An energy map provided by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) shows the intensity of the tsunami caused by the magnitude 8.9 earthquake which struck Japan on March 11, 2011. A tsunami warning has been issued for the entire Pacific basin except mainland United States and Canada following a huge earthquake that hit Japan on Friday, the U.S. Pacific Tsunami Warning Center said. The warning includes Hawaii and extends from Mexico down to South American countries on the Pacific, the center said. (NOAA/Tsunami Warning Center/)#

This National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) Global bathymetry map image released on March 11, 2011 shows features of the ocean floor depth (or bathymetry) from a NOAA ETOPO-1 dataset. The image shows the entire Western Pacific basin. Notice how abruptly the Japanese islands rise out of the ocean. Other coastal Asian areas have much more gradual slopes. The islands and mountain ranges throughout the ocean, visible in this imagery, also affect the tsunami travel time and speed. In the open ocean, tsunamis can travel at speeds up to 500 mph (800 kph). This momentum is what creates such a destructive force as the wave moves inland. Tsunami waves rolled thousands of miles across the Pacific Ocean after a massive earthquake off Japan and washed ashore in Hawaii early March 11, 2011, but the tourist hotspot appeared to escape major damage. As sirens blared and Hawaiian authorities rapidly evacuated low-lying areas, the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center reported wave changes at Waianae Harbor at around 3:24 a.m. (NOAA/handout)#

Obama Abandons Defense Of Marriage Act

President Obama snubs the American family

President Obama snubs the American family
Obama Abandons Defense Of Marriage Act
Once again, President Obama has delivered a low blow to the American family.

By now, I’m sure you’ve heard about it.

On February 23rd, the Department of Justice announced President Obama’s decision to no longer defend the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) because he believes it is unconstitutional.

If you recall, huge majorities in both the House and Senate signed DOMA into law in 1996.

DOMA defines marriage as only between a man and a woman; and therefore does not compel the federal government to recognize homosexual marriages.

It also protects states from being forced to recognize homosexual marriages from other states.

But beyond just abandoning DOMA, President Obama has recklessly disregarded the will of the people.

First, he snubs us by telling Congress –- the representatives of the people that he will ignore the law they passed.

Second, he snubs us by dangerously undermining similar DOMA laws that have already been passed in forty-two states.

President Obama’s refusal to defend the federal DOMA now puts those state DOMA laws at risk.

But there is more to this than all the legal mess.

President Obama clearly shows his contempt for the role of traditional marriage and family in our culture.

As you know, husband and wife are the core units of the family.

It’s fathers and mothers who pass on morals to the children – the morals which have made America strong throughout our history.

In fact, between 1996 and 2008, in handing down opinions on DOMA, several courts identified this principle as the strongest defense of traditional marriage.

But, in the past two years under the Obama Administration, the Department of Justice has not included this in their briefs, instead offering only the bare minimum defense.

So pro-family groups, including Public Advocate are pressing Congress to pick up the pieces and defend DOMA.

Not just to file friend-of-the-court briefs but to intervene as a party in all cases where DOMA is challenged.

Right now there are ongoing challenges in states including Connecticut, New York and Massachusetts.

On the other hand, ultra-liberal Democrat Senator Dianne Feinstein (CA) plans to introduce legislation that will repeal DOMA once and for all.

And while President Obama disregards the rule of law, and disregards the will of the people, there is one group he clearly is not disregarding –- those who brought him to the White House -- and that is the Homosexual Lobby.

Even so, just writing this letter to you makes me want to work harder for you.

One thing is sure, the American people will not stand for their will to be overruled by any branch of government -- not the judicial, not the legislative, and not the President!

For the Family,
Eugene Delgaudio
President
Public Advocate of the U.S.

Frank Davis Sex With "Underage Obama"?

WND's Cashill: Frank Marshall Davis "Quite Possibly" Had Sex With "Underage Obama"

WND's Cashill: Frank Marshall Davis "Quite Possibly" Had Sex With "Underage Obama"

We previously noted that WorldNetDaily columnist Jack Cashill -- purveyor of the conspiracy theory that Bill Ayers authored Barack Obama's Dreams From My Father -- suggested that Obama may actually be "the illegitimate son of an American black." Cashill is now promoting a new book and making further wild claims: this time, that "drunken poet" Frank Marshall Davis was "plying the underage Obama with alcohol and quite possibly
sex."

From Cashill's March 10 WorldNetDaily column:

On the Hawaii front, Obama had to worry too about what [Chicago Tribune reporter David] Mendell would learn
about poet, pornographer and card-carrying member of the CPUSA, Frank Marshall
Davis.

That relationship between Obama and Davis is succinctly illustrated in the
poem "Pop," which was published under the 19-year-old Obama's name in a 1981
edition of an Occidental College literary journal.

Instinctively protective of Obama, reviewers to a person decided that the
"Pop" of the poem had to be Obama's mother's father, Stanley Dunham, the man
Obama called "Gramps."

Not a one of them asked the most basic question: Why would Obama name a poem
about the man he called "Gramps" "Pop"?

Rebecca Mead, writing in the New Yorker, unhesitatingly describes the poem as
a "loving if slightly jaded portrait of
Obama's maternal grandfather."

Obama biographer David Remnick makes the same point, "'Pop,'" he says as
though a given, "clearly reflects Obama's relationship with his grandfather
Stanley Dunham."

More oblivious still is British poet Ian McMillan. "There's a humanity in the
poem," he writes in the Guardian, "a sense of family values and shared cultural
concerns that give us a hint of the Democrat to come."

Family values? What family? Roman Polanski's? The "Pop" of the poem is a
drunken poet who is plying the underage Obama with alcohol and quite possibly
sex.

Cashill has also complained that even Fox News is part of the conspiracy to keep the public from knowing about his theories about Obama.

EVALUATION

SEA LEVEL READINGS CONFIRM THAT A TSUNAMI HAS BEEN GENERATED

WHICH COULD CAUSE WIDESPREAD DAMAGE. AUTHORITIES SHOULD TAKE

APPROPRIATE ACTION IN RESPONSE TO THIS THREAT. THIS CENTER WILL

CONTINUE TO MONITOR SEA LEVEL DATA TO DETERMINE THE EXTENT AND

SEVERITY OF THE THREAT.

A TSUNAMI IS A SERIES OF WAVES AND THE FIRST WAVE MAY NOT BE THE

LARGEST. TSUNAMI WAVE HEIGHTS CANNOT BE PREDICTED AND CAN VARY

SIGNIFICANTLY ALONG A COAST DUE TO LOCAL EFFECTS. THE TIME FROM

ONE TSUNAMI WAVE TO THE NEXT CAN BE FIVE MINUTES TO AN HOUR, AND

THE THREAT CAN CONTINUE FOR MANY HOURS AS MULTIPLE WAVES ARRIVE.

FOR ALL AREAS - WHEN NO MAJOR WAVES ARE OBSERVED FOR TWO HOURS

AFTER THE ESTIMATED TIME OF ARRIVAL OR DAMAGING WAVES HAVE NOT

OCCURRED FOR AT LEAST TWO HOURS THEN LOCAL AUTHORITIES CAN ASSUME

THE THREAT IS PASSED. DANGER TO BOATS AND COASTAL STRUCTURES CAN

CONTINUE FOR SEVERAL HOURS DUE TO RAPID CURRENTS. AS LOCAL

CONDITIONS CAN CAUSE A WIDE VARIATION IN TSUNAMI WAVE ACTION THE

ALL CLEAR DETERMINATION MUST BE MADE BY LOCAL AUTHORITIES.

ESTIMATED INITIAL TSUNAMI WAVE ARRIVAL TIMES AT FORECAST POINTS

WITHIN THE WARNING AND WATCH AREAS ARE GIVEN BELOW. ACTUAL

ARRIVAL TIMES MAY DIFFER AND THE INITIAL WAVE MAY NOT BE THE

LARGEST. A TSUNAMI IS A SERIES OF WAVES AND THE TIME BETWEEN

SUCCESSIVE WAVES CAN BE FIVE MINUTES TO ONE HOUR.

Earthquake Summary

Tectonic Summary

The 03/11/2011 earthquake (preliminary magnitude 8.9) near the east coast of Honshu, Japan, occurred as a result of thrust faulting on or near the subduction zone interface plate boundary between the Pacific and North America plates. At the latitude of this earthquake, the Pacific plate moves approximately westwards with respect to the North America plate at a velocity of 83 mm/yr. The Pacific plate thrusts underneath Japan at the Japan Trench, and dips to the west beneath Eurasia. The location, depth, and focal mechanism of the March 11 earthquake are consistent with the event having occurred as thrust faulting associated with subduction along this plate boundary. Note that some authors divide this region into several microplates that together define the relative motions between the larger Pacific, North America and Eurasia plates; these include the Okhotsk and Amur microplates that are respectively part of North America and Eurasia.

The March 11 earthquake was preceded by a series of large foreshocks over the previous two days, beginning on March 9th with an M 7.2 event approximately 40 km from the March 11 earthquake, and continuing with a further 3 earthquakes greater than M 6 on the same day.

The Japan Trench subduction zone has hosted 9 events of magnitude 7 or greater since 1973. The largest of these was an M 7.8 earthquake approximately 230 km to the north of the March 11 event, in December 1994, which caused 3 fatalities and almost 700 injuries. In June of 1978, an M 7.7 earthquake 75 km to the southwest caused 22 fatalities and over 400 injuries. In December of 2008, a sequence of 4 moderate earthquakes (M 5.3-5.8) occurred within 20 km of the March 11 event. In the first 12 hours following the March 11 earthquake, the region has experienced over a dozen aftershocks of M 5 or greater, the largest being M 5.7.
