Fresh produce prices to double or triple following freak freezes – is Earth in a magnetic pole shift?

Natural News

Feb 14, 2011

In an article posted on January 3 of this year, I predicted a rise in food prices resulting from freak weather events (http://www.naturalnews.com/030903_p…). Here’s what I said in that article:

By the end of 2012, I predict significant food supply disruptions in North America, brought about either by radical weather affecting crop yields or perhaps the invasion of disease indirectly caused by the over-use of pesticides or GMOs. The number of people in America struggling to feed themselves and their families will rise along with food prices. …Expect to see food prices climb with alarming speed over the next two years. While food won’t disappear, it will become significantly more expensive, causing more people to shift to subsidized foods (corn, sugar, etc.) which also happen to be some of the worst foods for your health.

Now there’s news from Mexico that the fresh produce normally shipped to U.S. grocery stores has been largely destroyed by the freak cold weather snap that struck the continental United States over the past 10 days. As a result, prices on cucumbers, zucchini, peppers, tomatoes and asparagus are set to double or triple starting right now.

Even worse, it looks like the supply of many of these items will be completely wiped out. You won’t be able to buy them, in other words, at any price!

This is the fallout from the worst freeze event recorded in North America in 60 years. It has affected not just Northern Mexico, but also much of the U.S. Southwest. It also raises the question: Is the food supply further threatened by radical weather events?

A theory of what’s happening

I’m not going to go into all the details here, but from what I’ve been reading and researching about a number of seemingly-unrelated events, some clues that might explain their commonality begin to emerge. It all seems to lead to the theory that this is all being caused by the weakening of the Earth’s magnetic field.

The magnetic field is shifting, you see. It’s in the process of flipping, as it has done many times throughout Earth’s history. As explained onWikipedia(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Geomag…):

“The Earth’s magnetic north pole is drifting from northern Canada towards Siberia with a presently accelerating rate — 10 km per year at the beginning of the 20th century, up to 40 km per year in 2003, and since then has only accelerated.”

I recently wrote about how an airport in Tampa, Florida recently had to renumber its runways to account for the unexpectedly rapid shifts in the Earth’s magnetic poles (http://www.naturalnews.com/030996_b…).

That same story discusses the theory of how the weakening magnetosphere may have allowed high altitude sub-zero air carrying toxic space clouds called Noctilucent clouds to invade the lower atmosphere, causing the sudden death of birds that we’ve been seeing reported across the globe. (This theory, however, does not account for the unexplained deaths of fish.)

The other side effect of this is the introduction of extremely cold temperatures from high altitude (or low orbit) space clouds that could be reaching into the lower atmosphere and spreading from the North Pole down through areas that would normally never see such low temperatures. This may explain the “freak weather” that’s killing the produce and driving food prices through the roof.

How Earth’s magnetosphere impacts your dinner plate

Of course, it’s all just a theory so far, but here’s the theory in a nutshell:

Weakening Earth’s magnetic field (which is what happens during the magnetic pole shift transition) causes extreme cold to break into Earth’s lower atmosphere, which causes freak cold weather events to spread far and wide, which causes the destruction of food crops.

Theoretically, this could even lead to a rapid ice age taking over the planet, almost like something out of a Hollywood movie. Such a scenario would obviously be devastating to the human population across the planet as billions would starve from a lack of food. (That would no doubt fulfill Bill Gates’ mission of reducing the world population, eh? Who needs vaccines when you’ve got sub-zero space clouds?)

The Earth’s magnetosphere, you see, is a vital protective force field that protects life on Earth (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Magnet…). Without the magnetosphere, we would not only be fried by cosmic radiation; Earth’s atmosphere would also be slowly blown away by the solar wind, leaving Earth looking a whole lot like Mars (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Solar_wind).

The magnetosphere is believed to be generated by the Earth’s core. As Wikipedia explains, “The internal field of the Earth (its “main field”) appears to be generated in the Earth’s core by a dynamo process, associated with the circulation of liquid metal in the core, driven by internal heat sources.”

We know from studying lava flows of basalt rock that the Earth’s magnetic field has “flipped” many times in the past. Interestingly, a scientific study published in the journalNatureand entitled“New evidence for extraordinarily rapid change of the geomagnetic field during a reversal”reveals that the Earth’s magnetic field has, in the past, shifted by as much assix degrees in just 24 hours. (http://www.nature.com/nature/journa…)

At that pace, the magnetic poles would be completely reversed in just 30 days.

A magnetic flip isn’t pretty

This NASA page shows an interesting picture of what happens during a “magnetic flip” (http://www.nasa.gov/vision/earth/lo…). It explains:

“Magnetic lines of force near Earth’s surface become twisted and tangled, and magnetic poles pop up in unaccustomed places. A south magnetic pole might emerge over Africa, for instance, or a north pole over Tahiti. Weird. But it’s still a planetary magnetic field, and it still protects us from space radiation and solar storms.”

Thismagnetic pole shift(or “magnetic flip”) could allow extreme cold to abruptly enter the lower atmosphere, perhaps even reaching all the way down to the Earth’s surface. The magnetic field isn’t “clean” and “smooth,” you see. Here’s an image of the current magnetic map of the planet:http://gravmag.ou.edu/mag_earth/mag…

Notice how it has holes in it? It’s not completely smooth and uniform as you might expect. In fact, magnetic “holes” can easily appear and then disappear anywhere on the planet as the flows of metal in the Earth’s core shift around. These holes can last anywhere from a few minutes to a few decades, depending on what’s happening in the planet’s core. During short-lived magnetic turbulence, a particular region on the planet can “lose” its magnetic field (it’s neither North nor South but neutral). This results in a magnetic “gap” that creates a vulnerability. The general consensus is that the greater danger here is exposure to cosmic radiation, but there is also the possibility that freezing cold space clouds may also be influenced by the magnetosphere (or the gaps therein).

That may be some of what we just experienced over the last ten days, in fact: A taste of things yet to come if the magnetic field continues to churn and drift. Imagine a winter where even Mexico freezes, and many areas of Canada maintain temperatures of minus 50 Celsius…

Again, this is just atheoryof what could be happening. A hypothesis. I don’t have any scientific proof that the magnetic pole shift is causing these freak cold weather events. But it’s clearly an area deserving exploration. Because if the cold weather events get worse over the next few years, we could be looking atserious disruptions in thefood supply, the climate and Earth’s ecosystems.

This isn’t being caused by global warming, either. Unless you believe that global warming causes global cooling, of course. Instead, this is being caused by the movement of Earth’s core. Therein lies the bad news: There’s virtually nothing we can do about it. If the Earth’s core wants to shift, it’s going to shift, regardless of what you or I want it to do.

If that’s what’s happening, get out your garden seeds and your cold weather greenhouses. It might be a good time to subscribe to your local CSA and support their farming efforts, too. You’ll need to grow more food to help compensate for the global food failures likely to be brought on by increasingly radical weather.

Get ready for some crazy summer monsoons in the months ahead, too. I predict we’re going to see some cataclysmic flooding in Southeast Asia, followed by deadly droughts somewhere else on the planet. Radical weather has a way of reminding humankind that we’re not so clever after all… and that we need the planet for our survival, but the planet can survive just fine without us around.

Listen up Glenn Beck: “Radical Islam” is a creature of the US military-industrial complex

Terrorist Who Trained London Bombers Was Working For US Government 140211top2

Paul Joseph Watson

Monday, February 14, 2011

While talking heads like Glenn Beck continue to invoke the threat of radical Islam, they habitually ignore the blindingly obvious, that radical Islam is a creature of the US military-industrial complex. Case in point – the terrorist who trained the London bombers was a US informant and has been freed after serving only four and a half years of a possible 70-year sentence.

Citing his “exceptional co-operation,” in working with US authorities, a New York Judge released Mohammed Junaid Babar despite him pleading guilty to five counts of terrorism, an outcome that has, “Raised questions over whether Babar was a US informer at the time he was helping to train the ringleader of the 7 July tube and bus bombings,” reports the London Guardian.

Babar admits to consorting with high level “Al-Qaeda” terrorists, as well as “providing senior members with money and equipment, running weapons.” He also set up a training camp in Pakistan in 2003 where alleged 7/7 ringleader Mohammad Sidique Khan learned bomb-making techniques.

“Graham Foulkes, a magistrate whose 22-year-old son David was killed by Khan at Edgware Road underground station in 2005, said: “People get four and a half years for burglary. They can get more for some road traffic offences. So for an international terrorist who’s directly linked to the death of my son and dozens and dozens of people to get that sentence is just outrageous.”

But Babar’s release makes perfect sense given the fact that he was likely working for US authorities as an informant while training one of the alleged London bombers.

“A remark from the sentencing judge that Babar “began co-operating even before his arrest”, has raised the possibility, supported by other circumstantial evidence obtained by the Guardian, that he may have been an informant for the US government before his detention by the FBI in April 2004,” writes the Guardian’s Shiv Malik, who in a separate article goes into greater depth on how, “Babar may have been working for the US security services while pretending to be a jihadi – allegations that could imply serious failures to prevent the 7 July bombings.”

The Guardian article describes how a top US terrorism lawyer has seen sealed evidence in the case which “suggests Babar could have been working for the US authorities before his arrest in April 2004.”

“Having reviewed the court transcript himself, bereaved father Graham Foulkes said: “There’s a hint from one or two of the sentences [in the transcript] that do strongly suggest [Babar's] co-operation was going well beyond his official arrest. And it looks as if the Americans may well have known in detail what Babar was up to in Pakistan [at the time] and that is a very, very serious matter.”

The fact that Babar has served less than 5 years for playing a crucial role in attacks which killed 52 people and injured hundreds more clearly indicates that he is being rewarded by US authorities for his involvement in the 7/7 bombings.

Lest we forget that the the so-called mastermind behind the 7/7 London bombings, Haroon Rashid Aswat, was a British intelligence asset. Former Justice Dept. prosecutor and terror expert John Loftus revealed that the so called Al-Muhajiroun group, based in London, had formed during the Kosovo crisis, during which fundamentalist muslim leaders (Or what is now referred to as Al-Qaeda) were recruited by MI6 to fight in Kosovo.

The revelations about Babar once again underscore the myopic and ludicrous assertions of people like Glenn Beck, who constantly invoke the threat of radical Islam, particularly in the context of recent events in Egypt, while failing to point out that radical Islam is being fostered and fomented by the US military-industrial complex.

Almost every single major terror plot over the last decade plus blamed on “radical Islam” has had the combined or individual fingerprints of US, British, Canadian and Israeli intelligence agencies and federal law enforcement bodies all over it.

9/11

Every single shred of evidence concerning the alleged 9/11 hijackers points to the fact that they were patsies controlled by informants working for the US government.

The US Special Operations Command’s Able Danger program identified the hijackers and their accomplices long before 9/11, but when the head of the program, Colonel Anthony Shaffer, tried to pass the information on to the 9/11 Commission, he was gagged and slandered and the vital information his team had passed on was ignored and buried.

Curt Weldon, Former U.S. Republican Congressman and senior member of the House Armed Services Committee, documented how the US government tracked the hijackers’ movements before 9/11.

Louai al-Sakka, the man who trained six of the hijackers, was a CIA informant. A number of the other alleged hijackers were trained at US air bases. In the months prior to 9/11, alleged hijackers Khalid Almidhar and Nawaf Alhazmi were renting rooms in a house owned and lived in by an FBI informant.

In a 2002 article entitled The Hijackers We Let Escape, Newsweek’s Michael Isikoff and Daniel Klaidman documented how, “The CIA tracked two suspected terrorists to a Qaeda summit in Malaysia in January 2000, then looked on as they re-entered America and began preparations for September 11.”

The fact that there were numerous Al-Qaeda affiliated terrorists involved in the pre-planning stages of 9/11 is unsurprising given former FBI translator Sibel Edmonds’ testimony that Bin Laden was working for the US right up until the day of 9/11.

On the very morning of 9/11, the money man behind the alleged hijackers, Pakistan’s ISI Chief Mahmoud Ahmad, was meeting with U.S. government and intelligence officials.

Indeed, even after 9/11, the so-called spiritual leader of the very hijackers who allegedly slammed Flight 77 into the Pentagon, Anwar al-Awlaki, was himself invited to dine with Pentagon top brass mere months after the attack.

UNDERWEAR BOMBER

Al-Awlaki was later involved in directing the underwear bomber, who was allowed to board the plane by order of the US State Department aided by a well-dressed man who got Abdulmutallab on the airliner despite the fact that he was on a terror watch list and had no passport. Eyewitness and Delta 253 passenger Kurt Haskell subsequently blew the whistle to state that Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab was given the bomb by the US government to create a pretext for the implementation of naked body scanners and boost the TSA’s budget.

FORT HOOD SHOOTING

Fort Hood shooter Army Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan repeatedly communicated with alleged Al-Qaeda leaders for nearly a year before his rampage. The FBI knew Hasan was sending emails to terrorists, but they did nothing, allowed him to remain on a U.S. Army base, and even invited him to participate in Homeland Security exercises. Hasan was also being handled by US agent Al-Awlaki.

FORT DIX

Lawyers in a case relating to the much vaunted 2007 terror plot to attack Fort Dix and kill “as many soldiers as possible” concluded that FBI informants were the key figures behind the operation and that the accused, six foreign-born Muslims, were merely bungling patsies. US agent Al-Awlaki was again involved in training the would-be terrorists.

TORONTO PLOT

The “Toronto 18″ terrorists turned out to be “a bunch of incompetent guys who were primarily misled by a delusional megalomaniac”. The explosive fertilizer material the terrorist cell apparently planned to use was in fact purchased by an informant working for the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, agents of which had radicalized the group. US agent Al-Awlaki was again involved in the plot.

PORTLAND PLOT

The man accused of attempting to blow up a Christmas tree in Portland’s Pioneer Courthouse Square, Mohamed Osman Mohamud, was a befuddled patsy, groomed and radicalized from start to finish by the FBI as part of a radicalization and entrapment program. Shortly after news of the attempted bombing broke, it emerged that the FBI had provided Mohamud with a fake bomb, van, and cell phone (to be used as a detonator) in the incident, as well as thousands of dollars in cash at every step of the plot.

MUMBAI MASSACRE

The man accused of being the mastermind behind the 2008 Mumbai massacre, David Headley, was a US government informant and was also at one time on the payroll of the Central Intelligence Agency.

SHOE BOMBER

Hundreds of terror suspects have been convicted in civilian federal courts, including convicted shoe bomber Richard Reid who attended the Finsbury Park Mosque in North London. The Finsbury imam at the time was Abu Hamza al-Masri who began working with British Security Services in 1997.

MIAMI PLOT

In the media-lauded Miami terror case in 2007, the supposed ringleader Narseal “Prince Marina” Batiste “had heard of Al-Qaeda, but wasn’t sure what it stood for. The FBI instigators made Batiste swear loyalty to al-Qaida; then had him call on his local buddies to form an ‘Islamic army’ in Miami. None had military training. Some could barely read. But Batiste assured the group in the midst of its collective marijuana buzz of greatness ahead,” wrote Saul Landau.

These were the men who comedian John Stewart referred to as “seven dipshits in a warehouse” after Attorney General Alberto Gonzales had ludicrously told the press that the group of semi-retarded gang-bangers had planned to “wage a ground war against America”.

NEW YORK SYNAGOGUE BOMB PLOT

A group of so-called Muslim terrorists were busted in New York for supposedly planning to blow up synagogues in the Bronx and shoot down military airplanes flying out of the New York Air National Guard base. The men were provided with fake explosives and inactive missiles by an FBI informant, reported the Christian Science Monitor. Two of the ringleaders of the “deadly” plot which was endlessly hyped by the media turned out to be semi-retarded potheads, exactly as we had predicted would be the case due to the innumerable past cases with the exact same modus operandi.

I could go on for pages and pages listing details of ever major terror plot since and indeed before 9/11 that were blamed on “radical Islam” yet in fact turned out to be completely contrived by the FBI, CIA, Canadian or British authorities.

It is a glaring and manifestly provable fact that radical Islam is being manufactured and provoked by the US military-industrial complex in order to provide itself with an enemy to justify billions every year in weapons sales along with giant federal government slush funds that enrich the coffers of public-private partnerships while crushing the constitutional rights of American citizens.

Glenn Beck is completely accurate when he says that radical Islam represents a direct threat to the future of freedom in the west. The ultimate “clash of civilizations” is a very real possibility. But by deliberately obscuring the fact that radical Islam is a creature of the US military-industrial complex, a bastard child of the new world order that is being strengthened by our own governments to be used as a weapon against us, Beck and others who regurgitate the same rhetoric are misleading Americans into thinking that radical Islam itself is the new world order, when in fact radical Islam is merely a tool of the new world order, being from its very inception completely owned and controlled by the US military-industrial complex.

Report: Gas company paid for Pennsylvania senator's Super Bowl trip

The Associated Press
PHILADELPHIA—An energy company drilling in Pennsylvania's gas-rich Marcellus Shale paid for a top state senator's trip to see the Pittsburgh Steelers play in the Super Bowl in Texas, a newspaper reported Sunday.

Senate President Pro Tempore Joe Scarnati, R-Jefferson, had his ticket, plane ride and hotel bill paid for by Consol Energy, Inc., one of Scarnati's top aides told The Philadelphia Inquirer.

The free trip is permitted under Pennsylvania's ethics rules, Drew Crompton, Scarnati's legal counsel and chief of staff, told the newspaper. Scarnati might reimburse Consol for some of the costs, Crompton said.

According to state records, Consol executives and lobbyists have contributed more than $15,000 to Scarnati's campaigns since 2006. The Inquirer reported that it's not known whether Consol paid for any other legislators to attend last Sunday's game in Arlington, Texas, a contest in which the Green Bay Packers beat the Steelers, 31-25.

In a statement, Canonsburg, Pa.-based Consol said it "had several guests join us at the Super Bowl," and noted that the expenses would be reported on its next lobbying disclosure report. The company did not identify the other guests.

Under Pennsylvania law, legislators are allowed to accept such tickets and travel as long as they report everything above a $650 annual threshold.

"There's nothing illegal about it, but it does show the undue influence industry has over elected officials," said Jan Jarrett, president of Citizens for Pennsylvania's Future, an environmental advocacy organization that has pushed for taxes and tighter regulations on natural-gas drilling.

"It really creates an uneven playing field between those who've got the resources to buy that kind of influence and those who don't," she said.

Other Pennsylvania legislators, including Sen. Dominic Pileggi, R-Delaware, went to the Super Bowl as guests of the Steelers.

Asked by The Inquirer if the trip would affect Scarnati's decisions on natural-gas policy, Crompton said it would not.

"Sen. Scarnati has taken positions that are adverse to shale companies, and nothing in his mind has changed," he said. "He does not toe the line of these companies. His independence speaks for itself."

Consol Energy expanded its Marcellus presence last year with the $3.5 billion acquisition of the natural-gas operations of Dominion Resources Inc., including 1.46 million acres of gas leases and 9,000 operating wells.

Barry Kauffman, executive director of Common Cause Pennsylvania, said legislators in some other states aren't allowed to accept free travel or gifts, and that his group has been pushing for such rules in the Keystone State.

"Under no circumstances should he be allowing someone to pay for his trip if they're lobbying the Legislature," Kauffman said. "It just doesn't look good.

Syrian woman blogger Tal al-Mallouhi has been sentenced to five years in prison by a state security court, the Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said in a statement on Monday.

“The state security court in Damascus today condemned blogger Tal al-Mallouhi to five years in prison after finding her guilty of divulging information to a foreign country,” it said in a statement received in Nicosia.

Mallouhi, a 19-year-old high school student, had been accused of spying for the United States embassy in Cairo, a charge denied by Washington which called for her “immediate release” on Saturday.

Raw Story

The Atlanta police force will no longer tangle with citizens who videotape their actions in public, according to a recent settlement between citizen activists and the city.

“We commend the city for resolving a long-standing problem of police interfering with citizens who monitor police activity,” Gerry Weber and Dan Grossman, the lawyers for the activists, told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution Thursday.

The settlement involved Marlon Kautz, a 27-year-old volunteer with a group that films police activities called Copwatch. Two officers, upon taking his camera phone, told Kautz last year he was not allowed to record them making arrests after a raid of a local business. The police later returned his device without the pictures.

“The APD has shown time and time again that they do not want the public to see what they’re doing,” Vincent Castillenti, Copwatch organizer, said in an advisory.

PFA order against local judge

Daily Record/Sunday News

Judge Thomas H. Kelley VI (Daily Record/Sunday News - File)
A York County judge has denied he caused any injury to an assistant public defender with whom he had a relationship.

Janan M.E. Tallo was granted a temporary protection-from-abuse order against Judge Thomas H. Kelley VI Monday during a video hearing with Adams County Judge Thomas R. Campbell.

Tallo requested that the hearing be closed to the media. Campbell denied the request.

A hearing for a permanent order is to be held in Adams County within 10 days.

Tallo, 30, of Hellam, alleges that, during an argument, Kelley, 47, of York Township, picked her up and slammed her to the floor of his home, breaking her right elbow.

Suzanne Smith, Tallo's attorney, told Campbell they were seeking the PFA order - a no-contact order -

Click here to read the Petition for Protection From Abuse
because Tallo and Kelley both work in the York County Judicial Center.

Kelley was not required to be present for Monday's hearing but should appear at the Adams County hearing, York County PFA coordinator Norma Lopez said.

Kelley was not required to be present for Monday's hearing but should appear at the Adams County hearing, York County PFA coordinator Norma Lopez said.

At this stage of the process, a judge does not hear from the person who is accused.

President Judge Stephen P. Linebaugh said Kelley had previously informed him that he and Tallo "had some type of relationship." In her PFA request, Tallo checked the box that said she is a "current or former sexual or intimate partner" of Kelley.

Kelley's attorney,

Christopher Ferro, released a statement Monday afternoon on the judge's behalf.

"We categorically deny the unfounded and false allegations that are contained in the recently filed, one-sided PFA petition," the statement said.

"Judge Kelley has too much respect for the judicial process, however, to address these baseless allegations in the media. We prefer to address the matters in the proper forum and in an appropriate manner.

"We believe that once the true facts are brought to light, the Judge will be cleared of all wrongdoing. Judge Kelley is a great public servant who deserves nothing more than the benefit of the doubt and nothing less than, the all too quickly forgotten, presumption of innocence."

Ferro declined further comment.

Linebaugh said he spoke with Kelley several times Monday and informed him he would be taken off all criminal cases. Kelley is one of four full-time judges to preside over the county's criminal cases.

Linebaugh explained the purpose is to not have Kelley ruling on any cases being represented by the public defender's office.

He said at this point it would be "too monumental of a task" to comb through Kelley's cases to determine which ones are represented by public defenders. Linebaugh said he is in the process of transferring Kelley's cases to other judges.

He said it may require bringing in another judge to help with the caseload.

As of now, Linebaugh said, Kelley remains a judge and will continue working on other matters.

He said Kelley has a number of cases on which he needs to research, write and issue opinions.

Linebaugh said he not aware if the allegations could result in censure or discipline by the Pennsylvania State Disciplinary Board.

"Other than reading the allegations in the petition, there is really nothing more than that - allegations," he said. "As in all cases, there are two sides to every story.

"If he is found to have done the things that are alleged, I expect the judicial disciplinary board would then have to determine if there has been any violation of the canons of judicial ethics."

At Monday's hearing, Smith asked Campbell to order Kelley to surrender any firearms he owns. Smith said she was unaware if Kelley owns any firearms.

In Tallo's PFA application, she stated that Kelley has a handgun and a rifle.

AT A GLANCE

The allegations: York County assistant public defender Janan M.E. Tallo alleges that, about 11:30 p.m. Feb. 8, Judge Thomas H. Kelley VI began an argument with her over the phone. She drove to his York Township home, and he invited her in. Kelley continued to yell at her, and the argument escalated. Kelley then grabbed Tallo, who was seated, by her coat, lifted her off the ground and slammed her to the floor. Tallo said she landed on her back and arms, resulting in a broken right elbow and bruises on her back, thighs and arms. She went to a local emergency room to be treated. Also, in November, Tallo alleged that Kelley grabbed her arm during an argument, according to the temporary protection-from-abuse.

The latest: An Adams County judge granted Tallo a temporary protection-from-abuse order Monday afternoon. Through his attorney, Kelley denied the allegations. York County President Judge Stephen P. Linebaugh said he has reassigned Kelley's criminal cases to other judges to preclude Tallo's fellow public defenders from appearing in front of Kelley. Linebaugh said Kelley had previously informed him he and Tallo were in a "relationship."

What's next: A hearing for a permanent one-year PFA order will be held within 10 days in Adams County.

'Gay conservative' is oxymoron

'Gay conservative' is oxymoron
Star Parker - Syndicated Columnist

Star Parkercolumnists archives buttonCPAC, the Conservative Political Action Conference, has been an annual gig for me for years. But this year I concluded it was not my place and I declined to participate in the various venues at the event for which I was invited.

Yes, the reason I declined was the inclusion of GOProud, a group identifying itself as representing "gay conservatives and their allies," as a sponsor of the event.

And it's the reason why some of the nation's most important conservative organizations -- the Heritage Foundation, the American Family Association, Concerned Women of America, Family Research Council, Media Research Center, and the National Organization for Marriage -- did not participate.

The founder and chairman of GOProud removed any doubt on my part that not participating was the correct decision by dismissing these groups as "losers," "clowns," and "not relevant."

I, of course, have been accused of being worse than a clown. The barrage regularly comes in from the left. But this is a first that I've had to listen to this kind of stuff from a group that postures as "conservative."

I became a conservative in church. I thought I was doing okay in my previous life -- scamming the welfare system, going to the beach, soaking in my welfare-subsidized hot tub, treating sex as a hobby, and abortion as birth control.

In our culture today that views material prosperity as the ultimate barometer of success, the truth is becoming unfortunately lost that the evil man can prosper. And if there is nothing more than what is before our eyes in this world, what does it matter?

When I understood how the culture of welfare state materialism was destroying not just my life, but also all of black America, there was no dividing line in my mind between "social issues" and "economic issues." The only dividing line I saw was between right and wrong, good and evil.

The idea of "gay conservative" is an oxymoron.

"Gay" is everything that "conservative" is not.

The foundation of the worldview that so-called "gay conservatives" embrace has far more in common with liberalism than with conservatism.

It's a worldview that is man-centered rather than God-centered. It is a worldview that rejects eternal truths passed on from the beginning of time. Although the worldview that "gay conservatives" choose to invent may diverge from the worldview of liberals, their common ground is they make it all up.

And it is here where "gay conservatives" and "liberals" fundamentally depart from conservatives.

Conservatives believe that there are objective and eternal truths, not of the product of any individual human mind, that are transmitted through the generations. Culture is not like HDTV or iPhones where the newest model is the best.

These eternal truths provide the light in the fog that keeps us from crashing on the rocky shores where our base instincts lead us.

"Gay" is liberal, not conservative, regardless of what their stand may be on government spending or taxes.

It's why, like all liberals, they use language to create reality, rather than appreciate that words have meaning that reflect reality.

So they have re-invented the word "gay," re-invented the word "marriage", and now they want to re-invent the word "conservative."

Finally, we will re-invent the word "freedom" and we'll put the final stamp on the idea that a free society, rather than being the path to truth, is the path to meaninglessness.

What individuals choose in private, and for which they bear personal responsibility, is separate from what we sanction publicly for which we all must bear responsibility.

A value-neutral government is impossible. The central battle in our country today is about values and how we understand freedom. It is a battle for our very soul. And, as we learned from CPAC, it's not a struggle that is just between Democrats and Republicans.

Dolan denies hiding $130 million from victims of abuse

"Dolan said a portion of the disputed money went to help several parishes."

Here is the rub. The diocese gave this money to parishes so the diocese could avoid paying victims of abuse. To add insult to injury the diocese then proceeds to declare bankruptcy. One can see how the dumbest prosecutor would see that he has a real strong case here. It will be very interesting to see the breakdown of that money and what necessity it covered in the chosen parishes. And who were the pastors and other persona involved. Dolan inherited a diocese (NY) which is notorius for its lack of transparency. Seem Rome knew who to choose to succeed the arrogant Egan.

Is a Catholic College Really Catholic? Is Baylor Really Baptist?

Manhattan College claims to be a Catholic institution, and the Archdiocese of New York lists the school as a Catholic college. Nevertheless, all this has not impressed the National Labor Relations Board, which recently ruled that the college could not prevent adjunct faculty from unionizing because, as G. Jeffrey MacDonald of Religion News Service reports, “the school’s core purpose isn’t religious enough to trigger a labor law exemption.”

Isn’t religious enough? Manhattan College does not require its faculty to profess Catholicism. Actually, it is unclear just how the school functions as a Catholic institution. As the NLRB found, the college’s “stated purpose does not involve the propagation of a religious faith, teachers are not required to adhere to or promote religious tenets, (and) a religious order does not exercise control over hiring, firing, or day-to-day operations.”

That finding — that faculty “are not required to adhere to or promote religious tenets” — seems particularly important.

Michael Broyde, a church-state expert at Emory University, told MacDonald, “There are more and more — particularly Catholic institutions — that are broadening their missions profoundly so that you’ll have an institution where neither the students nor the faculty are Catholic.”

Meanwhile, The Baptist Standard reports that the board of regents of Baylor University “voted Feb. 11 to amend the university’s bylaws, allowing members who are active in Christian—but not Baptist—churches to comprise up to 25 percent of the board.” Even as that announcement drew protests from the Baptist General Convention of Texas, the explanation offered by Dary Stone of Dallas, regent chairman, is even more revealing.

As Marv Knox, editor of The Baptist Standard reported: “Changing our governance is in great part an accommodation to obvious demographic changes in church labels and affiliation,” he said. For example, the composition of the freshman class is slightly less than one-third Baptist, and the majority of the overall student body is non-Baptist. I wonder how many Texas Baptists knew that the student body of Baylor reflected such a minority status for Baptists?

The secularization of religious colleges and universities is now an old story, but it does have interesting new developments. Though no one should celebrate a government entity acting to classify colleges according to relative religiosity, the government must be able to detect something legitimately religious about a religious college or university that claims religious exemptions. The bare fact that an institution was founded by a religious group can be totally irrelevant to the way the school now operates. The American landscape is littered with institutions that were once distinctively Christian, but certainly are no longer.

This paragraph from the RNS report is particularly interesting:

Religious colleges are being warned, observers say, to show their core purpose is to “propagate religious faith” or else be treated as a secular enterprise. That could pose a special problem for liberal religious organizations, which seldom require students and faculty to endorse specific creeds or doctrines.

I couldn’t have said it better myself.
