C4L: Does the Government Want to Detain You?

Campaign for Liberty

Update - As I was getting ready to send you the below email, news broke that the Obama administration has been collecting data on the phone calls of millions of innocent Americans.

Add this further proof of an out-of-control federal government to what we've already seen with the NDAA (more info below), and it's clear you and I must raise our voices NOW.

Please sign your Repeal Section 1021 Fax Petition today (see below for link) and give what you can to help C4L fight not only the NDAA's indefinite detention provision, but the federal government's other MASSIVE intrusions into our lives
.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
We all know the Supreme Court, Congress, and the President make mistakes.

ObamaCare's "Individual Mandate," anyone?

Next week, you and I have an opportunity to overturn one of the most dangerous mistakes Congress, the President, and the Supreme Court have ever made.

Which is why I need you to sign your Repeal Section 1021 Fax Petition right away!

Let me explain...

You see, in 1944, the Supreme Court upheld the supposed "constitutionality" of Franklin D. Roosevelt's Executive Order 9066, which led to the internment of Japanese-Americans in prison camps throughout WWII.

Despite the passage of the "Civil Liberties Act of 1988," the Korematsu and Hirabayashi decisions are still on the books.

In 1992, when Congress passed amendments to the Act, then-President George H.W. Bush said, "The internment of Americans of Japanese ancestry was a great injustice, and it will never be repeated."

Or will it...?

Congress has reopened this scar in our nations' past by codifying into law Presidential authority to detain Americans as long as they want.

Specifically, Section 1021 of the FY 2012 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) allows American citizens to be detained indefinitely - without due process - until the "War on Terror" is declared over.

But, as politicians of both parties are forever reminding us, the "War on Terror" may never be over.

An amendment intended to curtail the blatantly unconstitutional indefinite detention provision was adopted to the FY 2013 NDAA in the Senate - before being stripped out by the John McCain-led Conference Committee.

Their goal was to ensure the President could secretly target American citizens and throw them in jail for years or even decades without so much as ever giving them a trial!

Next week, the full House will take up the FY 2014 NDAA, and it's up to us to make sure it repeals Section 1021 of the FY 2012 NDAA.

That's why it's so urgent you sign your "Repeal Section 1021" Fax Petition to Congress right away!

This petition urges your representative to support any amendment that will prevent the indefinite detention of American citizens and to vote against any defense authorization bill that doesn't repeal this abuse of power!

Representative Thomas Massie and others have assured us they are doing what they can to bring an amendment to the floor, but if it gets there, your representative needs to know how to vote.

That's why Congress needs to hear from you immediately.

After failing to adopt amendments to repeal Sec. 1021 of the FY 2012 NDAA, the government still has the authority to indefinitely detain anyone the government accuses of "supporting terrorism."

Remember, not too long ago, it was C4L members who were listed in a Missouri Fusion Center report, later referred to as the MIAC report, as "domestic extremists" to be watched.

And it wasn't just C4L members on that list, but people displaying third party logos and bumper stickers - and, specifically, supporters of Ron Paul.

In the past, everyone from gun owners, to pro-lifers, to tea partiers have been labeled "terrorists" by their political opponents.

This is why it's critical Section 1021 be repealed.

In a signing statement, the President assured Americans he wouldn't use this power.

But after all that's happened with this administration lately, I'm not sure Americans can ever take this President at his word again.

Even if this President doesn't use such authority, what about the next? And the one after that?

You and I must take a stand and make our voices heard.

So please sign your Repeal Section 1021 Fax Petition right away.

After you've signed your petition, I hope you'll contribute whatever you can to help C4L reach millions of more Americans about the dangers contained in the NDAA.

Ultimately, I'd love to flood Capitol Hill with fax petitions from outraged constituents all across the country.

But C4L can only take as much action as our members' continued support allows.

So please sign your Repeal Section 1021 Fax Petition and make your most generous contribution today to help C4L recruit grassroots reinforcements on this issue!

In Liberty,

John Tate
President

P.S. Next week, the full House will take up the FY 2014 NDAA, and it's up to us to make sure they repeal Section 1021 of the FY 2012 NDAA.

That's why it's so urgent you sign your "Repeal Section 1021" Fax Petition to Congress right away!

This petition urges your representative to support any amendment that will prevent the indefinite detention of American citizens and to vote against any defense authorization bill that doesn't repeal this abuse of power!

After you've signed your petition, please chip in $10 or even $20 to help Campaign for Liberty turn up the heat on Congress and prevent the indefinite detention of American citizens.

Gun-runner to head ATF?

Barack Obama and Eric Holder want to slap gun owners in the face again, but this time they’re hoping you aren’t paying attention.

With tens of thousands of “Fast & Furious” documents still being withheld and an Attorney General who’s been held in contempt of Congress . . .

. . . Barack Obama’s hand-picked nominee to be permanent head of the ATF may have played a key role in protecting those involved in the scandal since becoming acting director in 2011.

B. Todd Jones was scheduled to have a Senate Judiciary hearing this week, but as more information leaked about his actions related to “Fast & Furious” and other chilling accounts of retaliation against whistle-blowers, the hearing was postponed until next week.

That’s why -- after you read the email below -- I’m asking you to call your U.S. Senators and ask them to OPPOSE his nomination TODAY!

And, if you are from a state represented by one of the following Republicans on the Senate Judiciary Committee, make sure you INSIST they vote AGAINST B. Todd Jones’ confirmation in committee:

Sen. Grassley (IA), Sen. Hatch (UT), Sen. Sessions (AL), Sen. Graham (AL), Sen. Cornyn (TX), Sen. Lee (UT), Sen. Cruz (TX), Sen. Flake (AZ).

What’s come to light about B. Todd Jones’ past appears to be just the tip of the iceberg.

Right now, he’s under investigation by the Office of Special Council for his actions while serving as U.S. Attorney in Minnesota in 2009.

The first complaint filed by an assistant U.S. Attorney alleges “that personnel actions, including a suspension and a lower performance appraisal, were taken [by Jones] in retaliation for protected whistle-blowing or other protected activity.”

The second complaint alleges “gross mismanagement and abuses of authority in the Narcotics and Violent Crime Section of the U.S. Attorney’s Office, District of Minnesota.”

In the fall of 2011, during the initial fallout from the “Fast & Furious” scandal, Obama named Jones acting director of the ATF, replacing Kenneth Melson, who wasn’t fired, rather, “reassigned” to another area within the Justice Department.

Instead of cleaning house at the ATF since his arrival in 2011, Jones has:
*** Stonewalled Congressional inquiries into the scandal, failed to FIRE all individuals involved and made no substantive changes within the ATF to make sure scandals like “Fast & Furious” don’t happen again;
*** Refused to commend “Fast & Furious” whistle-blowers despite their being cleared of wrongdoing by Congressional investigators;
*** Kenneth Melson, the former acting director of the ATF, was given a special waiver so that he could take a lucrative job with J.P. Morgan, all the while keeping his ATF job in order to receive a higher government pension;
*** Been caught on tape threatening whistle-blowers who dare to speak with reporters or Congress about the “Fast & Furious” scandal.
As each day passes, more information comes out about B. Todd Jones’ hostility to whistle-blowers and his lack of interest in holding those responsible for “Fast & Furious” accountable.

That’s why it’s vital you call your U.S. Senators at once. INSIST they OPPOSE B. Todd Jones’ nomination to be permanent director of the ATF:

Sen. Bob Casey: (202) 224-6324

Sen. Patrick Toomey: (202) 224-4254

And, if you are from a state represented by Sen. Grassley (IA), Sen. Hatch (UT), Sen. Sessions (AL), Sen. Graham (AL), Sen. Cornyn (TX), Sen. Lee (UT), Sen. Cruz (TX) or Sen. Flake (AZ), make sure you INSIST they vote AGAINST B. Todd Jones’ confirmation in the Senate Judiciary Committee.

Thanks -- in advance -- for taking action.

For Freedom,

Dudley Brown
Executive Vice President

P.S. Barack Obama’s hand-picked nominee to head the ATF has a long history of intimidating whistle-blowers.

As acting director of the ATF, he’s even refused to fire anyone responsible for the “Fast & Furious” scandal.

That’s why it’s vital you call your U.S. Senators at once. INSIST they OPPOSE B. Todd Jones’ nomination to be permanent director of the ATF:

Sen. Bob Casey: (202) 224-6324

Sen. Patrick Toomey: (202) 224-4254

After you make your calls, please consider chipping in $5 or $10 to help NAGR alert more gun owners about this dangerous anti-gun nomination.
