A tube-nosed fruit bat with an appearance reminiscent of the Star Wars Jedi Master Yoda has been discovered in a remote rainforest.

The bat, along with an orange spider and a yellow-spotted frog are among a host of new species found in a region of Papua New Guinea.

More than 200 animals and plants were revealed for the first time after two months of surveying in the rugged and little-explored Nakanai and Muller mountain ranges last year.

Looks familiar: The creature bears more than a passing resemblance to the Star Wars Jedi Master Yoda

The findings included two mammals,
24 species of frog, nine plants, nearly 100 new insects including
damselflies, crickets and ants, and around 100 spiders.

A
white tipped-tail mouse, at least one ant and several of the crickets,
or katydids, are so different from other known species they each
represent an entirely new genus, the scientists said.

They were uncovered by two
scientific teams co-ordinated by Conservation International's rapid
assessment programme, in partnership with Papua New Guinea's Institute
for Biological Research and conservation organisation A Rocha
International.

The teams explored different
altitudes of the forest-cloaked Nakanai mountains, which host cave
systems and some of the world's largest underground rivers, and the
Muller range, accessing the remote areas by plane, dinghy, on foot and
even by helicopter.

In the Nakanai surveys, scientists discovered a beautiful yellow-spotted frog found only high up in the mountains, the mouse with the white-tipped tail and the tiny 2cm frog which calls for a mate in the afternoon - unlike most frogs in the area which call at night.

In the Muller range, researchers found what they described as a 'spectacular variety' of insects, spiders and frogs.

One of the newly-discovered katydids has exceptionally long, spiny hind legs which it uses to jab at anything that threatens it, one new species has pink eyes and another has emerald-green patterning.

Leeanne Alonso, Conservation
International's rapid assessment programme director said the
discoveries made in both surveys were incredibly significant.

'While very encouraging, these discoveries do not mean that our global biodiversity is out of the woods,' she said.

'On the contrary, they should serve as a cautionary message about how much we still don't know about Earth's still hidden secrets and important natural resources, which we can only preserve with co-ordinated, long-term management.'

Dr Martin Kaonga, interim director of science and conservation at A Rocha International, said: 'It's very important we find these species, because it's only when you know what species exist in an area that you may be in a position to understand how to manage that given area.'

He also said species may have uses, for example as medicines, and that there was a need to raise understanding among local people of the value of the wildlife found in their forests.

Meanwhile, several new discoveries in South-East Asia’s Mekong river are also causing a stir.

A fish with curving vampire fangs, a gecko that looks as if it's wearing lipstick and a carnivorous plant more than 7m high may sound like creatures from a nightmare but they are real.

They are just three of 145 new species found in the area in 2009 and highlighted in a WWF International report issued today, ahead of the UN Convention on Biological Diversity in Nagoya, Japan, this month.

The diversity of the region, so rich that an average of three new species were discovered each week last year, also highlights the need for action to ensure these new finds survive, WWF International said.

Among the animals highlighted in New Blood: Greater Mekong New Species Discoveries 2009’ is the Dracula minnow, with bulging eyes and two sharp fangs curving from its low-slung jaw. Luckily, the fish only grows to a maximum of 16.7 mm.

More attractive by far is the lipstick gecko, barely big enough to perch on a finger, with a dark barred pattern across its lips suggestive of cosmetics.

Other featured creatures include a fangless snake, a frog that chirps like a cricket, and a pitcher plant that traps insects and grows to a height of over seven metres.

‘This rate of discovery is simply staggering in modern times," said Stuart Chapman, Conservation Director of WWF Greater Mekong, in a statement.

‘Each year, the new species count keeps going up, and with it, so too does the responsibility to ensure this region's unique biodiversity is conserved.’

forests in central Laos, while the Murina eleryi (Eleryi's tube-nosed bat), is found in northern Vietnam

The report said these discoveries highlight the Greater Mekong's immense biodiversity but they also pinpoint the fragility of the region's diverse habitats and species.

The WWF report cited the likely local extinction of the Javan rhino in Vietnam as one tragic indicator of the decline of biodiversity in recent times.

The Greater Mekong region covers Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand, Vietnam and the southern Chinese province of Yunnan.

Computer interconnectivity has produced enormous benefits but has also enabled criminal activity that exploits this interconnectivity for financial gain and other malicious purposes, such as Internet fraud, child exploitation, identity theft, and terrorism (Cybercrime: Public and Private Entities Face Challenges in Addressing Cyber Threats, U.S. Government Accountability Office, 2007). The Internet can give identity thieves, hackers, and scammers online access to your computer, financial and personal information and more (Stop.Think.Click: 7 Practices for Safer Computing, OnGuard Online, 2007). Additionally, today's mobile devices are well integrated with the Internet and have far more functionality than mobile phones of the past. They are increasingly used in the same way as personal computers, potentially making them susceptible to similar threats affecting PCs connected to the Internet (Cyber Threats to Mobile Devices, U.S. Computer Emergency Readiness Team, 2010).

For youths, the Internet often serves as a positive and powerful arena for socializing and learning. However, the use of the Internet also brings about risks to their safety, including the dangers of sexual solicitation, online harassment and bullying, and exposure to illegal content (Enhancing Child Safety and Online Technologies: Final Report of the Internet Safety Technical Task Force to the Multi-State Working Group on Social Networking of State Attorneys General of the United States, Berkman Center for Internet & Society at Harvard University, 2008). By discussing responsible socializing and communicating, parents — regardless of whether they are technologically savvy — can help their kids make better decisions about online behavior (Net Cetera: OnGuardOnline.gov’s Internet Safety Campaign for Children – A Report to Congress, Federal Trade Commission, 2010).

Efforts to address cybercrime include activities associated with protecting networks and information, detecting criminal activity, investigating crime, and prosecuting criminals (Cybercrime: Public and Private Entities Face Challenges in Addressing Cyber Threats, U.S. Government Accountability Office, 2007). Additionally, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security has launched the Stop. Think. Connect. Campaign, a national public awareness effort to guide the nation to a higher level of Internet safety by challenging the American public to be more vigilant about practicing good “cyber hygiene.” (National Cybersecurity Awareness Campaign, U.S. Department of Homeland Security, 2010).

Is Thad Stevens Driving His Museum Into Debt?

Founding Father and Pennsylvania Renaissance man Benjamin Franklin was once quoted as saying that “creditors have better memories than debtors”. Apparently the Historical Preservation Trust of Lancaster County is learning the wisdom of Franklin’s words the hard way. It was reported recently in the Intelligencer Journal that nonprofit preservation organization is eight months behind on a debt of over $741,000 owed to the Lancaster County Convention Center Authority for costs associated with the construction and preservation of the Thaddeus Stevens and Lydia Hamilton Smith Museum that will be adjoining Lancaster’s new convention center. The trust had hoped to use the new meeting area as a platform to tell the story of Stevens and Smith, but the museum now sits unfinished. Until the Preservation Trust can raise the addition funds needed for the final construction, design, and installment of the displays, the Stevens / Smith Museum will continue to be a distant goal, despite the fact that the Lancaster City Convention Center has been up and running for almost a year now. Regardless of what the money situation is, both sides are still hopeful that the debt will be settled and this whole business of the Stevens / Smith Museum can be put firmly in the past for all parties involved. As someone who has spent time studying the lives of Congressman Thaddeus Stevens and his housekeeper / confidant Lydia Hamilton Smith (and who has also donated money to the Preservation Trust in the past), I think that the Stevens / Smith Museum is a great idea, but it is sad to see that the museum is still no closer to opening now than it was over a year and half ago. The story of Stevens and Smith is one that needs to be told, but sadly is often overlooked in American history classes – even here in the Commonwealth. (To read more on this story from Lancaster Online.com, click here)

Born in 1792 in Danville, Vermont and educated at Dartmouth College, Thaddeus Stevens was not your typical American politician. But then again, he wasn’t really your typical American of the mid- to late-19th Century. Upon moving to the Commonwealth in 1815, Stevens studied law and, after establishing a successful law practice in Gettysburg, began an equally successful career as a state legislator where he was an early member of the Anti-Masonic movement and a fierce advocate for public education (see past History Examiner content). It was also rumored that Stevens operated a safe house for runaway slaves on his Gettysburg property in defiance of Federal law and defended fugitive slaves in the courts. In 1842, Stevens moved from Gettysburg to Lancaster. The reasoning for his move to the Red Rose City has remained controversial to this day. According to legend, the body of an African-American woman was found in a lake on Steven’s property and, during an autopsy, it was discovered she was pregnant. Though nothing ever came of the case, rumor had it that Stevens was the father and that he had moved to Lancaster to avoid public humiliation over the scandal.

Regardless of the reasoning, Stevens purchased a stately house on South Queen Street in Lancaster and hired a former Gettysburg resident, Lydia Hamilton Smith, as his housekeeper. Not much is known about Smith’s early life other than she was a very light skinned mulatto and was raising two young boys as a single mother. For the next twenty-five years, Smith would be Stevens’ confidant and trusted companion, running his Lancaster residency and traveling with him to Washington DC, while Stevens was serving a member of the House of Representatives from 1849 till his death in 1868. Controversy and rumor continued to swirl around their relationship as historians debate whether or not Stevens and Smith engaged in a romantic affair. In his 1915 film The Birth of a Nation, Director D.W. Griffith modeled villainous congressman Austin Stoneman after Stevens, complete with a mulatto mistress modeled after Smith. Regardless of their true feelings for each other, accounts of the time indicate that the Stevens / Smith relationship was cordial and respectful on both sides, with Stevens consistently treated Smith as an equal and with great deference at a time when most educated, white, men considered women and blacks (even light skinned ones) as inferior.

Though Stevens is probably best remembered in American history as the chairman of the powerful Ways and Mean Committee, that helped to finance the Union war effort during American Civil War, or as one of the leaders of the so-called “Radical” Republicans who among other things tried to impeach and remove President Andrew Johnson from office in 1868, Stevens was also a powerful figure in the fight for equality in American society. His efforts would not just in the area of race, but also in the arena of class and physical handicap. Archeological evidence in recent years has show that a water cistern under Steven’s Lancaster home had been modified to accommodate humans and that Stevens had continued to function as an operative on the Underground Railroad well into the 1860’s. In 1851, Stevens defended Pennsylvania Quaker Caster Hanaway in the infamous Christiana Riot Treason Trial and won him an acquittal, much to the anger of Southern slaveholders. His hatred of the Southern institution of slavery was so well known that, during the Civil War, Confederate General Jubal Early ordered Stevens’ iron business, at modern-day Caledonia State Park in Pennsylvania, burned to the ground during the 1863 invasion of the mid-state and General Robert E. Lee made a point of turning Steven’s former Gettysburg residence into his headquarters during the three-day battle at Gettysburg.

Despite all of this, Stevens never lost sight of his goals of equality. Born with a club foot, he spoke often of providing safeguards for the education of other physically handicapped Americans, leaving money in his will for the founding of a technical school in Lancaster for that end. That school has evolved over the years into the Thaddeus Stevens College of Technology, which continues to provide educational opportunities for those less fortunate. Stevens also personally authored the Fourteenth Amendment to the Constitution, which provided African-Americans with the right to vote and American citizenship. When Stevens died in August of 1868, his will requested that he be buried in Lancaster’s Shreiner-Concord Cemetery because it was the only cemetery that would accept people without regard to race.

In today’s modern day society, Thaddeus Stevens would probably be seen as an idealist. He dreamed of a socially just world, where unearned privilege did not exist. A kind of modern-day humanist, Stevens believed from his own personal experiences that being different or having a different perspective can be beneficial and enriching to society and that differences among people should not be feared or oppressed but celebrated. Hopefully the future Thaddeus Stevens and Lydia Hamilton Smith Museum in Lancaster will be a showcase of Steven’s undying belief in this cause and that all us can be inspired by it to try and make our communities, our state, and our country a better place.

Britons: Church must aid abuse victims - UPI.com

LONDON, Oct. 6 (UPI) -- A large majority of British residents say the Catholic Church has not done enough to help victims of sexual abuse, a poll released Wednesday indicated.

Four in five Britons, 80 percent, and more than two-thirds of Catholics in Britain, 68 percent, agree that not enough has been done, Angus Reid Public Opinion said. About six out of 10, 59 percent, of Britons and 42 percent of Catholics say the church has handled the scandal badly.

The Vatican estimated in 2009 that the percentage of priests involved in sexual abuse during the past half century was between 1.5 percent and 5 percent. About one-quarter of Britons agreed with those numbers, with 37 percent saying they think abuse is actually less widespread, involving only a few priests, and 27 percent saying it might involve as many as half the clergy.

Half of the Catholics polled thought Pope Benedict XVI was sincere in his apologies for clerical sexual abuse and the church's handling of the issue during his recent visit to Britain, as did 43 percent of all Britons.

Angus Reid, based in Toronto, surveyed 2,005 adult members of its Springboard U.K. panel on line between Sept. 22 and Sept. 24. The poll has a margin of error of 2.2 percentage points.

Do Jews Control the Media?

Cardinal Oscar Andres Rodriguez Meridiaga -- who was a runner up for the papacy -- blamed the Jewish-controlled media, particularly The New York Times, for the sex scandal that has plagued the Catholic Church.

Here is his "logic." He begins by asserting that the Vatican is anti-Israel and pro-Palestinian. It follows, therefore, that "the Jews" had to get even with the Catholic Church, while at the same time deflecting attention away from Israeli injustices against the Palestinians.

The Jews managed to do this by arranging for the media which they, of course, control to give disproportionate attention to the Vatican sex scandal.

Rodriguez compared the Jewish-controlled media with "Hitler," because they are "protagonists of what I do not hesitate to define as a persecution against the Church."

Will the Pope be Served... | Religion Dispatches

#

Serving court papers on the Pope takes some doing. According to the Survivors Network of those Abused by Priests (SNAP), for the first time a US federal judge has entered the fray in a case involving alleged sexual abuse by the late Rev. Lawrence Murphy at St. John’s School for the Deaf in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

Judge Rudolph T. Randa of the US District Court for the Eastern Division of Wisconsin in Milwaukee recently released three two-page documents asking the Vatican to cooperate in serving paper on three of its highest officials, including the Pope himself, a.k.a. Joseph Ratzinger. Also to be served are Italian Cardinal Tarcisio Bertone who is the Secretary of State, and Angelo Sodano, another Italian cardinal who was Bertone’s predecessor and is now the Dean of the College of Cardinals.

They are “wanted” in conjunction with what they knew when of the abuse against Terry Kohut by Father Murphy. The local bishop contacted the Congregation of the Doctrine of the Faith that Ratzinger headed before his promotion to request an ecclesial trial. The trial went forward, but after a letter from Father Murphy to the Roman congregation it was eventually called off, supposedly due to the man’s age and ill health. SNAP and supporters see this as one more case of the Vatican favoring perpetrators over victims. Some satisfaction will come if/when the officials are forced to testify.

The “letters rogatory,” as the judge’s missives are known, probably will not get very far very fast. The Vatican likes its correspondence to arrive in Latin so translation of such legal materials takes time. Its attorneys claim the lawsuit is without merit, that the alleged abuse took place more than thirty years ago. The Vatican routinely “disappears” when these cases emerge, suddenly asserting that it is the local bishops’ conferences that are in charge of priests and not the Vatican.

Whatever happens with this legal action, and frankly I doubt much will come of it in the lifetime of the main players, it is important to note that at least one US judge had the integrity, compassion, and legal grounds to do the right thing. Here’s hoping others join him.

The $8 million gift to Loyola University New Orleans from the Gayle & Tom Benson Charitable Foundation, run by the Saints owners, will be used to renovate a former library building to house the Tom Benson Jesuit Center and a chapel. The Georgetown endowment originated in a $1.2 million charitable trust established by the will of the late Harry J. Toulmin in 1965. Kurt S. Clark: Heading into communism » Abilene Reporter-News

Kurt S. Clark, Abilene

As the elder Benjamin Franklin emerged from the Declaration of Independence convention, he was asked by a woman ”Sir, what have we, a republic or monarchy?”

He replied, “A republic if we can keep it.” He realized way back then that our country could be headed for trouble.

Today we have a social democracy. We are headed for communism. When you have a government that will take the wealth you have accumulated and distribute it to those who are not willing to work for it, it is the real teaching of Karl Marx, the writer of “The Communist Manifesto.” It said “to each according to his ability (you work), unto each according to his need (welfare or redistribution of the wealth).” Sound recent.

What are we allowing our country to slip into? We (not I) elected an unknown. It turns out that as a youth he spent many years in an African country that was totalitarian in government, but the people elected him because we were sick of Bush’s dictatorship and he promised change. He just did not outline how.

We need to be more vigilant Nov. 2 this year. Do not re-elect the garbage in Washington. Let us try to restore the republic our forefathers held so dear, not just a democracy which is two wolves and a sheep voting on what is for dinner.

Okay, Mr. Vice President. Thanks for clearing that up for me. I see now that the executive offices position on wealth is that it is not fair for some to have more wealth than others and the fair thing to do then is to redistribute what some people have to others even if it has to be done without their permission. Wow! Was my Kindergarten teacher Ms. Lund wrong. She taught us that that was called stealing. As you can probably imagine, Im actually quite upset at her right now for not doing a better job of explaining this to us at age 5 since I see now that I have forgone countless opportunities since then to redistribute wealth my way.

Better late than never though; my neighbor has a smoking hot 1969 Mustang convertible that has been restored to near mint condition. I on the other hand drive a 2006 Ford Escort. I dont know how my neighbor obtained such a cherry ride but as you said: redistribution of wealth is just being fair so Im going to redistribute his car to my garage tonight after he goes to bed. Id do it during the day but I dont know if hes read your article today or not, so he might get upset if he hasnt. Better to just do what is fair and worry about the rest later. Honestly, Ive wanted his car since the first day I saw it but was struggling with the morality of forcibly taking things that dont belong to me, until I read your article that says its okay.

Davis/Obama is the creation of Jesuit Temporal Coadjutor Zbignew Brzezinski, a Roman Catholic Socialist-Communist, a Bilderberger and a CFR/Trilateral Commission member. This wicked sinner not only participated in the Panama Canal giveaway (effective as of 1999) as President Carter’s National Security Adviser, but he also aided in the Order’s creation of mass-murderer Pol Pot of Cambodia, Osama bin Laden (CIA alias “Tim Osman”) and now “Barack Hussein Obama” whose immediate adviser is a White Roman Catholic and Jesuit honoree, Vice President Joe Biden. Yes, Barry is merely “Step-n-fetchit” for “massa” Joe! The Pope’s International White Power Structure in place since the Congress of Vienna (1815) has controlled the American presidency since its assassination of President Lincoln regardless of who may be in office. Resist it, and you will be “JFKd!”

The Black Pope’s Masonic International Intelligence Community was perfected during the Pope’s Cold War Hoax (1945-1990). One of its major architects was Hitler’s right-hand man and controller, SS General Martin Bormann: Nazi in Exile. Of the 750 corporations he created with Nazi SS loot, all of them became fronts for the CIA presently directed by Knight of Malta and Jesuit darling, Roman Catholic Leon Panetta. Panetta’s CIA, in turn, is doing business with Knight of Malta Roman Catholic Erik Prince’s Blackwater (Xe), the world’s most powerful mercenary army! This very same pope-serving CIA also created the Pakistani ISI now building an enemy for US forces to fight in Afghanistan and Pakistan. And guess who went to Pakistan as a CIA operative way back in the 1980s? That’s right, Muslim Barry Davis Soetoro who at that time adapted an Islamic name! The following report by Wayne Madsen illustrates the point while addressing other issues most pertinent to our dark hour. Enjoy!

Knight of Malta Joseph Schmitz, Blackwater Official, 2005

September 5-7, 2010 — CIA did business with Blackwater through over 30 Brass Plate Firms — Wayne Madsen Report (WMR) Names Them!

In yet another example of how Barack Obama is subservient to the wishes of the CIA, his one-time employer, it has been revealed by the Senate Armed Services Committee that the former Blackwater established a network of 31 brass plate, shell, and off-shore tax dodging subsidiaries, many of which had contracts with the CIA. Some of these contracts continue with the CIA, as well as the State Department. The CIA’s contract work with the successor companies to Blackwater and its subsidiaries has been authorized by CIAQ director Leon Panetta, who one former CIA official described to WMR as an “asshole who is merely a figurehead.”

The New York Times recently reported that the Senate Armed Services Committee issued released a chart showing that Blackwater and its various entities, described as over 30 shell companies, to garner U.S. government contracts even after it was cited for human rights violations in Iraq and Afghanistan. More recently, the successor to Blackwater, Xe Services LLC, was awarded a $100 million contract by the CIA to provide security for its base of operations in Afghanistan. Erik Prince, Blackwater’s founder, recently moved to Abu Dhabi [the second largest city in the UAE, Dubai being the largest] with his family to seek new business for Xe Security in the region. [Rome's Knights of Malta are busy rebuilding the Kingdom of Babylon (under the guise of building a new Sunni Caliphate) to extend from Dubai to Istambul!---EJP]

The New York Times misses the point in its revelation. Blackwater/Xe and all of its contrivances, many of them off-shore firms far removed from U.S. government oversight, fit the pattern usually found with CIA front companies. The fact that President Obama, himself, worked for such a firm, Business International Corporation in Manhattan, appears to have been lost on Senate Armed Services Committee chairman [Jewish CFR member] Senator Carl Levin (D-MI) and his committee investigators. With [Roman Catholic] Panetta at Langley and [Roman Catholic] Robert Gates, a former CIA director at the helm of the Pentagon, Obama has signaled to the U.S. intelligence community that the use of CIA proprietaries by his administration is every much “business as usual” as was the CIA’s use of Southern Air Transport, another CIA proprietary, during the Iran-Contra scandal of the 1980s [overseen by Jesuit Fordham University-trained Knight of Malta DCI William J. Casey]. There also is no indication that Obama has abandoned the use of CIA airline proprietary firms [such as Evergreen Airlines], with post office box and mail drop addresses scattered across the United States that were first used by the [Skull and Bones/Masonic] Bush-Cheney administration in the CIA’s “extraordinary rendition” kidnapping and secret detention program.

The Times article mentions two Blackwater/Xe shadow firms, XPG and Greystone Ltd. WMR previously reported on the use of Barbados’s company confidentiality laws by Blackwater to establish Greystone as an international marketing arm of Blackwater/Xe. From Barbados,
Blackwater/Xe is free to conduct mercenary recruiting operations from nations around the world with dismally poor human rights records and
ex-security force personnel more than willing to engage in their murderous activities under contract to the CIA, Pentagon, or any other repressive tin-horn dictatorship willing to pay.

Knight of Malta Erik Prince, Founder of Blackwater/Xe, 2009

On October 13, 2007, WMR reported on Greystone stirring up a political hornet’s nest on Barbados: “Blackwater USA’s international marketing branch, Greystone, Ltd., registered as an International Business Company in Barbados, is beginning to create a political stir in the Caribbean island nation. Recently, Erik Prince, Blackwater’s Chairman and CEO, testified under oath to the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee that Blackwater did not market foreign governments to provide security services. He testified that the only foreign contracts performed by Blackwater were under license from the U.S. government. However, Greystone’s website states the following about the subsidiary’s foreign marketing:

“Greystone is an international security services company that offers your country or organization a complete solution to your most pressing security needs. We have the personnel, logistical support, equipment, and expertise to solve your most critical security problems.”

Prince seems to have omitted Greystone as a Blackwater firm during his congressional testimony. Or he perjured himself under oath. Blackwater’s presence in Barbados, under the corporate confidentiality regimes of the Caribbean island nation’s off-shore corporation hosting legal contrivances, has stirred up opposition in the country. Bajans are pointing to Prime Minister Owen Arthur’s Minister of Commerce and
Consumer Affairs Senator Lynette Eastmond, who has oversight authority for foreign corporations in Barbados. However, the selection of Barbados as Blackwater’s headquarters for its international marketing arm is likely due to the island nation’s past cooperation with other U.S. “covert activities.”

In the book, Jaded Tasks: Brass Plates, Black Ops, and Big Oil, this editor delved into the use of various corporate contrivances by U.S. and foreign intelligence agencies in the so-called “global war on terror.” Although Obama said the global war terror is a thing of the past, it is another case of not listening to what Obama says but watching what he does. There is no indication that Obama is any different from his predecessor in using secretive corporate identities to mask U.S. covert operations, many of them of questionable legality, abroad.

The New York Times curiously did not produce Levin’s committee’s chart showing the some 30 Blackwater/Xe shell firms, partnerships, and subsidiaries. We are providing that information in the table of Blackwater/Xe’s various corporate contrivances and linkages at the end of this article.

Papal Knight Zbignew Brzezinski and CIA creation Osama bin Ladan, 1990s

With private military contractors like Blackwater/Xe having hired tens of thousands of soldiers of fortune to supplement the military and para-military activities of the United States, Britain, and other countries, there may be another reason to keep these privateers fully employed. One such ex-private military contractor, who now finds himself out of work because of blowing the whistle on contract fraud and ties between private contractors and known terrorists, was more than willing to tell WMR what he discovered in his work in Iraq, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar and Afghanistan and that is that “Al Qaeda is made-up bullshit.” [Of course, as Al Qaeda was created by the Knights of Malta via the CIA!]

On April 16, 2010, General Stanley McChrystal, the then-commander of U.S. and NATO forces in Afghanistan, stated in a speech in Paris that the use of private security contractors in combat zones had “gone too far.” Perhaps that was one of the major reasons that the CIA’s sock puppet, Obama, and its one-time director, Gates, fired McChrystal. To have the top U.S. military commander questioning the CIA’s covert wars and use of brigands to support them was likely the final nail in McChrystal’s professional coffin.

With [Jesuit Georgetown University-trained] General David Petraeus, the neocons’ favorite general, now in command in Afghanistan and Prince safely ensconced in Abu Dhabi, the CIA and its former employee Obama are free to continue to act in the shadows away from public scrutiny. Report: Saudi Religious Police Arrest Dozens for Prohibited Worship | Christianpost.com

Report: Saudi Religious Police Arrest Dozens for Prohibited Worship | Christianpost.com

The Philippine Embassy in Riyadh said Tuesday that it has extended assistance to 12 overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) who were arrested along with around 90 other expatriates for congregating for a religious activity.

In a report to the Philippines Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA), Philippine Consul General Ezzedin Tago said that 12 OFWs were arrested on Friday when they allegedly participated in a mass with a French priest in the Nadeem District.

The public practice of non-Muslim religions is strictly prohibited in Saudi Arabia, which bases its constitution on the Qur'an and the Sunna (traditions and sayings of the Prophet Muhammad). Non-Muslims are only allowed to gather in homes for private religious services.

Upon learning of the incident, embassy representatives verified the information, and learned that the OFWs were brought to the Rawdah Police Station. After speaking to the police on behalf of the 12, the representatives were able to convince the police to temporarily release 11 OFWs into the custody of their employers on Saturday.

Embassy representatives are currently negotiating with the employer of the remaining OFW to facilitate his release from jail. The Embassy said Tuesday that it is closely monitoring the case.

While the nationality and present status of the other 90 who were reportedly detained were not immediately known, reports claim that they – like the OFWs – were mostly, if not all, expatriates.

John Leonard Monterona, regional coordinator of Migrante Middle East Chapter, said he had been contacted by two of the OFWs on separate occasions regarding the arrests and had estimated that around 100 people were involved.

In a statement, Monterona warned OFWs to respect the cultural prohibitions imposed by the host country, specifically the performing of religious worship other than Islam.

“We are ‘foreigners’ of third class category here in Saudi,” Monterona said.

“To avoid getting into trouble like this one, our fellow OFWs must be cautious and must have a ‘sense of extra care’ especially in Saudi Arabia, which has been known to be strictly implementing its cultural laws not only to their own nationals but also to expatriates or foreign workers including OFWs,” he added.

As a matter of policy, the Saudi Government permits non-Muslims to practice their religion without interference as long as it is done privately within their own homes. Under the government's official interpretation of Islam, however, there is no legal recognition or protection of religious freedom, which is severely restricted in practice, as noted in the most recent religious freedom report on the country by the U.S. State Department.

Moreover, the country’s Commission for the Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice (CPVPV) occasionally conducts raids on private non-Muslim religious gatherings and sometimes confiscates the personal religious materials of non-Muslims.

Although the Saudi Government's stated policy protects the right to possess and use personal religious materials, it does not provide for this right in law.

Presently, approximately 85 to 90 percent of the country’s citizens are Sunni Muslims, and conversion by Muslims to another religion (apostasy) and proselytizing by non-Muslims are punishable by death under the Islamic laws adopted by the country.

Islam is the country's official religion.

New Orleans Taps Faith, Community Leaders for New Anti-Crime Effort | Christianpost.com

New Orleans Taps Faith, Community Leaders for New Anti-Crime Effort | Christianpost.com

New Orleans city officials launched a new anti-crime initiative Tuesday together with over 100 of the city’s faith and neighborhood leaders.

The Cops, Clergy and Community Coalition (CCCC), which was unveiled at a press conference Tuesday afternoon, intends to serve as a uniting force and catalyst to rebuild faith, restore citizen trust and enhance quality of life services in the New Orleans Police Department, which has been struggling to tackle the city’s pervasive crime problem.

In doing so, city officials believe the coalition will play a key role in crime-plagued neighborhoods where people are reluctant to cooperate with the police or reluctant to step forward with information that could lead to an arrest or prevent a crime from taking place.

“They (coalition members) may be able to say, ‘We’ve worked very closely with this, and I think you should have faith in the government and you should have faith in the police department,’” explained NOPD Superintendent Ronal Serpas during Tuesday’s press conference.

“That’s a critical, critical piece,” he added.

The Rev. Antoine M. Barriere, a coalition member and senior pastor of the Household of Faith Family Worship Church International, illustrated Serpas’s point in encouraging the New Orleans community to take a stand against crime in their neighborhoods by speaking up when they know something.

“We have to stand up and say, ‘We know the individuals who perpetrated the crimes.’ And they may be the family members of some of our congregation,” he said.

Though the unveiling of the new coalition was not expected until later, the recent death of a two-year-old who was killed by a stray bullet prompted officials to move for an earlier launch.

Jeremy Galmon had been caught in the crossfire of a gun battle last Sunday as the toddler was sitting in a car with his little sister. Following the shooting, members of the community resolved to help find the shooters and asked the rest of the public for information that could lead to an arrest.

“This will not change if we do not make an active, intentional decision [to] not accept[] this kind of behavior anymore,” remarked Patricia Jones, whose late brother was also killed in the street.

Adding to that, Mayor Mitch Landrieu said when the community collectively takes one small step, “that is a huge step forward.”

“This is a battle that all of us are involved in and one that we have to win,” he added.

Though New Orleans reported a 17 percent reduction in the number of violent crimes last year compared to the year before (from 179 murders to 173 murders), the city still has highest per-capita murder rate in the country.

Furthermore, five months into 2010, 80 murders had already been reported in the city, putting it on track to surpass 190 by the end of the year. In 2004, the year before Hurricane Katrina devastated the city, New Orleans reported 265 homicides.
