Great Fallout: NDAA Chinese tunnel scare 'smokescreen for US nuclear intentions'

A US defense report has called for contingency planning to neutralize a vast Chinese tunnel network with both “conventional and nuclear forces.” James Corbett told RT the “Underground Great Wall” scare is being used to mask US nuclear ambitions.

Orders for the Commander of the US Strategic Command (STRATCOM) to submit a report on means of nullifying China’s underground tunnel network were outlined in the new National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) signed by President Barack Obama on January 2.

The NDAA-directed report will further seek to identify knowledge gaps regarding China’s nuclear weapons programs, a request which was likely spurred by a controversial 2011 study out of Georgetown University entitled “Strategic Implications of China’s Underground Great Wall.”

The researchers claimed that China’s Second Artillery Corps, a secretive branch of the country’s military tasked with protecting and deploying its ballistic missiles and nuclear warheads, had dug some 3,000 miles of tunnels which currently housed up to 3,000 nuclear warheads – ten times US intelligence estimates.

The report drew a firestorm of criticism via its unconventional Internet-based research methods, which relied on Google Earth, blogs, military journals and even a fictional television program about Chinese artillery soldiers, to reach its conclusions.

But the questionable conclusions of the Georgetown report and Washington’s drive to more properly assess China’s military capability, are more reflective of Washington’s own ‘nuclear strategy’ than Beijing’s ambitions, James Corbett, editor of the Japanese-based Corbett Report news website, argues.

RT: The U.S. government is operating on the assumption that there are three thousand kilometers worth of tunnels crisscrossing China. Is that something you'd find believable?

James Corbett: Well, I’m not even sure that the US government really believes it. This is really on the back of a study that was commissioned out of George Town University last year – or two years ago now – that found that in this network of tunnels that we do know exist and can see from satellite telemetry…and it’s just sheer speculation what exists within them at this point. US intelligence estimates puts the Chinese nuclear arsenal at 300 but this study out of George Town in 2011 estimated that it could house as many as 3,000 nuclear warheads. So basically as part of the NDAA [National Defense Authorization Act] 2013 they’re basically saying that now STRATCOM is going to have to issue a report to identify the potential problems involved in this and whether or not they’ll be able to confront this with conventional or nuclear forces in the event that they actually need to take action.

 RT:We've got most of America’s ballistic submarines, we’ve also got more US ships moving to the Pacific, the Pentagon all the while promising to contain China, and now planning for a possible nuclear strike. That's not exactly going to help already strained relations, is it?

JC: It really isn’t. I don’t think we have to look at this report within the context of their going to move in with a nuclear strike right at this point but I think it has to be seen as a wider part of US nuclear policy that’s been stretching out for decades now, trying to come up with ways to justify the existence of some of the US’ existing nuclear arsenal and looking for ways to create new weapons.

So, for example, we have the B61-11 nuclear bunker busters with a 400 kiloton yield that they’ve been harboring and talking about for the better part of a decade now in relation to Iran and trying to bust through into Iran’s underground nuclear facilities or alleged nuclear facilities. Now they’re just shifting that rhetoric over to the Asia-Pacific as part of this Asia-Pacific pivot. I think to a certain extent this is just to justify the existence of the US arsenal and to make sure that things like the new START –the strategic arms reduction treaty – basically gets scuttled before it gets off of the ground.

And there’s a lot in this new NDAA that really seeks to undermine the president’s ability should he ever want to actually reduce the nuclear stockpile. So I think the congress is definitely trying to get their foot in the door and stop any types of arms reductions before they can actually be implemented.

RT:There are certainly some who say that the American president is powerless when going head to head with the military industrial complex. We’ve been getting reports that there have been some rather peculiar, high altitude jet forays between China and Japan, some Japanese jets tailing Chinese jets, basically playing high altitude games of cat and mouse, possibly reigniting another territorial dispute. Is it possible that those two could get involved in something slightly more intense?

JC: It certainly could, and of course the more bellicose that the US becomes against China, the more safe Japan will feel in either threatening or responding to these aggressions. So I think it really only serves to put a match next to this powder keg that is the Asia-Pacific region, especially now that this really is heating up and that the American is turning here, we’re going to see more and more of these types of situations come along that could justify even further military intervention. So we have to look at the types of nuclear rhetoric that is coming out right now as not necessarily an intent to strike soon, but [as something] to keep our eyes on as this rhetoric continues to ratchet up.

Pennsylvania: Stop the Medicaid Expansion Mandate

Higher taxes, less freedom, more fraud, and lower quality medical care for millions ... just by expanding Medicaid.

ObamaCare apologists at the Capitol keep pushing our Governor to take all that “free” federal money and expand Medicaid (medical welfare) to cover people who earn more than what the government considers the “poverty line.”

But if our state complies, our Medicaid obligations could double by the year 2018.

This would be a disaster for our state’s fragile economy.  Just because the federal government is pumping out the dollars does not mean this money is “free.”

This scheme will cost us billions by creating a new permanent dependency class.  We are going to have to cut billions in spending or raise taxes to pay for all these new medical welfare recipients.

But if our Governor takes the Medicaid expansion deal, higher taxes could be the least of your worries.

This scheme could mean the death of private health care in America.

But there’s good news - YOU have an opportunity to stop it.

ObamaCare is designed to completely destroy private sector competition and force all Americans into a government-run system.

Let me lay out how their scheme works.

ObamaCare required states to expand their Medicaid entitlements to include young, able-bodied individuals who earn less than 133% of the poverty level.

The federal government would only cover the majority of the increased costs for “newly eligible” recipients until 2016, after which the states will begin to absorb a significant portion of the increase.

Under the law, only the “newly eligible” qualify for the increased federal funding.

But what ObamaCare stooges are not telling you is tens of millions of individuals already qualify for Medicaid under existing regulations but have never enrolled in the program.

In order to avoid ObamaCare’s tax penalty, these tens of millions of individuals are now expected to enroll.

And since they do not qualify as “newly eligible,” the resulting cost for these recipients will be absorbed by the state - under the old federal reimbursement schedule.

Medicaid already costs taxpayers half-a-trillion dollars a year.  Imagine how much that number will skyrocket once one in four Americans become eligible!

Worse yet, a study by the American Surgical Association showed that individuals on Medicaid are worse off than folks without any insurance coverage at all.

And ObamaCare apologists want to add more people to this failed system!

Aside from the costs and poor quality of Medicaid, the system is rampant with fraud and abuse.

And the more Medicaid expands, the worse it’s going to get.

In fact, the ObamaCare Medicaid expansion is estimated to cost taxpayers $60 billion per year in fraud alone.

Of course, the federal government threatened to withhold all Medicaid funding from states that refused to increase their programs.

But the Supreme Court rebuffed the federal government’s attempt to coerce the states into submission.

The Court found that, “The Constitution simply does not give Congress the authority to require the States to regulate.”

In the judgment of the Court, "The legitimacy of Congress's exercise of the spending power ... ‘rests on whether the State voluntarily and knowingly accepts the terms of the “contract.”’"

Pennsylvania simply cannot afford this budget-busting burden.

Call Governor Tom Corbett at 717-787-2500 right away and tell him not to “voluntarily and knowingly” assist the federal government in this ill-conceived, unaffordable scheme.

Tell him to refuse to expand Medicaid as called for in ObamaCare.

“Everything is on the table.”

That’s what President Obama and his anti-gun allies are saying when it comes to gun control.

To make matters worse, supposedly “pro-gun” Senator Bob Casey -- YOUR U.S. Senator -- has caved to the pressure and now supports President Obama’s Gun Ban Agenda.

More on that in a moment.

Obama’s anti-gun task force is expected to announce what gun control measures they’re going to force on the American people.

You and I don’t have to wait until February to know what they want.

President Obama believes he's been handed the perfect "excuse" to enact a laundry list of anti-gun schemes, including:
*** The UN "Small Arms Treaty." This dangerous Hillary Clinton-backed Treaty is nothing more than a massive GLOBAL gun control scheme designed to register, ban and confiscate firearms from law-abiding citizens;
*** A new so-called "Assault Weapons" Ban.  President Obama loudly supported passage of a new ban during his reelection campaign, and Senator Dianne Feinstein just announced she'll be introducing a new bill in the new Congress that would ban an entire class of semi-automatic firearms, and potentially force the confiscation of existing firearms;
*** Mandatory federal political "mental illness" screening to buy a firearm.  Should such a scheme pass, the federal government would be granted the new power to strip away the Second Amendment rights of any American at will -- just because they don't like your race, your religion or the political candidates you support;
*** Sweeping ammo bans or bans on magazines holding just a handful of rounds.  With any one of these schemes, Congress could effectively outlaw many commonly-owned rifles and handguns.
That's why it's so important you act IMMEDIATELY.
Fighting these measures will prove hard enough without pro-gun quislings like Senator Casey stabbing gun owners in the back.

You see, Senator Casey is back tracking, trying to sound “reasonable” to the anti-gun intellectuals who rule Washington D.C.’s cocktail circuit.

But now this NRA "A" rated politician has outright pledged his support for a magazine ban and the so-called "Assault Weapons Ban" 1

Casey boldly declared: “If those two bills come before the Senate, I’ll vote for both!” 1

Rep. Stockman threatens Obama impeachment over guns

Rep. Steve Stockman (R-Texas) is threatening to file articles of impeachment against President Barack Obama if he moves to change gun regulations through executive order.

“I will seek to thwart this action by any means necessary, including but not limited to eliminating funding for implementation, defunding the White House, and even filing articles of impeachment,” Stockman said.

In a statement, Stockman didn’t hold back, saying Obama is launching an “attack on the very founding principles of this republic.”

“The President’s actions are an existential threat to this nation,” Stockman said in a statement. “The right of the people to keep and bear arms is what has kept this nation free and secure for over 200 years.  The very purpose of the Second Amendment is to stop the government from disallowing people the means to defend themselves against tyranny. Any proposal to abuse executive power and infringe upon gun rights must be repelled with the stiffest legislative force possible.”

Obama said in a Monday morning press conference that he will make public recommendations from a task force run by Vice President Joe Biden to curb gun violence in the wake of shootings in Newtown, Conn. Last week, Biden said some of those restrictions may be achieved through executive order instead of the legislative process.

Stockman - a former House member who returned to Washington after 15 years this January to oppose John Boehner as speaker - said taking away guns requires due process and the consent of Congress.

“The President’s actions are not just an attack on the Constitution and a violation of his sworn oath of office – they are a direct attack on Americans that place all of us in danger,” he said. “If the President is allowed to suspend constitutional rights on his own personal whims, our free republic has effectively ceased to exist.”
