At least 18 killed as S. African police open fire on thousands of striking miners (PHOTOS)

At least 18 bodies were seen lying bloody and motionless on the
ground after local police opened fire on striking miners, a South
African news agency reports. Some of the protesters were allegedly armed
with machetes and spears.
The incident is believed to have occurred after police, in the process of laying down barricades of barbed wire, were outflanked by a crowd of 3,000 demonstrators.
Nine people had been killed prior to Thursday’s clashes in a spate of protest in the mining town, located northwest of Johannesburg. The platinum mine, owned by Lonmin PLC, has been the focal point of protests over wage disputes since last Friday.
Fighting intensified over the weekend when two police officers were killed. Striking workers and local security guards have also been caught up in the violence.
Some 3,000 police massed in the area on Wednesday, some wearing riot gear and supported by helicopters. Demonstrators were reinforced on Thursday by a group of women pledging to stand by their husbands in their demand for increased wages.
Lonmin announced that the disruption means the company is unlikely to meet its 2012 production targets. Shares in the company have tumbled 6 percent following Thursday’s violence, bringing total losses since the outset of the strike to 13 percent.

Tragic anti-Family shooting
I’m sure you’ve already heard about the tragic shooting yesterday at the headquarters for a major pro-Family organization.
While details are still emerging, a radical homosexual activist entered the main building of the Family Research Council with the intent to assault or even kill their staff.
Thank God, he was stopped by the heroic actions of security guard Leo Johnson.
Our prayers are going out to Mr. Johnson, who was wounded in the attack, and his family.
Fortunately he is already stable and recovering after surgery.
The shooter has been positively identified as a radical homosexual activist.
He was even carrying a backpack stuffed with Chick-fil-A sandwiches in a reference to the pro-Family fight waged over the company’s pro-marriage stance.
I wish I could say that this was an isolated incident, but I am afraid it is a dire warning of things to come.
For months now, the Homosexual Lobby has systematically decried the pro-Family Movement as “hateful” and our message of real marriage and family values as “hate speech.”
They claim we are as dangerous as Neo-Nazis or the KKK.
Is it any wonder that one of their members decided to take matters into his own hands?
Let me assure you I am taking the appropriate steps to keep myself and my staff safe without sacrificing any of our work.
We will not be intimidated by violence.
