Mark Kelly’s ‘AR-15 Stunt’ Provokes Giffords Photo Leak
(Breitbart) – Mark Kelly’s campaign against “assault weapons” such as the AR-15 rifle has sparked a local backlash. On March 13, a Tucson, Arizona radio host published a photograph of former Congresswoman Gabby Giffords holding an AR-15 rifle at a gun range. Giffords has since confirmed that the photograph is authentic.
James T. Harris, blogging at the website of “101.4 FM The Truth,” wrote:
What is wrong with this picture? Absolutely nothing, and prior to the aggressive progressive opportunistic fear mongering in the wake of Sandy Hook, this picture would have raised no eyebrows and garnered little public attention.
However, in response to the exploitative political scheming of Mark Kelly, persons connected to Congresswoman Giffords released this photo in response to what they perceived to be her husband’s hypocrisy.
Subsequently, Breitbart News confirmed the authenticity of the image through law enforcement sources in Arizona, and obtained a copy of the photograph from a source who requested anonymity.
The latter source was present when the photograph was taken, and said that Giffords had requested it for campaign purposes during October 2010.
According to the source, the image sent to Breitbart News was cropped to protect the identity of the person on the right-hand side of the original photograph (to Giffords’s left).
The source, who is a member of the law enforcement community, told Breitbart News:
“We were told she wanted to toughen her image. She asked to come out and she wanted to shoot a rifle. She had one of our guys out there to show her how to shoot an AR-15.”
In January 2011, Giffords suffered near-fatal wounds in a mass shooting while meeting with constituents in Tucson. The perpetrator used a 9mm Glock 19 semi-automatic pistol.
Giffords and husband Mark Kelly have since formed an organization, Americans for Responsible Solutions, to press for policy changes such as limiting the sale of “assault weapons, ” including the AR-15.
Breitbart News reported last week that Kelly attempted to purchase an AR-15 from a gun store in Tucson earlier this month.
Likewise, the AR-15 that Giffords is shown holding in the image is a standard, semi-automatic civilian weapon, according to the source who saw it being taken.
The source saw a campaign official take the photograph, which was later provided to law enforcement personnel as a courtesy, according to the source.
The source says the existence of the photograph has been known in the local law enforcement community for a while: “I’m not the only one who knows about this photo.”
Multiple law enforcement sources in Arizona told Breitbart News that Mark Kelly’s campaign against “assault weapons” has generated resentment within the law enforcement community–and a desire that the photograph be made public.
The source who witnessed the photograph put it this way:
“Giffords and Kelly came across with a different demeanor in 2010. To me, it seems like they’ve done a complete 180 because of what happened. And with the latest controversy–with Mark Kelly doing what he did with the AR-15 stunt–this photo needs to be put out.”
While Kelly declined to comment, Americans for Responsible Solutions spokesperson Jen Bluestein told Breitbart News: “Looks like the photo is cropped.”
Bluestein noted that there are “many images of Gabrielle Giffords with guns,” though she said she had not seen the image of the AR-15 before.
At 1:14 p.m. PDT, Giffords posted two images on her Facebook page with the following statement:
Here are two photos of me that a conservative blog has dug up. I remember both of these days fondly.
The first is at the Tucson Police Department firing range. They invited me to test rifles and tasers that they bought with federal funds, which I helped secure. The second was in Afghanistan while I was visiting with our troops serving abroad. My work as Southern Arizona’s Congresswoman frequently put me in close contact with some of the world’s most powerful and deadly weapons – supporting police departments, advocating for the Border Patrol, standing up for our troops in Iraq and Afghanistan, and supporting my constituents’ and my own Second Amendment rights.
I grew up with guns, and I like owning them. So does my husband Mark. It’s an interest we’ve shared ever since we met. It’s part of my heritage as an Arizonan and it’s my right as an American. Being able to shoot a gun is something I haven’t been able to do since I was shot – because my right arm is paralyzed, and I’m less mobile than I was.
As I member of the House Armed Services Committee, I proudly spent a lot of time with our military, border patrol and state and local law enforcement. I guess the intention of those who have publicized these photos is to somehow call into question my belief that military style assault weapons should be more strongly regulated with background checks and other safeguards. I have never wavered in my support for those who serve our country. I fought to make sure they have the weapons and safety gear needed to carry out their mission, and proper health and mental care when their service ends.
Both sides of the gun violence debate usually miss the point. We don’t have to choose between owning, using, and enjoying guns, on one hand, and preventing gun violence, on the other. Both sides need to come together to support commonsense solutions to gun violence, like keeping guns out of the hands of dangerous people like the young man who shot me. That’s why I’m fighting this fight.
That’s why I’m working to bring people together to support gun rights and reduce gun violence. I hope you join me.

Is “Evangelical“ Catholicism Really Evangelical?
A new book being reviewed by Christianity Today magazine is
entitled, "Evangelical Catholicism: Deep Reform in the 21st-Century
Church," by George Weigel. The book is reviewed by Brantly Millegan who
claims to have been raised in an "evangelical, Protestant home," and
"joined the Catholic Church during his senior year at Wheaton College."
According to Millegan, "Weigel argues the Catholic
Church, since
the 19th century, has been reorienting herself ever so slowly from
'Counter-
Reformation Catholicism' toward a confident, outward-looking,
gospel-proclaiming, mission driven faith. Which is to say, toward
something distinctly evangelical."
How sad that there is so much wrong with this picture. The central
problem is the claim that Roman Catholicism is "gospel proclaiming." The
Apostle Paul marvels that the Galatians have been "so soon removed...
unto another gospel," (1:6).
Anyone who carefully compares the pope's "gospel" with Paul's gospel
can only conclude that it is "another gospel;" one of a ritualistic
working towards salvation and trust in the "church" instead of faith in
Jesus, alone.
It is true that the Catholic Church has been
"reorienting herself" since the 19th century and accelerated by Vatican
II Council. However, as Weigel points out in his book, true Catholic
reform comes, not from rejecting unbiblical tradition, but "from a
rededication to the teachings of the Church and a reinvigoration of
authentic Catholic practice."
It appears from the content of this book and the context of its
presentation, that American "evangelicals" have bought the lie that the
tiger has changed its spots.
How is it possible that they have forgotten the history
of the reformation where tens of millions died in the "counter
reformation" as the pope defended his devilish teachings of a wafer god,
Virgin Mary goddess, free passes out of purgatory, the pope as usurper
of Christ's authority on earth through "apostolic succession, priests
forbidden to marry, and salvation by works that could only be obtained
through the blessing of the "church?" And this so-called "reorientation"
did not involve any changes to their unbiblical "other gospel."
So, what did they change?
Tactics.
The
purpose of the counter reformation, (better known as the Inquisition),
was to get back control of the true word of God, the Bible. During the
dark ages, few could read and Rome kept the Bible in Latin. Ignorance
and superstition reigned. When the Reformation leaders used the new
Gutenberg printing press to get the Bible to the common man, Rome lost
control.
Since this prostitute "church" always takes the long
view they settled on two tactics. Instead of the poison of the stake and
sword, they would use the honey of ecumenism. And instead of burning
bibles, they would set out to pollute them. Chick Publications has
covered extensively the success of the polluted Alexandrian, Westcott
and Hort3:20 PM 3/15/2013-based "modern" bibles. (See Daniels, Did the Catholic Church Give Us the Bible?, Look What's Missing, and Babylon Religion.)
This book by Weigel, promoted by Christianity Today,
and lauded by a "Protestant evangelical turned Catholic," is supreme
testimony to the success of ecumenism.
The reviewer notes that "Ecumenically minded evangelicals should also be
encouraged by the fact that the Second Vatican Council permanently
committed the Catholic Church to the work of reestablishing full unity
among all Christians." In 1983, Jack Chick warned in his book, Smokescreens: Understanding the Dangers of Today's Call for Christian Unity,
how Rome would only agree to "unity" if all the Protestant churches
came back and accepted her false gospel. Smokescreens details how
Protestant ministers like Billy Graham and Rex Humbard were the pope's
pied pipers coaxing Bible believers back to Rome.
Christianity Today's
promotion of this deceitful book shamefully testifies to the success of
Rome's new tactics.

- Does Jack Chick hate Catholics?
- Quite the opposite. In the mid-1970's, when he first began to
understand what Roman Catholicism really teaches, he knew it
was unscriptural. He also knew that to speak out against it
would be unpopular and hurt his publishing company.
After much prayer, he made the decision that, no matter what it cost him personally, he would publish the truth that Roman Catholicism is not Christian. He did it because he loves Catholics and wants them to be saved through faith in Jesus, not trusting in religious liturgy and sacraments. He paid a price for that decision in many ways, as priests and nuns entered Christian bookstores screaming and making a scene, demanding that the store owner not stock Chick tracts. Some "Christian" media have even refused to accept advertising from Chick Publications, fearing any "controversy" that might hurt their cash flow.
But God has been faithful (as He always is) and has protected Chick Publications over the years. Jack Chick has made it clear that if he had it to do over again, he wouldn't change a thing. The letters from so many Catholics who have read Chick's anti-Catholic material and have gotten saved carry one theme: "Thank you for loving us enough to tell us the truth!" Those precious people make it all worthwhile.
- Aren't all churches coming together in unity?
- The move toward the global church is called the "ecumenical movement."
Spearheaded by the Roman Catholic Church, it is designed to bring all
churches under the influence of the pope.
Since the idea of love and unity is very appealing, many Christians have welcomed the idea, without thinking it through. How can an evangelical Christian, saved by faith alone, be in unity with a Roman Catholic who believes in salvation by good works? The result is always a watering down of the simple, pure gospel.
In his book, Smokescreens (you can read it online), Jack Chick explains why it is important for us to witness to Catholics, rather than accepting them as brothers and sisters in Christ. We must love them enough to tell them the truth! Some will become angry, others will respond in faith.
But if we truly love them, we won't hold back the truth.
For more information in this subject, we make available a number of books (see Books: Catholicism). In addition, you can read online a comparison of the current catechism with the Bible, showing how it teaches a false gospel, written by Rick Jones (see Understanding Roman Catholicism).
- No. While the Catholic Church was seeking to control the
world through religion, true Christians were running for their
lives from the Catholic holocaust that ran for centuries.
God has always had His people, faithful to Him and His Word. They had no part in the Roman Catholic Church. Through much of history, organized religion has hunted and slaughtered God's people. For an excellent overview of this, read the classic work, "The Trail of Blood."

Who is in York County Prison today?
Police Chief Thomas Hyers said Friday that he is requesting an investigation over two videos allegedly showing police brutality. He said he also has put the officers in question on desk duty.
A news release issued Friday afternoon said Hyers had requested that District Attorney Tom Kearney's Office and the Chief of York County Detectives Darryl Albright conduct an investigation involving the two cases.
Cpl. Gregory Hadfield, Patrolman Chad Moyer and Patrolman William Polizzotto are on administrative desk duty until the outcome of the investigation.
Hyers said he will have a news conference Tuesday morning at the police station to release additional information.
Read more here.
Reported earlier
Two federal civil rights lawsuits allege that two people were beaten by Springettsbury Township police in separate incidents that were both captured on video.
Both cases filed Thursday involve allegations against township Patrolman Chad Moyer, and one involves allegations against a second officer.
Dashboard camera videos released by attorney Devon Jacob show an officer, identified by Jacob as Moyer, apparently punching a handcuffed woman and kneeing a man who, the lawsuit alleges, suffered five broken ribs.
Chief Thomas Hyers said Thursday that the township had yet to be served any paperwork. Hyers said he will make an official statement next week.
The woman, Debra Williams, was handcuffed in the back of a police cruiser when she was allegedly struck and an officer grabbed her neck, according to the lawsuit. Police were detaining her on April 2, 2011, after they responded to a domestic dispute. Williams was being restrained by her husband when police arrived, according to the lawsuit.
Williams was "emotionally ill" at the time, the suit says, yelling that she wanted to die and asking police to shoot her. She suffered from anxiety, depression and bipolar disorder, the lawsuit says.
After cuffing her and getting her into the police cruiser, the lawsuit says, Officer Gregory Hadfield punched her at least two times in the face and upper body and grabbed her neck. The video also shows an officer Jacob identified as Moyer punching and slapping Williams at least twice.
The edited video originally provided by Jacob doesn't have any sound and shows the officers striking Williams. The full version, also provided by Jacob, shows Williams threatening the officers, kicking the divider glass in the cruiser and telling the officers to close the door so she "pound" her head.
She also curses throughout the video and said "I'm gonna kill y'all."
The other lawsuit, filed by Steven Landis, alleges that Moyer threw him to the ground and kneed him in the ribs. Another officer, William Polizzotto, used a Taser on Landis while he was on the ground, the lawsuit states. Landis was stopped while he was walking in the area of Eden and Sand Bank roads on Aug. 5, 2012, and had been wanted on a misdemeanor warrant issued by Northern York County Regional Police stemming from a domestic dispute.
Before Moyer knew of the warrant, he asked Landis, who he found walking along the road just before midnight, if he needed help or a ride home.
When Moyer tried to handcuff Landis, Landis pulled his arms back.
While he was on the ground, according to the lawsuit, Landis pleaded with Moyer to stop, that the officer was hurting him, to which Moyer replied, "Yeah, well I am going to hurt you more."
Polizzotto had a dog, Petro, with him and, according to the lawsuit, Moyer said, "I got a dog here.
Listen, I got a dog here. If you want to get bit, you are going to get bit." The lawsuit alleges that Moyer, before kneeing Landis in the ribs, breaking five, told Landis, "You are going to get (bleeped) up."
After Landis was in handcuffs, the video shows the officer explaining to Landis that he had a warrant for a domestic incident earlier that evening.
Landis charged that police refused to get him medical attention for the injuries he suffered during his arrest.
Jacob said Landis suffers from Huntington's disease - a neurodegenerative genetic disorder that affects muscle coordination and leads to cognitive decline and psychiatric problems, according to the Mayo Clinic.
Both lawsuits allege that officers filed false police reports to cover up the alleged brutality.
Jacob, a former police officer, said, "It's a very troubling case. That you have the same officer from the same department on two videos (hitting suspects) and obviously nothing was done and the officer is still on the street is very troublesome."
Jacob said Williams saw him on a news interview and approached him about representing her, while Landis' criminal attorney reach out to his firm.
Jacob said both plaintiffs are seeking monetary damages in the form of medical expenses, pain and suffering, and punitive damages.
He said Landis went to the hospital for his rib injury, and although Williams did not receive medical treatment, she suffered bruising.
The department, the township and other officers are also named as defendants.
Former Springettsbury Township Police Chief David Eshbach, now a district judge, is listed as a defendant on Williams lawsuit. He said that as a judge he is not permitted to comment on a lawsuit before his court or any other.

Papal conclave: anti-mafia police raid offices in diocese of frontrunner
Cardinals urged to overcome divisions at special mass shortly after detectives mount dawn raids in diocese of Angelo Scola

Roman Catholic cardinals have been urged to overcome divisions at a special mass ahead of the papal conclave, just hours after anti-mafia investigators carried out a string of raids in the diocese of the leading candidate.
In a homily before thousands of pilgrims and the most senior figures in the church, Angelo Sodano, the dean of the college of cardinals, made a last-ditch attempt to banish infighting, as he extolled the virtues of unity amid diversity.
But even as preparations for the mass were being made, Cardinal Angelo Scola, the archbishop of Milan – and reportedly the hot favourite to be the next pope – suffered a blow.
Anti-mafia detectives swooped on homes, offices, clinics and hospitals in Lombardy, the region around Milan, and elsewhere. A statement said the dawn raids were part of an investigation into "corruption linked to tenders by, and supplies to, hospitals".
Healthcare in Lombardy is the principal responsibility of the regional administration, which for the past 18 years has been run by Roberto Formigoni, a childhood friend of Scola and the leading political representative of the Communion and Liberation fellowship. Until recently, Scola was seen as the conservative group's most distinguished ecclesiastical spokesman.
But he has progressively loosened his ties to Communion and Liberation, and in early 2012 publicly rebuked the movement after its leader was found to have written to Pope Benedict, implicitly criticising the cardinal's liberal predecessors in the Milan archdiocese.
The regional administration headed by Formigoni – a member of Silvio Berlusconi's party – collapsed last October amid a welter of accusations regarding alleged corruption and misconduct. The final blow came when one of his regional ministers was arrested, accused of buying votes from the 'Ndrangheta, the Calabrian mafia.
Formigoni himself is a formal suspect in an investigation into corruption and conspiracy. He denies the accusations.
Among those arrested on Tuesday was Massimo Guarischi, who in 2009 was given a five-year jail sentence after being convicted of conspiracy and auction-rigging. Guarischi is said to have organised expensive holidays for Formigoni that are central to the investigation into the former governor's affairs.
Scola, who has headed the Milan archdiocese since 2011, is regarded as the champion of a largely non-Italian faction that is challenging the entrenched power of the Vatican cardinals. He was close to the last pope, whose household was run by women members of Communion and Liberation.
He entered the conclave as favourite after the Italian daily Corriere della Sera reported that his supporters were confident he had the support of up to 50 of the 115 cardinal-electors.
But Scola's candidacy has been overshadowed by his past links to a movement that has been linked with pervasive sleaze in Lombardy. By the time Formigoni dissolved the regional assembly last year, 13 members of the governing majority were under investigation, suspected of offences ranging from taking bribes to incitement to violence.
Formigoni belongs to the Memores Domini, a core group of Communion and Liberation members pledged to live by the values of fraternal love, obedience and poverty.
At the pre-conclave mass in St Peter's basilica in Rome, Sodano called on the faithful and electors to overcome divisions and unite behind the next pope.
"Each of us is … called to co-operate with the successor of Peter, the visible foundation of such an ecclesial unity," he said, quoting St Paul's letter to the Ephesians.
The basilica erupted in applause when Sodano, who is 85 and therefore not eligible to vote in the conclave, paid tribute to the "brilliant" leadership of Benedict XVI.
"At the same time today, we implore the Lord, that through the pastoral solicitude of the cardinal fathers, he may soon grant another good shepherd to his holy church," he said.
In his homily, Sodano, who is seen as representing the "old guard" of the Vatican, stressed the pastoral and charitable role of the papacy, amid warnings from many that Benedict's successor should primarily be a good manager capable of reforming the troubled Roman curia.
