Tokyo Electric Power is struggling to block a crack discovered in a pit that is leaking highly radioactive water into the ocean at its Fukushima Daiichi plant, and said it had discovered the bodies of its two missing employees at the stricken plant.

Staff discovered the 20 centimetre-wide crack in a shaft storing supply cables close to reactor No 2. Tepco is making preparations to inject a type of polymer into the pit in its latest effort to block the leaking water, after Saturday’s attempts to plug the crack with concrete failed.

It is the first time that the company has discovered a source of radiation leakage, amid signs it was continuously seeping into the sea. High levels of radiation inside and outside the building were detected at the reactor No 2 in the past week.

Japan’s premier on Saturday visited emergency crew who have struggled to stabilise a tsunami-hit nuclear plant that has leaked radiation into the air, ground and ocean.

The visit came as the firm operating the Fukushima power station announced it had discovered a crack in a pit leaking highly radioactive water straight into the sea.

Donning a blue workman’s outfit, Prime Minister Naoto Kan arrived by military helicopter to give a pep talk to the atomic plant workers, firefighters and troops battling to shut down the plant.

Doctors: avoid naked body scanners

Amplify’d from www.infowars.com

NaturalNews

April 3, 2011

For those still contemplating whether or not the radiation emitted from airport naked body scanners is serious enough to avoid, you may be interested to know that many doctors routinely “opt out” and choose the full-body pat down instead because they recognize the inherent dangers associated with any level of radiation exposure. A recent CNN piece explains that for many doctors, avoiding all sources of radiation whenever possible is just the smart thing to do.

Throughout the past year, NaturalNews has covered many stories related to the US Transportation Security Administration’s (TSA) controversial naked body scanners, which are now installed and in use at nearly 80 US airports (http://www.tsa.gov/approach/tech/ai…). Besides representing an unconstitutional invasion of privacy (http://www.tsa.gov/approach/tech/ai…), the scanners blast passengers with full-body doses of health-destroying radiation (http://www.naturalnews.com/naked_bo…).

So what do medical doctors who fly have to say about the machines? Well, according to CNN’s Elizabeth Cohen who recently conducted her own small investigation, many are concerned about the radiation these scanners emit. In fact, Cohen quotes several doctors who express concern about the cumulative effects of repeated radiation exposure, even if such exposure is supposedly miniscule and below established thresholds for causing harm.

“I do whatever I can to avoid the scanner. This is a total body scan — not a dental or chest X-ray,” said Dr. Len Lichtenfield to Cohen in an email. “Total body radiation is not something I find very comforting based on my medical knowledge.”

Another doctor explained that there is “no absolutely safe dose of radiation,” and that “each exposure is additive.” So even if the supposedly low radiation doses emitted from the naked body scanners are as low as TSA and the machines’ manufacturers claim they are, habitual exposure will still cause bodily harm.

Even Dr. Otis Brawley, chief medical officer of the American Cancer Society (ACS) expressed concern about whether the safety of them machines, and whether or not TSA is properly maintaining and testing them for safety. After all, TSA refused to release safety reports for quite some time, and when they did, the bungled reports explained nothing more than TSA’s high level of incompetence (http://www.naturalnews.com/031792_a…).

Back in December, radiation scientists admitted that naked body scanners are fully capable of causing both sperm mutations and cancer, despite insistence by authorities to the contrary (http://www.naturalnews.com/030607_n…). Other reports suggest that nobody really knows how much radiation is actually emitted from naked body scanners due to flawed and inconclusive safety tests (http://www.naturalnews.com/031792_a…)

Dover man guilty of sex abuse 8yo girl

Ex-Greenwich man convicted of sex assault of girl

By Joe Green
jgreen@sjnewsco.com

WOODBURY A little girl's ordeal is far from over,
and her innocence shattered, even though her abuser was
convicted Friday.

A Superior Court jury found 40-year-old Michael L. Pavlyik,
formerly of Greenwich Township, guilty of having several
forms of sexual contact with the girl, beginning when she
was 8 years old.

The abuse continued for more than two years, authorities
said.

Gloucester County Senior Assistant Prosecutor Audrey Curwin
said Pavlyik "used (the victim's) young age, her
vulnerability and the fear she wouldn't be able to be
with her family in order to sexually abuse her multiple
times in multiple ways."

In all, Pavlyik, who most recently lived in Dover, Pa., was
convicted on seven counts, including sexual assault and
endangering the welfare of a child. Aside from the sexual
assaults, the jury also found Pavlyik showed pornography to
the victim on a home computer.

He was additionally found guilty of possessing an explosive
device Ð a nine-inch tube filled with black powder that was
found in his former Greenwich Township residence.

He was arrested on the charges in March 2007.

"We are pleased with the verdict, which affirms the
allegations and provides a measure of justice to an
innocent, terribly abused child," Gloucester County
Prosecutor Sean Dalton said.

"This verdict would not have been possible without a
unified approach Ð great trial work by (Curwin), the
diligence of her support staff and investigative units of
this office and the cooperation of the Baltimore County
Police Department."

Curwin added, "Justice was rendered for a brave
victim, and a deplorable defendant who should expect, and
deservedly so, to be incarcerated until at least the early
to mid 2020s."

She told the jury the victim was plagued from 2004 to 2007
with fear of, and vulnerability to, Pavlyik.

The girl lived in Maryland, Prosecutor's Office
spokesman Bernie Weisenfeld said, but visited Greenwich
Township "periodically."

Three of the counts on which Pavlyik was convicted are
first-degree crimes carrying maximum prison sentences of 10
to 20 years. The other four are second-degree crimes with a
five- to 10-year maximum.

Weisenfeld said it was unknown whether the sentences will be
concurrent or consecutive.

Pavlyik was committed to the Gloucester County Jail, and
Superior Court Judge Walter L. Marshall revoked his $50,000
bail. Sentencing will come after an evaluation at the
state's Adult Diagnostic Treatment Center for sex
offenders in Avenel.

GM cows produce “human” milk

Genetically modified cows produce “human” milk

The scientists have successfully introduced human genes into 300 dairy cows to produce milk with the same properties as human breast milk.

Human milk contains high quantities of key nutrients that can help to boost the immune system of babies and reduce the risk of infections.

The scientists behind the research believe milk from herds of genetically modified cows could provide an alternative to human breast milk and formula milk for babies, which is often criticized as being an inferior substitute.

They hope genetically modified dairy products from herds of similar cows could be sold in supermarkets. The research has the backing of a major biotechnology company.

The work is likely to inflame opposition to GM foods. Critics of the technology and animal welfare groups reacted angrily to the research, questioning the safety of milk from genetically modified animals and its effect on the cattle's health.

Exposed: The US-Saudi Libya deal

Exposed: The US-Saudi Libya deal

You invade Bahrain. We take out Muammar Gaddafi in Libya. This, in short, is the essence of a deal struck between the Barack Obama administration and the House of Saud. Two diplomatic sources at the United Nations independently confirmed that Washington, via Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, gave the go-ahead for Saudi Arabia to invade Bahrain and crush the pro-democracy movement in their neighbor in exchange for a "yes" vote by the Arab League for a no-fly zone over Libya - the main rationale that led to United Nations Security Council resolution 1973.

The revelation came from two different diplomats, a European and a member of the BRIC group, and was made separately to a US scholar and Asia Times Online. According to diplomatic protocol, their names cannot be disclosed. One of the diplomats said, "This is the reason why we could not support resolution 1973. We were arguing that Libya, Bahrain and Yemen were similar cases, and calling for a fact-finding mission. We maintain our official position that the resolution is not clear, and may be interpreted in a belligerent manner."

As Asia Times Online has reported, a full Arab League endorsement of a no-fly zone is a myth. Of the 22 full members, only 11 were present at the voting. Six of them were Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) members, the US-supported club of Gulf kingdoms/sheikhdoms, of which Saudi Arabia is the top dog. Syria and Algeria were against it. Saudi Arabia only had to "seduce" three other members to get the vote.

After Libya, “Syria next piece on geopolitical chessboard”

The Libyan crisis may repeat itself in Syria, believes independent journalist James Corbett, who joined RT to discuss the latest developments in the Middle Eastern country.

On Sunday, Syrian President Bashar al-Assad appointed a new prime minister after dismissing the cabinet in an attempt to ease the unrest in the country.

Dozens have been killed in two weeks of fighting. The government blames outside influences for the unrest.

The extraordinary wave of protests has proved the most serious challenge yet to Assad's 11-year rule. He earlier pledged he would form committees to look into civilian deaths and the possibility of replacing the decades-old emergency laws.

The situation has raised fears that further foreign military intervention could be on the cards.

“Syria is going to become the next piece on the geopolitical chessboard for those who are manipulating the current intervention in Libya. We’ve seen a lot of covert intervention going on behind the scenes before and during the so-called ‘humanitarian intervention’. And that’s exactly what’s going to be taking place in Syria as a very geo-strategic location starts to become destabilized,” James Corbett told RT.

Fukushima to check industrial goods for radiation

The government of Fukushima Prefecture will begin free monitoring of local industrial products for radiation following the leaks from the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear plant.

The prefecture said on Sunday that there is growing public concern about the impact of radiation on industrial products as well as farm and marine produce.

It said more countries are moving to restrict imports from Japan even though they are free from radioactive contamination.

The radiation monitoring will start on Monday in an industrial park in Koriyama City and will cover all industrial products made in the prefecture.

Fukushima Governor Yuhei Sato urged the central government to quickly lift shipping restrictions on farm and marine products when radiation levels fall below the government-set limits. He said the government was slow in responding even after radiation levels declined.

A central government official said it will increase the number of organizations monitoring radiation, and will instruct the related ministries to take quick action when lifting shipping restrictions.
