EJP Critiques 2008 Interview of Jesuit Father Joseph Fessio, 46 Years in the Order

Jesuit Stephen A. Privett, President of the University of San Francisco: In U.S. Congress Indroducing Roman Catholic House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, January 4, 2008

The Following is a critique by your Editor of an interview of Jesuit Father Joseph Fessio residing in San Francisco, California.  It may be reviewed here.

Dear Craig,
To begin with, the interview was poorly done.  There should have been no call-ins allowed.  All questions, including those of the regular listeners, should have been pre-written by the host or hosts so as to obtain straight and simple answers from the Jesuit, and a very accomplished Jesuit at that. (His referring to a Jesuit RCC Bishop in Siberia is most helpful to understanding the Order’s gulag system still in Russia.)  There should have been nothing posed that would have led to the breakdown of the ”interview” that ensued.  Debates are to be limited to specific questions and overseen by a referee enforcing agreed upon rules of debate including time restraints.  If I had been in his shoes, I would have felt insulted by the defensive demeanor of the apparently Bible-believing man that was a co-host.  And I would have been especially offended by the disrespectful diatribe of the Black Coptic American Christian who was rude and condescending in no uncertain terms.  But then again, this is typical Black American protocol when in juxtaposition with Whites, they always asserting their “Black Supremacy” as a matter of, so it seems, ”religious conviction.”
From the content, the interview was given in 2008.  Fessio then had been in the Order for 47, years since 1961.  He never stated that he had taken the “simple Fourth Vow” the Society openly admits to, whereby the Jesuit gives a special promise to do whatsoever the pope commands as admitted by Fessio.  And of course, he denied the real Fourth Vow and for a logical reason.  Fessio obviously has never heard of the Extreme Oath of Induction, correctly recited by not only ex-Jesuit Albert Rivera but by several other ex-priests, and thus was a perfect agent of the Order to address the questions of the hosts.  American J. C. Brownlee, in his reprinted The Secret Instructions of the Jesuits (1857), speaks of these Jesuits who are neither a party to the Extreme Oath nor to the Secret Instructions in his introduction.  He writes on pages 19-21:
“The SECRET INSTRUCTIONS formed a code of the laws of Jesuitism.  They were not allowed to be made known even to many members of a certain class of Jesuits.  They had bold, daring, bad men to achieve desperate deeds, and take off their enemies by steel or bullet, or poisoned chalice.  These knew something that others did not.  The had also disguised agents, men in mask.  These Jesuits knew something not imparted to others of the same order.  They had shrewd, crafty, courteous, and most polished men, who courted nobles, insinuated themselves into the favor of princes, kings, and rich widows, and young heirs and heiresses.  These had their “INSTRUCTIONS” from their general.  They had fine scholars, decent, steady, serious, moral men.  These were not at all let into the secret of CERTAIN INSTRUCTIONS.  They were sent out as traps to captivate the serious, the unsuspecting, the religious.  These had it in charge to give a captivating representation of their Society of Jesus.  These taught that they mingled in no politics, sought no riches, kept strictly their vow of poverty.  Their sole object, was by the help of heaven, to convert the world, and put down Protestantism and all herecies [heresies]!  And in these details these classes of this sect were honest.  For they were not initiated into “the Secret Instructions.”  And hence they could, with an honest conscience, deny, and even swear on the cross, that no such Instructions were ever given, or ever received.  And the initiated Jesuits took special care to push forward these decent, amiable, moral and trustworthy men, to declare to the world that no such rules, and no such maxims as these of THE SECRET INSTRUCTIONS  ever existed among them.  And from the high character of these men, their testimony was of great weight with kings, nobles, and even Protestants.

“This throws light upon the mystery and contradictory statements made by honest Jesuits and historians; and by Protestants.  The profligate, the cunning, the daring, and all similar classes in this motley sect, with their general, and the host of his spies crawling like the frogs, and flying like the locusts of Egypt, over all the land, were fully initiated into the secret of these “Instructions:” and they acted on them, ever day.  Hence the horrid marks of their footsteps of pollution and blood!!!”

Therefore, since Fr. Fessio appears to be one of these class of Jesuits, he was calm, cogent and openly honest with no audible evidence of concealing any secret design of those monsters who rule the Society of Jesus.  He entered and exited the interview with a clear and open presentation, and was completely approachable not stumbling at any question or rivaling statement.  Now as to his stated errors, as a result of his many years of indoctrination and brainwashing, I will name only a few:

1.  The Society of Jesus is not a Military Order.  Clearly the Order is formally called “The Company” of Jesus.  It even has a magazine published in America titled “Company.”

2.  He put the Order in only a good light, the preaching of the Gospel of Jesus, while never adding that his Order was created to “fight and down Protestantism” as stated by Jesuit Thomas Sherman, the son of burn-em-up General T. Sherman.

3.  The Bible is generally “the Bible,” with no significant differences in any English translation.  If so, then why is the epic Reformation English Bible, the AV1611, still on the list of forbidden books by the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, formerly the Holy Office of the Inquisition.  Clearly there are major differences between Bibles. The Order’s Counter Reformation Council of Trent, of which the Jesuits must enforce today, states that the Hebrew and Greek scriptures are not the Scriptures, rather Jerome’s Latin Vulgate is the Scripture.

4.  The AV1611 and the RSV are essentially the same Bible.  This is utter nonsense: for the underlying Greek text of the RSV springing from the secretly compiled, Westcott and Hort Greek text, differs from the Textus Receptus in at least 5,788 places as per the analysis of F. H. A. Scrivener, the only honest man on the English Revision Committee (1871-1881).  The RSV of 1952 is an outwork of this corrupt committee that attacked the AV1611 Bible, the foundation for White Protestant Western Civilization and the White Protestant British Empire.

5.  The Constitutions of the Society of Jesus is a public document; true, but only as a result of the French government of Louis XV forcibly bringing it to light in 1762 during a famous lawsuit.  That manifestation of the diabolical workings of the order led to the expulsion of the Company in 1764, for which France suffered the loss of her king and the ensuing French Revolution.

6.  The Society of Jesus is not the bodyguard of the pope.  Clearly, this is false according to several histories, a few of which are Roman Catholic.  Further, as mandated by Canon Law, the confessor of the pope must always be—a Jesuit!

7.  The Society of Jesus has changed from its original workings.  Nonsense!  The Order enforces its designs via trusted third parties, such entities as the RIIA and the CFR of which the Jesuit knew nothing.  I find this to be deceptive, especially when Fr. Joseph A. O’Hare, former president of Fordham University in the Bronx, is a Presider—as is David Rockefeller—in the CFR.  Fessio’s Jesuit superior at the University of San Francisco is President Stephen A. Privett, a friend of many CFR members including Hillary Clinton and Michelle Obama, knows O’Hare personally.

8.  He speaks of Dominican Thomas Aquinas in a positive light.  Aquinas wrote in his Summa Theologica stating it is no murder to kill a heretic, VAIII quoting the entire text.

9.  He claims to believe in national sovereignties, yet, via Jesuit duplicity, defends the Alien Roman Catholic Mexican Invasion of America under the guise of lawful immigration premised upon economic necessity, failing to state the reason for the poverty of Mexico is the nation’s Roman Catholic religion.  He believes in inter-national socialist-communism, that nations—historic White Protestant nations—do not have the right to financially excel over other nations, nations that are Roman Catholic.  For the vast majority of “immigrants” into the US are from Roman Catholic nations such as Mexico, those in Central America, those in South America, Haiti, Dominican Republic, etc., and these people are then registered into the socialist-communist Democratic Party.

10.  He dares to own Johann Sebastian Bach, the German Lutheran Protestant and greatest composer in world history.  The purpose of the Company is to destroy such men and their works.

11.  He dares to give the impression that the Jesuit Order is not wealthy.  Surely he knows the Order controls the Bank of America founded in San Francisco by an Italian Knight of Malta, Amadeo Giannini, in 1904.  Further, he makes no mention of the Order’s controlling stock in America’s aircraft manufacturers as proven in Avro Manhattan’s The Vatican Billions.

12.  He dares to state that only 3,000 people were put to death during the reign of the Holy Office of the Inquisition.  He states that it existed for only 300 years.  Both are tacitly false, as it is a statement by John Dowling in his The History of Romanism that 50 million were murdered.  According to The Great Apostasy Identical with Papal Rome; Or, An Exposition of the Mystery of Iniquity, and the Doom of Antichrist, by Joseph F. Berg (Philadelphia: J. B. Lippincott & Co., 1842) pp. 139, 167, the Holy Office, from the time of its real inception under the damnable Pope Innocent III in 1207 to its suppression by Napoleon in 1808, 68 Million were murdered.  In this, the Jesuit is a brazen liar, especially when one can traverse Europe and find scores of the Inquisition’s torture chambers especially in France and Germany.

Now let us review questions that any interviewer should ask any guest Jesuit:

1.  Do you uphold the pope’s Spiritual Power, that every person must be subject to the Roman Pontiff?

2.  Do you uphold the pope’s Temporal Power, that every government should be subject to the Roman Pontiff?

3.  Do you believe the doctrines put forth by Jesuit Francisco Suarez justifying regicide?

4.  Is the Society of Jesus a separate entity of the Roman Papacy, since no Jesuit is answerable to any non-Jesuit priest?

5.  Was the Society of Jesus involved in the assassination of French King Henry IV? the attempted assassination of Queen Elizabeth I? the assassination of Abraham Lincoln? the assassination of John F. Kennedy? the assassination of Benito Juarez? the attempted assassination of Otto von Bismarck? the assassination of William of Orange I?

6.  Was the Society of Jesus involved in St. Bartholomew’s Massacre in France (1572)? inciting the Thirty Years’ War (1618-1648); the tyranny of King Charles I that let to the Puritan Revolution (1642-1652)? the French Revolution (1789)? all of which a Jesuit hand can be evidenced?

7.  Does not the Jesuit Superior General commanding the Company of Jesus, in fact, control the pope who in turn controls the entire Roman Papacy thanks to the imposition of “Infallibility” during the First Vatican Council (1870)?

8.  Does not the Jesuit Order seek to rid the world of Muslims and Jews in accordance with the words of Jesuit Francis Xavier as recorded in ex-Jesuit. Dr. E. Boyd Barrett’s Rome Stoops to Conquer (1935) on page 180 that states:

“The spirit of the Order can be gleaned from the extraordinary prayer of the greatest of Jesuit saints, Francis Xavier: ‘Put me some place where there are no Jews or Moslems,’ cried Francis.”

9.  Is the purpose of the Order in attempting to destroy Protestantism and claim Jerusalem for the Order still in effect, as Loyola sought to set up his headquarters in Jerusalem during his presence there in the 1520s?

10.  Did the Jesuit Order perfect the tenets of Socialist-Communism on their 59 Paraguayan Reductions in South America (1609-1759)?

11.  Why did Pope Clement XIV suppress and extinguish the Society of Jesus in 1773?

12.  Was not the French Revolution and Napoleonic Wars a result of the Suppression and Extinction of the Society in 1773?

These are a few of the most important questions.

Lord Bless,

Brother Eric

Aussie twins shoot themselves in suicide pact: sheriff

A sign points towards the Family Shooting Center in Cherry Creek State Park

DENVER, Colorado — Australian identical twin sisters shot themselves on a US shooting range in an attempted joint suicide pact, the local sheriff's office said, after speaking to the surviving woman.

Officials confirmed the suicide theory as the parents of the 29-year-olds reportedly flew from Australia to identify their daughters, whom the local sheriff's office said had been in the western state of Colorado for five weeks.

The double shooting occurred on Monday afternoon at the Cherry Creek State Park in Arapahoe County, east of Denver.

Investigators have "met with the surviving sister, who has confirmed that they had planned to commit suicide together, and did in fact shoot themselves," said a statement by the county sheriff's office.

"Based on the physical evidence collected, the surviving sister's statements, and video surveillance footage from the shooting center, they believe that this incident was indeed a suicide and attempted suicide."

"A reason for the shootings is still unknown even after interviewing the surviving sister for about two hours Thursday," the sheriff's office Captain Louis Perea told AFP.

"We asked that question more than once, and the survivor declined to answer the question," he added.

Giving details of the incident, the sheriff's office said: "One victim was pronounced dead at the scene, the second victim was transported to an area hospital for treatment.

"The women had been staying in the Denver area for approximately five weeks prior to the shootings.

Australian media reports said the women were firing small-caliber guns in the same stall at the Family Shooting Center, when both suddenly collapsed to the ground with bullet wounds to the head.

Investigators here said the guns used were both .22 calibers -- one revolver and one a semi-automatic.

The parents of the twins, who have not been named but were 29 years old according to officials here, are flying to the western US state to identify their daughters, according to Australian media.

Captain Perea said investigators hope to talk with the parents after they arrive in Colorado on Friday afternoon.

"Obviously, our first priority is to positively identify the victims," Perea said, adding that officers would continue to withhold identities until a positive identification is made.

No criminal charges are contemplated as attempted suicide is not a violation in Colorado.

PAUL JAY, SENIOR EDITOR, TRNN: Welcome to The Real News Network. I'm Paul Jay, coming today from Lyme, Connecticut. On November 7, the president of the World Bank, Robert Zoellick, issued a statement calling for the reintroduction of some form of gold standard to establish the value of money. Why now? Now helping us to unravel all of this is Jane D'Arista. She used to be a congressional staffer working for the House Banking Committee. She's now the coordinator of the SAFER project at the PERI institute, which is a group of economists working to come up with financial reform proposals. And she's also the author of this book, The Evolution of US Finance. Volume 1 was a history of the Fed. Thanks for joining us.

JANE D'ARISTA, POLITICAL ECONOMY RESEARCH INSTITUTE: My pleasure. Thank you.

JAY: Is Robert Zoellick's proposal grasping at straws?

D'ARISTA: Well, what you're saying is quite right. The gold standard or gold exchange standard under Bretton Woods was one in which the dollar was backed by gold and the US government offered to sell so many ounces of gold for so many dollars. It got to the point where the amount of US dollars held outside the United States by other people, foreigners, if you will, was so much greater than the gold supply in the US that President Nixon closed the gold window and said, we can't do it anymore, we don't have enough gold.

JAY: Now, what do we make of that decision? In whose interest was that decision?

D'ARISTA: It was considered to be an inevitability, on the one hand, but on the other hand, it had been the—people like Milton Friedman had been pushing for it all along and saying, well, let the market determine the price of the dollar, and therefore go to a fiat system where that market price depended, as you point out, on the value of assets. So, eventually, after some attempts to raise the value—to lower the value of the dollar in relation to gold, by 1973 we were on a floating standard and gold was not backing the dollar.

JAY: Is the underlying problem here sort of more profound than what they're talking about? In other words, is the underlying problem that so much of capital is parasitical, so much of capital is actually not being invested in a productive process? {HORDING:- James 5:3}  It's being either used for speculation or as part of these derivative gambling schemes. And you've described them as Ponzi schemes, that when you have so much of the global capital not involved in the productive process, you wind up creating bubbles that burst, bubbles that burst, and in the end, like we are now with American real estate and other parts of the US economy—and not only the US economy—nobody knows what a house is worth. In fact, nobody knows really what anything's worth, 'cause if the truth of the bank ledgers was known, the whole system would—like, talk about hair on fire. {System running on Deception and lies Jeremiah 17:9}

D'ARISTA: Would collapse. Yes, exactly. So, no, that is really very true. The—it is a parasitical system in the sense—and, of course, I mean, we are—or going into the G-20 meetings, the United States is pretending to an innocence that they should not pretend to {Rev 13:13-15} . The world knows exactly what's going on. When the Federal Reserve's—goes into the quantitative easing 2 that they're going to do, they're going to increase global liquidity. Everybody knows that the US banks—.

JAY: Okay. Just one more time, quickly explain what the Fed's going to be doing here.

D'ARISTA: The Fed is going to go and buy a great many assets, $600 billion worth of long-term assets, in the hopes of removing them from the system so that—.
JAY: From the banking system.

D'ARISTA: Yes, or from the—not only from banks, but from—in any kind of financial institution—insurance companies, mutual funds, whatever.

JAY: Anyone holding Treasury bonds.

D'ARISTA: Anyone holding [inaudible] Right. Companies, the treasuries of GE or whatever. And that's going to put money in their hands to do something with. Now, what we know is the banks are not doing anything productive with it. At the same time that the Fed goes off and buys these government securities, takes them out of the market, and increases liquidity by that fashion—. I mean, if I've taken your security and I've given you money, you need to buy something else. So the idea here is you're going to buy something else that's going to gin up the economy. It's a very nice idea but, it is not working in practice.

JAY: 'Cause what they're doing is a lot of the banks and corporations are going to take the cash and just take it to Brazil and earn more of a spread on the interest.   {Go to a lesser developed country where they can take highly valued US dollars and get more value in purchase or use of it.}

D'ARISTA: Precisely. What they're going to use it for is exactly as you say, for the carry trade. In other words, they're going to take—they're going to be able to borrow short-term funds at a very low interest rate and invest in longer-term funds or higher-yielding (in terms of interest rate) assets in Brazil, Indonesia, etc.  {Exactly}

JAY: Which will cause an inflation in these other countries, and supposedly make their goods more expensive, in theory.

D'ARISTA: Right. It will—what it will cause in these other countries is a rise in the value of their currencies, because those dollars are sold to buy the currencies of the countries in which they're going to invest. That depresses the dollar when they're sold. That raises the rupee or whatever the currency may be that they're buying. And in the process of raising the value of the currency of a given emerging-market economy, you make them uncompetitive—now their goods cost more.

JAY: So it's partly what Zoellick's trying to deal with is the world saying, well, if you, America, can snap your fingers and just create $600 billion of new liquidity, then what's the dollar? Then what is this whole currency system worth? And then he says, oh, okay, now we need to talk about gold. So what's wrong with that idea of going back to some kind of a gold standard?

D'ARISTA: Well, it is not wrong that he's raising the alarm. Many people are. But he's not sophisticated enough in these areas to understand that gold will not work, that gold is produced primarily by two countries, Russia and South Africa. There's not going to be enough. {Huston we have a problem !  He who holds the most of the worlds gold makes the rules ? } How are you going to evaluate who's going to hold it? {Wrong Question who is holding it ? is the question} There are so many questions. You know, is it going to be held by the public sector? Or is it going to be the private sector, in which case it's back to speculation?
JAY: Well, right now it is mostly—.

D'ARISTA: Which we have. Yeah, right.

JAY: There's tremendous speculation in gold now.

D'ARISTA: Exactly. So if you want to do a commodity, I have colleagues who promote the ideas of Nicholas Kaldor, who was a British economist and who wrote very presciently in 1970 that when we went to the fiat dollar standard, that we would be taking a nation of entrepreneurs, i.e. the US, and making us a nation of rentiers, and that—.

JAY: Meaning?

D'ARISTA: Meaning that we would be living off other people. And that we would be an empire like the Roman, featuring bread and circuses to our people. Now, that appeared in The London Times in September of 1971. It was amazing. You could have written it every year since and it would have been true.

JAY: Is there a model that anyone's proposed that takes the valuation of currency out of the world of speculation, in other word, links the amount of money supply and the value of money to how much actually gets produced?

D'ARISTA: Well, theoretically, yes. At the INTERNATINAL  level you would have to take the private financial system out of the game. That is exactly what Keynes proposed. {Removing Private sector means the governments run the show as far as financial control ,but wait it must be coordinated INTERNATIONALLY AS MENTIONED ABOVE} Revelation 13:17,Daniel 11:43 too WOULD APPLY HERE

JAY: I mean, is there any real solution short of that?

D'ARISTA: No.  {The world meaning Ethiopians  Acts 8:27 = rich nations aka 1st world and the Lybians = Lubyms weeping ones according to Strong’s Concordance)  nations  will be at his steps = in sync with or agreement with the global financial take over of the Papacy }see Daniel 11:43}

JAY: So what would that look like?

D'ARISTA: Well, the Keynes proposal, which many people still favor, IS A CENTRAL BANK IF YOU WILL AT THE INTERNATIONAL LEVEL , in which the deficit countries could borrow, everybody puts something in the pot, and deficit countries can borrow, and surplus countries put in their surplus, and everybody pays interest, whether you're surplus or deficit. And the idea is the Keynes idea that was proposed would only work if there are capital controls. In other words, you don't have this free flow of capital. {ONE WOLRD REGULATOR OF BUYING AND SELLING}

JAY: That's really the key, is it not?

D'ARISTA: That's the key. {BOOM}

JAY: I mean, as long—essentially it all comes back to curbing the power of the finance sector and reducing the amount of capital involved in this parasitical part of the economy.

D'ARISTA: Exactly.

JAY: Which means an assertion of public interest through some kind of law, international and domestic.  {Prophecy  is soon to be fulfilled buying and selling controlled at international level by A LAW. What LAW COULD CONTROL BUYING AND SELLING WORLD WIDE? HOW WOULD THIS LAW BE ENFORCED?}
Revelation 13:17 And that no man might buy or sell, save he that had the mark, or the name of the beast, or the number of his name.}

D'ARISTA: Yes, yes, with the mantra that came in in the Nixon administration and right on through the '70s and '80s of the free market, backed constantly with all that money that flowed into the Heritage Foundation and others, that the main message there was let the market decide.
JAY: And the market seems to be deciding to crash the market, which people—which they know how to make money out of, too.

D'ARISTA: Yes.

JAY: Thanks very much for joining us.

D'ARISTA: Thank you.
JAY: And thank you for joining us on The Real News Network.

The hunt is on for a radioactive mouse in the US state of Washington Picture: Greg Adams

TWO weeks after authorities captured a radioactive rabbit in southeast Washington state, the hunt is on for a radioactive mouse.

Radioactive mouse droppings were discovered on the grounds of Hanford, a decommissioned nuclear production complex, the Tri-City Herald reported today.

Hanford workers have set about 60 mouse traps, but the two mice that have been caught were not contaminated.

Workers trapped a radioactive rabbit on November 4 after launching a search when radioactive droppings were discovered.

The mouse and rabbit droppings were found in the same area, leading Washington Closure Hanford - the Department of Energy contractor that is cleaning up an area of Hanford - to believe that the animals ate or drank a common source of radioactive cesium contamination, the Tri-City Herald reported.

The Washington State Department of Health said it does not believe there is any danger to the public.

All of the droppings were found near a building where demolition began approximately six weeks ago. Hanford reactors produced plutonium for the US nuclear weapons program from 1944 to 1987. Workers are now involved in a massive project to clean up the billions of gallons of liquid waste and millions of tons of solid waste created by the transformation of raw uranium into plutonium for bombs, according to Hanford’s website.

Washington Closure has fenced off the area around the building where demolition is taking place and has scented the perimeter with fox urine to help prevent animals from entering the area, according to the Herald.

$13.8m libel payout for naked sleepwalker

$13.8m libel payout for naked sleepwalker

A COMPANY boss who sleepwalked naked into a female colleague's bedroom has been awarded $13.8 million in damages.

The 10 million Euro ($A13.8 million) payout awarded to mining executive Donal Kinsella is the biggest libel award in Ireland's history
He had sued the mining company he worked for over a press release it put out in the aftermath of his late-night wanderings on a company trip to Africa, The Daily Mail reports.

Mr Kinsella's lawyers had told the court how the story had gone round the world and life had been made a misery for the married father of six ever since the 2007 incident.

A jury of seven men and four women returned their record-breaking verdict after three hours of deliberations.

Following the shock announcement, lawyers for mining company Kenmare Resources, headed by managing-director Michael Carvill, applied for an immediate stay on the award, branding it 'off the Richter scale'.

Even the usually unflappable Judge Eamon de Valera appeared to be stunned when the foreman for the 11 jurors handed the written decision to him.

The vastly experienced judge read the note carefully, paused and asked: 'Correct me if I'm mistaken... but you have awarded compensatory damages of €9million ]and aggravated damages of €1million.'

The extra €1million was because the jurors felt that the cross examination of Mr Kinsella by the company's lawyers was too aggressive. They believed barristers were trying too hard to discredit Mr Kinsella.

However, as onlookers exchanged gasps and looks of amazement, the only person in the courtroom who seemed to maintain a calm demeanour was the mining magnate himself.

Afterwards a still calm Mr Kinsella asked the Irish Daily Mail: 'Are you expected to jump up and dance around the place? That feeling hasn't come yet. It'll probably come later. The pall of suspicion that hung over my head for the last three years has been removed. It's a magnificent vindication.'

The jury had unanimously decided that Kenmare's press release - which did not detail the sleepwalking incident - had implied that Mr Kinsella had 'made inappropriate sexual advances to Deirdre Corcoran'.

They also concluded that the statement had been intended either to embarrass or put pressure on him in relation to his position in the company.

Mr Kinsella said: 'I am vindicated. My name is cleared,' adding that he felt elated by the outcome.

Obama Says Social Services Can be Provided in Religious Facilities

By Jennifer Riley|Christian Post Reporter

President Obama signed an executive order Wednesday that made some clarifications on the partnership between the government and faith-based organizations.

In an executive order, the president said the government is required to provide recipients of federally funded social service programs referrals to alternative providers if they object to ones provided by religious organizations, post online the list of entities receiving federal financial assistance for social service programs, and monitor and enforce standards regarding the relationship between religion and government to avoid excessive entanglement.

Perhaps the most interesting part of the order, however, is the approval that allows religious organizations receiving federal money to provide social services in their facilities without removing religious art, icons and scripture. The organizations also can retain religious terms in their name and choose board members based on religion.

Although this order does not address the controversial issue of religious requirements in hiring, it does clarify that board members can be selected on a religious basis.

It also stated that organizations benefiting from federal financial assistance cannot engage in explicitly religious activities during times when providing social services funded by tax dollars.

The clarifications were based on recommendations made by a taskforce of the President’s Advisory Council on Faith-based and Neighborhood Partnerships.

"With this Executive Order, we are strengthening and clarifying the legal footing of the government's relationship with faith-based organizations and underscoring the important role of these organizations in serving individuals, families and communities in need,” remarked Joshua DuBois, executive director of the White House Office of Faith-Based and Neighborhood Partnerships, in a statement.

The order does not make any major changes about qualifications for funding, but clarifies questions on what is expected of the government and faith-based groups once they receive financial assistance.

The National Association of Evangelicals welcomed President Obama's executive order, saying that it puts forth good practices on how the government can work with faith-based organizations.

“Faith-based social service organizations are deeply rooted in our communities and often serve our most vulnerable citizens of all religions and none,” said Galen Carey, NAE’s director of government affairs, in a statement Thursday. “The government is right to partner with faith-based organizations that have expertise in solving community problems, such as hunger, poverty, homelessness and drug addiction. We welcome the President’s order, which builds on policies and good practices developed over three administrations of both political parties.”

On the other hand, Americans United for Separation of Church and State, a church-state watchdog group, said it was “disappointed” in the order because it allowed faith-based groups to display religious signs and scriptures and avoided a clear answer on religious hiring practices.

“I’m disappointed. This leaves much of George W. Bush’s faith-based initiative in place,” said the Rev. Barry W. Lynn, executive director of Americans United, in a statement. “I am particularly frustrated that President Obama still has done nothing to ban hiring bias by publicly funded religious charities.”

“That’s the 800-pound gorilla in the room. No American should be denied a government-funded job because he or she holds the ‘wrong’ views about religion.”

During his presidential campaign, Obama said he would repeal the policy created under former president George W. Secularism and Theological Indifference: A Common Cause

By S. Michael Craven|Christian Post Guest Columnist

This past week, I had the pleasure of once again appearing on Point of View Radio Talk Show with my good friend, Kerby Anderson. As always, Kerby does an outstanding job of analyzing issues from an intelligent Christian worldview. At issue was the apparent lack of biblical “discernment” among Christians. While there are a multitude of contributing factors to the present state of biblical and theological ignorance, secularism has been a major contributing factor.

I find there is much confusion about secularism-what it is as well as its impact and origin. In terms of what secularism is, that depends. For some, secularism asserts the right to be free from religious rule, and the right to freedom from governmental imposition of religion upon the people. In short, they believe the state should not interfere in matters of religious conscience. This would be closer to the intentions of our Founding Fathers, who sought to protect against the shenanigans of former British kings who wantonly declared their divine rights over the church and above the law. Thus secularism in this sense refers to an appropriate division of church and state, with the authority of the state being strictly limited in matters of religious faith and conduct.

However, in the seventeenth century a much more pernicious secularism appeared that emphasized the complete exclusion of religion from every aspect of public life. As to the cause of this shift, the church need not look to anything other than itself. Following the Protestant Reformation of the sixteenth century and the later Catholic Counter-Reformation, Europe was thrown into political, military, and economic upheaval as nations descended into wars of religion over doctrinal and theological disputes. The Thirty Years’ War (1618–48) was both an international religious conflict and a German civil war, involving Lutheran, Reformed, and Catholic regions and nations. In direct response to theological disagreements, these wars were carried out by the unholy convergence of church and state. By 1700, Europeans had had enough. The resulting carnage, social disintegration, and economic hardships would open Europeans to an “age of reason” over and against their religious past. As Alister McGrath, Christian theologian and Oxford scholar, points out, “The scene was set for the Enlightenment insistence that religion was to be a matter of private belief” (McGrath, Christianity’s Dangerous Idea, [HarperOne: New York, NY, 2007]).

In Europe, the sacred–secular split would emerge with the intent being to exclude the sacred from any meaningful contribution to public and political life. Human reason would be divorced from faith and elevated above God as the divine quality within men. Men, without reliance upon God, would attempt to rule themselves through reason, science, and technology-the tools of modernity. Faith, they believed, had failed them and the world in which they lived. Thus God, faith, and the supernatural (in the orthodox Christian sense) would be relegated to the past, articles of antiquity representing the world before the age of reason.

Eventually, these ideas would work their way across the Atlantic. For some like Thomas Jefferson and James Madison, their effect would be less antagonistic to religion-albeit favorable to deism. The deistic movement would maintain an allowance for god and even some measure of religiosity but the belief in a personal God who remains involved in the daily affairs of men and history would dissipate. For others such as Thomas Paine, himself an anti-Christian deist, the Enlightenment would foster a more radical secularism intent upon the absolute exclusion of religion from the public square. It is this form of secularism that confounds the church today.

While the tendency may be to focus on the secularizing effects of the religious wars of the seventeenth century, the church has and, I believe, continues to suffer in another way. The period leading up to and following the Protestant Reformation was among the most contentious in the history of the church. The debate over competing theological and doctrinal interpretations was so intense precisely because they were perceived to be of utmost importance. To the Christians of that day, the accuracy of the Christian faith was at stake. The questions turned on the very nature of God and man, the nature of salvation, and the source of theological authority. These remain significant questions that few today can answer accurately. It was only the manner and form that the debate took which was in error, not the act of inquiry. There was an earnest and thoughtful wrestling with the things of God-things deemed so important that men and women were willing to die rather than concede to what they perceived as error. One may say that doctrine is and has been divisive, but never say that doctrine is unimportant. This would be an affront to those who were martyred in obedience to their doctrinal convictions.

Without intention and despite more than three hundred years having passed since the religious wars, the church remains reluctant, if not indifferent, to discussing theology and doctrine. As a result, theology and doctrine-the foundations of our faith-have taken a backseat in the daily life and practice of the church. Many churches have simply become atheological and proud of it. We have opted for personal and corporate experiences rather than intellectual rigor and discipleship that may contest one’s personal theological notions. I use the term theological rather loosely here. The facts are, many American Christians either don’t know anything related to historic orthodox Christian theology or they have accumulated a collection of inconsistent notions about God that blend various theological positions into one that best suits them. Either way, the contemporary church suffers severely from this lack of understanding.

It is time, once again, for the church to examine and discuss (reasonably and with love) the fundamentals of our faith as defined and delineated in the historic creeds, confessions, theology, and doctrines that have come down to us through the centuries. This holds the possibility for contentiousness, because once we wade into these waters we discover the importance of theology and its implications for faith and practice. However, it doesn’t have to be ugly and we should work in the spirit of unity, in obedience to Christ (see John 17), to truly know Christ, what we believe and why. This is the work to which I am increasingly committed and I pray other church leaders will take seriously the role of doctrine and theology in making disciples. An atheological church is a confused church and this confusion fosters error and compromise.

Groups Urge Obama to Step Up Religious Freedom Advocacy

WASHINGTON – Religious freedom groups are urging the U.S. State Department and President Barack Obama’s Administration to make new efforts to identify the worst violators of religious freedoms and up international advocacy after the release of the Annual Report on International Religious Freedom.

On Wednesday, Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton released the annual report to the press detailing the international religious climate during the period from July 1, 2009, to June 30, 2010.

Of the countries mentioned in the report, unsurprisingly, tensions remained high in Middle Eastern countries as well as in China and Burma.

“We do this because we believe that religious freedom is both a fundamental human right and an essential element to any stable, peaceful, thriving society,” declared Clinton.

However, many groups state the reports, while good, are not enough.

Christian anti-persecution group Open Doors USA’s Advocacy director, Lindsay Vessey, praises the State Department for the release of the religious report.

“We’re the only country in the world that is monitoring religious freedom this extensively. To be able to publish a report every year on every country in the world except for the U.S. is really incredible,” she stated.

But she also noted that the Obama administration does not seem to be making any new efforts to advance religious freedom, including designating the countries of particular concern.

The designations are a crucial step in pushing international governments, through efforts such as diplomatic agreements and sanctions, to institute fundamental religious rights to all.

Vessey is urging the state department to act quickly in deciding the designees. “The designations were last made in January 2009. That means they’re going to expire in January 2011,” she explained.

The administration also needs to nominate an ambassador for international religious freedom, Vessey added.

“If you have your office for international religious freedom yet you don’t have your ambassador for international religious freedom who is the person tasked with carrying out these diplomatic efforts and overseeing the office, I think that sends a signal that this issue is not that important,” she explained.

A confirmation hearing was held Wednesday to discuss nominations for the ambassadorship. The process, however, has not yet been completed.

The U.S. Commission on International Religious Freedom is urging the state department to move forward with the confirmation process and to also take a hard stance on religious freedom in its foreign policy.

“We urge the State Department to follow up with vigorous U.S. diplomatic activity, urging improvements in respect for this fundamental human right,” Leonard Leo, the commission chairman, said in a statement.

Several countries were mentioned in the report have deepening tensions between state-sanctioned religions and religious minorities. Tensions are particularly growing against Christian populations in Muslim countries.

For example, the Egyptian government does not recognize Christianity as an official non-Muslim religious minority. As a result, churches face continual personal and collective discrimination. Muslim converts to Christianity are also arrested, detained and harassed.

In Pakistan, organized violence against Christians in Gojra and Punjab are outlined in the report, along with discriminatory use of the penal codes and blasphemy laws such as in the case of Asia Noreen, a Christian woman arrested and sentenced to death for proclaiming Jesus Christ as her savior.

The report also recognizes terrorist attacks in Iraq, but notes an overall decrease in the level of violence due to “the government be[coming] increasingly successful in restoring security in a generally non-sectarian manner throughout the country.”

The report appears to be at odds with the news of ongoing persecution against the Assyrian Christian population and church bombings. Most recently, on Tuesday, a Christian man and his six-year-old daughter were killed in a car bomb explosion in the Iraqi Northern city of Mosul. According to CNN reports, Mosul is home to a large Christian population.

Prior to that, extremists opened fire and later detonated suicide vests in Our Lady of Salvation, Baghdad’s largest Catholic Church, on Oct. 31. The latest figures show that 68 people were killed in that attack. Four Catholic priests are among the dead.

Carl Moeller, president of Open Doors USA, says Iraqi Christians are “a soft target” because of their adherence to the teachings of Jesus Christ.

“Christians take the line of Jesus to forgive. They don’t have any militias fighting for their rights,” he explained in a taped statement.

Moeller calls on the United States to use their influence to lift up the case of Iraqi Christians. “The United States still has a great deal of influence on what happens in Iraq … we can use our voice to bring more pressure on the Iraq government to stand up for these Christians,” proclaimed Moeller.

Pakistani Christian Sentenced to Death Stunned, Shattered

SHEIKHUPURA, Pakistan (Compass Direct News) – Ashiq Masih, with his stooped posture, frail body and dull yellow eyes, stands in a small compartment in the Sheikhupura District Jail with his three daughters – Sidra, Eesha and Eeshum. The girls are weeping silently.

On the other side of a metal grille is Asia Noreen, the birth mother of two of the girls and the first woman in Pakistan to receive the death sentence on charges of blaspheming Islam’s prophet. Eeshum, 12-years-old and mentally disabled, whines like a baby for her mother, asking her when she will be back.

“I will be back,” she says to her daughters, as they feel their mother’s fingers through the gaps in the grille. “Don’t you worry, now.” But tears run down her face, too.

Arrested on June 19, 2009, Asia (alternatively spelled Aaysa) Noreen was accused of blaspheming Muhammad and defaming Islam. A judge under pressure from area Islamists convicted her under Pakistan’s widely condemned blasphemy statutes on Nov. 8.

“I don’t know why – when I walked into court that day, I just knew,” she said, tears returning to her eyes and her voice shaking. “And when the judge announced my death sentence, I broke down crying and screaming. In the entire year that I have spent in this jail, I have not been asked even once for my statement in court. Not by the lawyers and not by the judge. After this, I have lost hope in any kind of justice being given to me.”

In an interview with Compass at the jail northwest of Lahore, Punjab Province, Noreen said the triggering incident resulted from a “planned conspiracy” to “teach her a lesson,” as villagers in Ittanwali, near Nankana Sahib about 75 kilometers (47 miles) from Lahore, resented her and her family because of a few mishaps.

“What my village people have accused me of is a complete lie,” she said. “I had previously had a row over a trivial issue of water running out of my house onto the street, and a man called Tufail verbally abused me. On June 14, when I was out picking falsas [a type of berry] with about 30 women, they again asked me to convert to Islam.”

Noreen said the women of the village frequently asked her to renounce Christianity while they worked in the fields, and that she refused each time.

“This time, too, I said that I saw no reason why I should leave my own religion,” she said. “They then asked me about Jesus Christ, and I told them to go and ask the local mullah and not to bother me with those questions.”

Meantime, one of the women asked her for water, she said. After she had fetched it, the others told the woman not to drink water brought by an “untouchable” and “dirty woman,” Noreen said.

“I asked them if Christians were not human …why the discrimination?” she said. “This annoyed them, and they started verbally abusing me. We were soon engaged in a heated argument.”

She said that five days later, a mob led by Qari (one who has memorized the Quran) Muhammad Saalim burst upon her after some of the women told him about the incident in the fields. The mob pressured her to admit that she had blasphemed.

“They have been saying that I confessed to my crime, but the fact is that I said I was sorry for any word that I may have said during the argument that may have hurt their feelings,” she said.

Police arrived as they were beating her and took Noreen into custody, where they registered a case under Section 295-C of the blasphemy laws against her based on the complaint of the imam.Continue »
