Rand Paul in TSA showdown after refusing pat down - Political Hotsheet - CBS News

Republican Sen. Rand Paul of Kentucky on Monday found himself in a showdown with the Transportation Security Administration in Nashville, Tennessee after refusing to undergo a full-body pat down.

The senator went through the scanner at the airport but was told there was some sort of "anomaly" with the scan and would have to get a full-body pat down, Paul's chief of staff Doug Stafford told CBS News. Paul did not consent to this and offered another scan, but the TSA insisted on the pat down.

According to the Associated Press, Paul said he was "detained" in a small cubicle in the airport, which is about an hour from his Bowling Green, Kentucky home, and missed his flight to Washington for a Senate session.

The TSA disputed the characterization that Paul was "detained." The TSA told CBS News that Paul wasn't detained at any point, though he triggered an alarm during a routine screening and refused to complete the screening process.

Passengers who refuse to comply with security procedures are denied access to the secure gate area. In this case, Paul was escorted out of the screening area by local law enforcement, according to the TSA.

"When an irregularity is found during the TSA screening process, it must be resolved prior to allowing a passenger to proceed to the secure area of the airport," the TSA said in a statement to CBS News. "Passengers who refuse to complete the screening process cannot be granted access to the secure area in order to ensure the safety of others traveling."

Paul's father, Republican presidential candidate and Texas Rep. Ron Paul, quickly tweeted about the incident Monday morning: "My son @SenRandPaul being detained by TSA for refusing full body pat-down after anomaly in body scanner in Nashville. More details coming."

Ron Paul left a similar message on Facebook, and Rand Paul's communications director Moira Bagley also tweeted the news.

Both Rand Paul and Ron Paul are known for their libertarian policy positions, and last year, Rand Paul blasted the TSA for conducting unnecessary pat downs.

In a June 2011 hearing, Paul told TSA administrator John Pistole, "I think you ought to get rid of the random pat-downs. The American public is unhappy with them, they're unhappy with the invasiveness of them."

After reports surfaced of young children getting intense, random pat-downs, Paul said in the hearing, "It just really just shows that no one is thinking... We need to be doing better police work and doing less of the universal giving up of our freedom to live our life the way we would like to live our life."

He suggested there should be a "trusted traveler" program in which people who travel frequently and are known to be not a threat, like congressmen, don't have to be searched.

Update, 11:52 a.m. ET: A TSA official tells CBS News that Paul was re-booked on another flight and re-screened without incident.

Southern Baptist leader says forgiving Newt not the same as trusting him with presidency

The Christian Post reports,

While evangelicals applauded Newt Gingrich for his sharp response to CNN debate moderator John King on Thursday night about his second wife, evangelicals are not necessarily comfortable with electing him as the “values” candidate.

Southern Baptist ethicist Richard Land said Gingrich’s answer to King’s question about his failed marriage to second wife Marianne was “tactically brilliant.” . . .

Land, the president of the SBC’s Ethics and Religious Liberty Commission and executive editor of The Christian Post, also disagreed with King’s decision to open the debate with Marianne’s accusations. However, he expressed that the question is relevant given the party Gingrich is running in.

“This is the party of family values. If you’re going to be in the party of family values, you got to walk the walk or you may be charged with hypocrisy,” Land said. . . .

Land agreed with supporters that Gingrich gave a strong answer. He also agreed with those who call for forgiveness. However, Land said, “Forgiveness and trusting someone with the presidency are two different things.”

Land said evangelicals and Christian leaders are in for a challenge if Gingrich becomes the nominee. “For people who have stressed family values and character, yeah it will [be difficult],” he said.

While Land and others have endorsed a candidate other than Gingrich, “In the end, Land said if Gingrich wins the GOP nomination, conservatives will get behind him.” I suspect he does not speak for all conservatives.

Obama not scheduled to appear in GA “birther” hearing despite “order”

American Vision News reported Saturday on the eligibility cases against Barack Obama sustained by Judge Michael Malihi in Atlanta. Hearings are set for January 26. The Associated Press reported that Obama was “ordered” to “appear in court,” but we now learn Obama is scheduled to attend campaign events in Vegas on that day.

President Obama has been ordered to appear before a judge in Atlanta in a case challenging whether he is qualified to be president of the United States, according to the Associated Press.

The judge set the hearing for this Thursday after denying on Friday a motion by Obama’s lawyer to quash a subpoena that requires Obama to personally show up.

Obama, however, will be nowhere near Atlanta on Thursday. According to the White House, he will be out West promoting the agenda he plans to lay out in Tuesday’s State of the Union address. Obama Thursday plans to make appearances in Las Vegas and Denver areas before traveling on to Detroit to spend the night.

While this could mean, as some have suggested, that Obama is planning to snub the court order with executive defiance, others—both “birthers” and anti-birthers—are noting this is not quite the case. Dean Haskins of birtherreport.com writes,

Let me make a couple points to try to put this into context. First, because the first response to “birthers” by many in this country is simply to blow us off as conspiracy theorists, Michael Jablonski submitted a sloppy, weak Motion to Quash. I’m sure he thought it would suffice with the judge—since the opposition were birthers; however, Judge Malihi obviously regards his role and the legal process much more seriously than that. And, because I’m sure he wants to make certain that, at the end of these HEARINGS (not trials), there is nothing that could be viewed as procedurally improper, he’s not going to grant the professional attorney involved any special favors. He will hold somebody accountable to understand the law, and I’ll leave it up to you to figure out whom that might be.

Here’s what will probably happen: after Jablonski recovers from his blanket party, he will likely file an amended Motion to Quash; and it will probably be one of the most thorough Motions to Quash in the history of Motions to Quash, and Judge Malihi will probably grant that motion.

And while one of the lawyers involved has announced Malihi’s “order” as if it were a great victory for her (Orly Taitz), Haskins warns that this hearing is nowhere near as definite or monumental as some are letting on:

In the unlikelihood that Judge Malihi does not grant his amended Motion to Quash, there is something that is virtually guaranteed to happen: Obama not showing up to an administrative law hearing in the state of Georgia. Jablonski would appear on his behalf, and present a certified “birth certificate” and proof of residency for the past 14 years. As the certified “birth certificate” will be considered self-verifying by the court, nothing Orly will say will sway it. And remember, the end result of this hearing is a non-binding recommendation to the Secretary of State. So, no, Obama will not be handcuffed in Atlanta next week (he won’t even be there).

I’m not trying to be a downer, or burst anybody’s bubble—but, honestly folks—we need to stop spreading the spin all over the internet, just to be made fools of when what was posted never happens. I’m amazed at the number of people who haven’t figured that one out with Orly yet. It’s just not going to happen like we want it to. . . .

So reader beware:

But what about the Sunni Muslim Brotherhood? Well, in 1928 the Jesuits created the Brotherhood via its Jesuit Provincial of the Middle East governing Syria, Lebanon and Egypt. Thus, the cities he ruled were Damascus, Beirut and Cairo. And in Cairo is the most important Masonic lodge within the Muslim world. Herein was the Muslim Brotherhood created to the end that one day all the Middle Eastern Arab nations would be under its control. Yes, the Muslim Brotherhood, like Opus Dei created in Spain in 1928, is merely the creature of the Jesuit Superior General, Black Pope Adolfo Nicholas!

Therefore we are not surprised to see this invaluable report coming out of Lebanon! Yes, the “Arab Spring” was a work of the Jesuit Papacy overseeing its Muslim Brotherhood as it attacked Libya, reducing the Berbers to subordination to Knight of Malta King Juan Carlos’ Mediterranean Union! Knight of Malta Maummar Gadaffi betrayed his patriotic troops into the hands of the Brotherhood and then escaped the country as did Saddam Hussein in Iraq. Both Jesuit Temporal Coadjutors were loyal to the designs of Rome and therefore were secretly removed from office, their deaths being faked for the world to see—and believe!

In conclusion, whatever the Muslim Brotherhood may do, know this: its orders come from Rome; its master is the Jesuit General.
