Judge Napolitano Slams UN Debate On Internet Regulation: Beauty Of Net Is That It’s ‘Utterly Unregulated’
by Alex Alvarez
Judge Andrew Napolitano stopped by Fox & Friends early Tuesday morning, where he weighed in on a story involving the UN and the internet.
The segment kicked off, however, with host Brian Kilmeade opining that the U.S. should most definitely not give Italy drones.
“You know,” he told his co-hosts, “I’m half Italian and I’m telling you right now, we should not give them these drones. [...] What have they done to demand drones? Why do they need help firing missiles on their drones?”
“If they’re part of the coalition, they can help us kill some bad guys,” pointed out Steve Doocy.
“We can do it,” countered Kilmeade. “We have the joy sticks.”
Napolitano, meanwhile, was seated on the show’s “curvy couch,” laughing raucously.

Then, he got down to the nitty gritty: The debate on whether the United Nations should essentially “oversee” the internet.”
“You know, this sounds crazy — and it is,” he began, “but this week, the House of Representatives of the United States of America in Washington, D.C. is going to debate whether or not to allow the United Nations or some group in the United Nations to regulate the internet in the United States.”
“China is pushing for this because the Chinese government does this,” he explained. “Russia is pushing for this because the Russian government does it. Why should the House of Representatives even consider this? It is so obviously violative of our first amendment freedoms here in this country.”
Already, he said, “President Obama has claimed in an emergency, he can shut down the internet. I only know of one instance in which a government shut down the internet in recent times and that’s the city of San Francisco when the Occupy wall street crazies were in the subway and in the Bay Area rapid transit.”
“Or during the Arab Spring,” added host Steve Doocy.
“Look,” said Napolitano, “the internet is just speech. And the beauty of it is it’s utterly unregulated. You can say what you want, you can talk to whomever you want, and you don’t have to worry about the government and you don’t have to worry about anybody stopping you.” And, while he believes these efforts will ultimately fail, he added that “I guess that there are elements in the State Department that are trying to do a favor to their colleagues in China and Russia saying, ‘Yeah, we’ll put this on the table and see where it goes.’ It should go down the black hole and stay there.”
“The judge is going to be arming drones later,” joked Kilmeade as the hosts bid the Judge farewell. Callback!
