him. On a subsequent occasion, WATTS threatened Victim-1 and physically shoved Victim-1 against a wall.

WATTS, 69, of Staten Island, New York, faces a maximum sentence of 13 years in prison. He is scheduled to be sentenced by Judge MCMAHON on April 20, 2011, at 10:00 a.m. Mr. BHARARA praised the investigative work of the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
