San Diego police have arrested a man accused of beating and threatening a 55-year-old homeless man, and the witness description of the suspect is quite chilling: "the suspect was said to have 'vampire teeth.'"

NBC San Diego
reported on the fanged assailant, who allegedly attacked the victim outside a shopping center in San Diego's affluent La Jolla neighborhood shortly before 6am Monday.

The victim was reportedly kicked in the head and ribs and left bleeding. The San Diego Union-Tribune says the victim's left eye was swollen shut. He told police that the attacker -- who appears to be a transient -- also repeatedly threatened to kill him.

Asleep behind the shopping center off La Jolla Village Drive, the victim was beaten in an attack he says was "totally unprovoked."

Officers tracked down the suspect shortly after the incident and booked him on felony assault charges that may be upgraded to attempted murder.

Shane Shuyler may have been high on bath salts when he came after a 3-year-old girl on a playground in North Miami Beach, police said.

A naked stalker may have been high on bath salts when he came after a 3-year-old girl on a playground and told her, "Hi pretty girl, I want to stick it in you," Miami police said.
A grainy surveillance video released by the North Miami Beach police on Monday shows Shane Shuyler lurking around a playground behind the station house last Wednesday, authorities said.

A terrified mom told cops the haggard junkie wore boxer shorts and nothing else when he exposed himself to her toddler daughter and made the sickening remark, local station WSVN reported.
Shuyler allegedly hid underneath a slide and stalked at least one other family before police arrived and arrested him, the station said.

Federal agents 'have sex at Cirque Du Soleil'

A California performance of Cirque Du Soleil turned into “Sex Du Soleil” recently when two U.S. border agents allegedly had sex in front other audience members before attacking them.
Broadcast reports indicate Kallie Helwig was performing oral sex on Gerald Torello Jr. in plain view of others including children during the May 27 event at the Del Mar Fairgrounds near San Diego.
“She had her head in his lap. It looked like her head and her hand were moving up and down and it looked like she was giving him oral sex in public,” an unidentified female witness told KFMB-TV.
The witness also claims Torello, the male agent, gave a 5-year-old boy a high-five during the incident, and there were other children present at the time.
“The guy was so lacking in judgment that he felt it was OK to give the boy a high-five while she was giving him [oral sex],” the witness added.
The couple was asked to stop by those in the audience, and the pair reportedly became enraged.
Kallie Helwig
“While I’m watching her, she’s staring at me and she’s throwing punches in the air. And you can hear the guy saying, ‘You can take her, babe. I got your back,’” the woman said.
After the Cirque Du Soleil event ended, Agent Helwig allegedly punched the woman three times in the face, while Agent Torello got into a confrontation with the woman’s husband.
Helwig told deputies, “She wasn’t feeling well so she had her head on Torello’s lap and he was rubbing her stomach,” the report reads.
Helwig also claimed she was attacked first, though other witness accounts contradict her version.
Photographs show injuries to the face of the woman who claimed the agent attacked her. She said Helwig, ” … just turned around and socked me right on my left eye. She got me with a punch to the right jaw and left jaw. I had a black eye and a knot in my forehead.”
Both agents were off duty at the time of the incident, and Helwig was given a misdemeanor citation for battery while Torello was detained for being intoxicated in public.
Investigators say neither agent is charged with any sex-related crime because audience members did not witness any specific sexual contact.
Federal supervisors of the pair have issued a statement concerning the case, stating:
“All Customs and Border Protection (CBP) employees are expected to conduct themselves in a professional manner while on or off duty. CBP stresses honor and integrity in every aspect of our mission, and the overwhelming majority of CBP employees and officers perform their duties with honor and distinction, working tirelessly every day to keep our country safe. CBP takes every allegation of misconduct seriously and fully cooperates in the investigation of such allegations. Presently, the two employees in question have been assigned administrative duties.”

MSNBC’s Joe Scarborough Confesses: ‘I Voted For Ron Paul’

by Frances Martel

Voting is the single most intimate act in the American political process, and MSNBC’s Joe Scarborough decided today to bare all by leading Politico readers through his voting thought process, and how he eventually ended up giving his vote to Rep. Ron Paul. Going through a process of elimination, Scarborough writes that even he was shocked that his decision to vote for Rep. Paul “would happen as fast as a tornado whipping through an Amarillo parking lot.”

Scarborough narrates the way he came to his decision, sitting at his kitchen table, looking down the list of names. He couldn’t vote for Mitt Romney or Rick Santorum “on his life” because of their big government principles, and Newt Gingrich he describes as “ideologically unmoored.” So Rep. Ron Paul it is.

He does admit it was something more than that– that ideological consistency and inconvenient honesty had much to do with Rep. Paul’s appeal. “I cast my vote for the only candidate who spent his entire public career standing athwart history yelling ‘stop’ to an ever-expanding centralized state,” he explains, setting the scene with the fact that Romney, Santorum, and Gingrich were all promoting an expansion of the federal government. “It was the first ‘protest’ vote I’ve ever cast, and it felt … well, it felt good,” Scarborough adds, also noting that he does not think Rep. Paul could ever win a national presidential election but felt the need to promote Rep. Paul’s “candor” in some tiny way.

As Scarborough explains, it was a surprise vote even to him, as a former Congressman himself with a moderate Republican background, though his aversion to Romney was never a particular secret. But a public statement of support for Rep. Paul from a prominent Republican is certainly something new, if a little late to make a difference for Rep. Paul.

York Housing Authority announces smoking ban

ERIN JAMES The York Dispatch
505-5439 / @ydvcity

As long as she's not bothering anyone else, Reda Richardson thinks she should be able to smoke at home.

But those days are numbered, the Broad Park Manor resident recently learned. On Oct. 1, the York Housing Authority will enact a no-smoking policy affecting residents of more than 1,000 units across York County.

"It feels like they're infringing on my personal life, telling me to live my life by their rules. I don't think it's fair," Richardson, 67, said. "What I do in my own private premises, it's nobody's business."
Richardson is not alone in her outrage.

Several dozen people - presumably most of them smokers - turned out Tuesday for a meeting about the new policy at the White Rose Senior Center in York City. It was the first in a series of information sessions that will be held at each of the authority's facilities, said Shelley Peterson, director of housing management.

The policy, which also bans smoking within 25 feet of entrances or windows, will go into effect Oct. 1, she said.

"People who are smokers are really not happy," Peterson said. "Nonsmokers are less vocal, but they're happy."

Marlene Sexton-Norrell, another Broad Park Manor resident, said she thinks it's hypocritical of the government to allow the sale of cigarettes but ban smoking in public housing facilities.

"Now they want to say you can't smoke," Sexton-Norrell, 63, said.

The York Housing Authority, which is based in York City, manages affordable-housing complexes throughout the county. Tenants pay no more than 30 percent of their income toward rent. The rest is subsidized by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, Peterson said.

HUD "strongly encouraged" the change in a written memo to housing authorities nationwide, Peterson said.

For now, there's no funding incentive to implement smoking bans, Peterson said. But, she said, "My guess is at some point HUD will mandate it."

The new policy will become part of lease agreements. Residents caught violating the policy can be charged a $250 fee. After three violations, the authority can opt to terminate the lease, Peterson said.
Peterson said the authority does not keep track of how many of its residents smoke.

Despite the passionate feedback, there's almost no chance the authority will abandon its plan before October, Peterson said.

"They believe they have a constitutional right, which they don't," she said.

Open Letter To HUD, York City Housing Authority, All Housing Authorities Affected, Senators And Representatives:

I am a resident of Broad Park Manor and feel my rights are being violated by not being able to smoke cigarettes in my own apartment. I am part American Indian, and tobacco smoke is part of our religious practices and belief system which would also be violating my religious freedoms which is un-Constitutional.

At this point in my life I am not interested in quitting and wish the Government and its funded agencies would stay out of my personal life.

When I first moved here before signing the lease, I specifically asked if smoking was permitted in my apartment, and they said yes. now it is around 4-5 years later and we are being told we can no longer smoke in our apartments as of Oct. 1st 2012.

Just because us residents are elderly, disabled and low income, we are being persecuted by not being permitted to smoke in our own home. We pay rent here based on what we earn and can afford. This is public housing and not owned by private owners. It is paid for by yours and my tax dollars, not a private owner who would have more say in this issue. Most of the people here are elderly and worked all their life and paid taxes, leave them alone to do as they please in their own home, and stop harassing them and me!

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Religious_views_on_smoking

Religious views on smoking vary widely. Indigenous peoples of the Americas have traditionally used tobacco for religious purposes, while Abrahamic and other religions have only been introduced to the practice in recent times due to the European colonization of the Americas in the 16th century.

Communal smoking of a sacred tobacco pipe is a common ritual of many Native American tribes, and was considered a sacred part of their religion. Sema, the Anishinaabe word for tobacco, was grown for ceremonial use and considered the ultimate sacred plant since its smoke was believed to carry prayers to the heavens. Smoking was chiefly done after the evening meal, in the sweathouse, and before going to sleep.[1] The tobacco used during these rituals varies widely in potency — the Nicotiana rustica species used in South America, for instance, has up to twice the nicotine content of the common North American N. tabacum. Many Native American tribes operate tobacco stores, including on the Internet, where they are usually exempt from taxes and therefore can sell products cheaper than non-Native American dealers.

There is also Biblical reference pertaining to the smoking of flax.

Matthew 12:17-20

King James Version (KJV)

17 That it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Esaias the prophet, saying,

18 Behold my servant, whom I have chosen; my beloved, in whom my soul is well pleased: I will put my spirit upon him, and he shall shew judgment to the Gentiles.

19 He shall not strive, nor cry; neither shall any man hear his voice in the streets.

20 A bruised reed shall he not break, and smoking flax shall he not quench, till he send forth judgment unto victory.

Isaiah 42:1-4

King James Version (KJV)

42 Behold my servant, whom I uphold; mine elect, in whom my soul delighteth; I have put my spirit upon him: he shall bring forth judgment to the Gentiles.

2 He shall not cry, nor lift up, nor cause his voice to be heard in the street.

3 A bruised reed shall he not break, and the smoking flax shall he not quench: he shall bring forth judgment unto truth.

4 He shall not fail nor be discouraged, till he have set judgment in the earth: and the isles shall wait for his law.

The residents of York Housing Authority would  greatly appreciate your help in this matter!

NANTICOKE, Md. (AP) — A Naval drone aircraft crashed on Maryland's Eastern Shore on Monday without injuries or property damage on the ground, officials said.

The 44-foot plane on a routine training flight crashed around noon near Bloodsworth Island, across the Chesapeake Bay from the Patuxent River Naval Air Station, according to Jaime Cosgrove, a spokeswoman for the Unmanned Aviation and Strike Weapons program.

Aerial video from WBOC-TV showed a plane-shaped indentation surrounded by burning debris at the swampy crash site.

The cause is being investigated and the U.S. Coast Guard has set up a safety zone around the crash site, officials said.

The Northrop Grumman RQ-4A BAMS-D drones with a range of 10,500 nautical miles can reach 11 miles above the ground, which is above most weather, and stay in the air for more than 30 hours with speeds up to 391 mph, according to the Navy. It is operated by a crew of four on the ground.

The $46 million aircraft is one of five acquired from the Air Force Global Hawk program that support more than half of maritime intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance systems. They have flown more than 5,500 hours in support of combat operations since 2008.

The maritime surveillance aircraft have been used in support of the 5th Fleet, which covers much of the Middle East, including the Red Sea, the Persian Gulf and part of the east African coast.

The southern Maryland station at the mouth of the Patuxent River, 65 miles southeast of Washington, is home to the Navy's test pilot school, drone operations and principal research center for aircraft and support systems.
