Nancy Grace: Fight About Radiation

Nancy Grace, Weatherman Bernie Rayno Fight About Radiation (VIDEO)

Nancy Grace

Nancy Grace got into an argument with a weatherman about the potential effects of radiation from Japan on the United States.

Grace's spat with meteorologist Bernie Rayno occurred on her Monday show. Essentially, she thought that the radiation stemming from the Japanese nuclear crisis could be dangerous to Americans. (Trace amounts of radiation have been located in California.) Rayno disagreed.

"In the United States, I don't think there's going to be a big impact at all," he said.

"Bernie. Bernie," Grace cut in right away. "Oh boy, here we go," he said.

"Yes, here we go," she shot back. "That's what you said the last time, and there's a state of emergency declared in California!"

Rayno said that was due to tsunami fears, not radiation fears. Grace wasn't buying it, but Rayno didn't back down.

"No matter how you slice this, this is not headed toward the United States," he said. "...It doesn't just magically appear. It's got to get here. And the large amounts aren't."

"I'm just a trial lawyer, but I know that radiation comes across the ocean," Grace replied sarcastically.

Nancy Grace Just Knows That Everyone In California Will Die from RadiationNancy Grace Just Knows That Everyone In California Will Die from Radiation Headline News anchor Nancy Grace invited Accuweather meteorologist Bernie Rayno on her program last night to talk about the (very minimal) health threat that Japanese radiation poses to Californians.

Why did she even bother having a guest, though? She seems to have a solid grasp of the situation already — that everyone in California is going to get sick, soon, from the catastrophic radiation levels saturating their skies. When Rayno tries to tell her that no, the radiation threat to Californians is almost completely non-existent, she calls bullshit: "I'm just a trial lawyer, but I know that radiation comes across the ocean." No bullshit here, Rayno!

Watch them fight, it's funny.

Glenn Beck warns: 'The perfect storm' is beginning

'These are not enemies of man. These are enemies of God'

MEDIA MATTERS

By Joe Kovacs

© 2011 WorldNetDaily

Media giant Glenn Beck is warning that a "perfect storm" of problems in America and the world has begun, and he's urging people to turn to God to deal with it.

Glenn Beck

"These problems, as you are beginning to see," Beck said on his radio program this morning, "we are experiencing now the perfect storm, the beginnings of the perfect storm that I outlined to you years ago and now you can see how when I was talking about it and everybody was saying 'Shut up! Who cares? It's not going to happen.'

"You're beginning to see it now and you can know why I was crying all the time. Because I saw this in advance. It doesn't take a genius to do it. You can see it if you would just open your mind."

Beck, who often invokes God in his commentary, continued, "It is an overwhelming force and it is global in nature and it is evil in nature. You must be as good and as light as the evil is evil, bad and dark. These are not enemies of man. These are enemies of God, and He will sort things out. You must stand in righteousness."

"Here is the most dangerous thing I could say on the radio or on television," Beck said. "God is the only answer. There is no hope, there is no victory without a people that understand light, goodness and God."

Beck then issued a call for listeners to take a stand against any kind of evil in their personal lives.

"If you don't say something now, it's only going to get harder and harder and harder," he said. "You think it's gonna get easier to talk to your friends about God? You think it's gonna be easier to talk to your spouse about, 'Hey, let's clean up our lives'? You think it's gonna get easier to talk to your kids and tell them, 'Hey, knock it off' or 'You don't need all of that stuff?' It's not going to get easier. It's going to get harder because the world is going down in the other direction. You gotta stop now. You've got to turn your life around now."

Beck played audio at times from Nation of Islam founder Louis Farrakhan, and made reference to an end-times Muslim leader known as "the Mahdi."

"This [the uprising in the Middle East] is a sign that the great Mahdi that the Muslim world has been looking for is present in the world," Farrakhan noted.

Beck remarked, ""If you look at the Mahdi / the 12th Imam, he really is the biblical antichrist."

Iran ordered attack on Israeli civilians

On holiday commemorating how Jews were saved from Persia

FROM WND'S JERUSALEM BUREAU

Gaza rocket attack

JERUSALEM – Iran ordered Hamas to fire the massive barrage of rockets launched from the Gaza Strip at Jewish population zones in recent days, according to a senior Israeli security official.

The official said Iran was concerned Hamas was considering moderating its position during ongoing talks to form a government with the U.S.-backed Palestinian Authority.

"Incredibly, the attacks against Israel have little to do with Hamas' confrontation with Jews and was more about internal political posturing," the official said.

Ironically, the allegedly Iranian-ordered rocket and mortar barrage over this past weekend came as the Jewish state was celebrating Purim. The holiday commemorates the events in the Book of Esther – when the Jews were saved from the genocidal intentions of the viceroy of Persia, which is modern-day Iran.

The rocket onslaught also came after Israel seized a ship carrying a large quantity of weaponry the Jewish state says originated in Iran and was intended for Hamas in Gaza.

"The source of the weapons is Iran, which is trying to arm Gaza," Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said March 15, the day Israel intercepted the ship.

Hamas this past weekend fired more than 50 mortars and rockets from Gaza into southern Israel. On Sunday, it launched a long-range Grad rocket at the strategic port city of Ashkelon, which contains a power plant that supplied most of Gaza's electricity.

In an unusual move, Hamas claimed direct responsibility for 10 of the rockets. Usually, Hamas claims third-party groups in Gaza are behind such attacks.

Hamas which rules the Gaza Strip, claimed responsibility for 10 of Saturday's rockets, an unusual move after a long period in which it had let other smaller militant groups do its bidding.

U.S. funds to pay Hamas salaries?

WND reported last week the Palestinian Authority has quietly offered to place tens of thousands of Hamas security forces on its payroll if Hamas joins in a unity government.

The PA is funded in large part by the U.S. and Europe.

Earlier this month, WND reported the PA has been engaged in an intense effort to convince the Hamas terrorist organization to join it in a new unity government.

According to a senior PA official, the PA has been sending mediators to Hamas in an effort to persuade it into a unity deal.

Now, WND has learned the PA has engaged in intense marathon talks with Hamas the past three days. As part of its latest list of incentives, the PA has offered to place between 15,000 and 20,000 of Hamas' forces in Gaza on official PA salary if Hamas joins in a unity government.

The technical explanation being given by PA sources is that the Palestinian leadership feels it better to maintain one major financial apparatus to pay all security forces, instead of having a separate governmental system in Gaza run by Hamas.

Monthly salaries of Hamas security officers in Gaza typically range from between 800 and 1,500 shekel, or between $244 and $421.

Aside from an accommodation on salaries, the PA is ready to give Hamas full official security control of the Gaza Strip if the Islamist organization agrees to form a unity government, according to a PA official who previously spoke to WND.

In 2007, Hamas seized Gaza from the PA and since then has maintained a de facto government in the territory. While Hamas largely controls Gaza, the PA still has militias there that are influential in key areas.

The PA official, who spoke to WND on condition of anonymity, said that Hamas would not need to recognize the existence of Israel as a precondition for entering a new unity government.

He said Hamas is being asked to commit itself to previous Palestinian agreements, which would include those signed with Israel, without actually recognizing the specific agreements with Israel. The PA official admitted the request appears to be contradictory.

The PA official told WND that recent developments in Egypt and the greater Arab world force the Palestinian leadership to take a public position against the U.S.

"The Obama administration's abandonment of [U.S. ally President Hosni] Mubarak in Egypt sent a big sign to the moderate Arab world that we can no longer depend on American support," said the official.

The official further argued that popular sentiment on the Palestinian streets dictates the PA must orient itself away from the U.S.

Indeed, the PA's official media outlets have been railing against the U.S. in recent weeks, with 28 PA municipalities even announcing boycotts of "the American consulate, its diplomats, and the American institutions in Jerusalem," according to a translation by Palestinian Media Watch.

In direct response to the protests that already toppled regimes in Tunisia and Egypt, the PA two weeks ago announced it finally will hold long-delayed parliamentary and presidential elections in September.

Preacher predicts the world's end

A durable doomsday preacher predicts the world's end — again

Kimberly Winston, Religion News Service

OAKLAND — Save the date: May 21, 2011.

By Kimberly Winston

Preacher Harold Camping, shown in his study in Oakland, Calif., is gaining attention for his prophecy that on May 21, 2011 Jesus will return and the righteous will fly up to heaven,

If preacher Harold Camping is right, that's the exact date Jesus will return and the righteous will fly up to heaven, leaving behind only their clothes.

That will be followed by five months of fire, brimstone and plagues, with millions of people dying each day and corpses piling in the streets. Finally, on Oct. 21, the world ends exactly as the Book of Revelation says it will — with a bottomless pit, a lake of fire and, at last, a new heaven and new earth.

Doomsday preachers come and go, but at nearly 90 years old, the spry Camping has managed to ignite a nationwide movement that has garnered national attention.

Camping is not an ordained pastor with a church, and has no formal religious training. He can't read or speak Greek, Hebrew or Jesus' native Aramaic. His main predictive tool rests by his side in his wood-paneled office that looks like it was borrowed from the set of AMC's Mad Men.

"I made a very deliberate decision to make the Bible my university," Camping said, reaching for his battered, brown King James Bible and flipping nimbly through pages with marked-up margins and taped-up tears.

"I bought a Bible with a good leather cover. This is the sixth one. When you use them all the time they wear out."

The same can't be said for Camping. Since the 1950s, he has broadcast his views via Family Radio, a global network of Christian stations where he now serves as unpaid president and primary on-air talent. His teachings air worldwide five nights a week via Open Forum, a call-in show that draws listeners as far away as China and Ghana.

"Thank you for calling Open Forum," Camping has said countless times in his trademark baritone, "and shall we take our next call, please?"

One of those callers is Chris McCann, an independent preacher who is part of a Philadelphia group of Camping followers that is spreading the word about May 21.

"God has put his stamp of approval that this is the day," McCann said in a telephone interview. "I don't doubt it, and I don't look at the possibility of May 22 happening."

Neither does Camping. Asked how he arrived at the date, he opened his Bible to Genesis and said Noah loaded animals into the ark in 4990 B.C., a number he said he arrived at years ago after looking at carbon dating, tree rings and other data. Paging forward to 2 Peter, he read aloud, "one day is with the Lord as a thousand years and a thousand years is one day."

Leafing back to Genesis, he said that the seven days Noah spent loading the ark was really 7,000 years. He then added 7,000 to 4990 B.C to arrive at 2010. He added one more year, he said, because there is no year one in the Bible.

As for the exact date of May 21, he pointed again to Genesis, which says the flood began on the "17th day of the second month." According to the Jewish calendar, which he believes God uses, that is May 21.

"Now I am telling you, that gets pretty heavy when you see this coming right out of the Bible," he said, looking up from his Bible's dog-eared pages.

Camping finds further proof in the headlines: same-sex marriage, devastation in Japan, popular uprisings across the Arab world. They're all divine warnings of the earthly obliteration to come.

"There are still people that God has to save, and he uses them to get them to cry out for his mercy," Camping said.

Camping is not the first to be enthralled with biblical numerology. In the 1500s, Scottish mathematician John Napier invented logarithms to better predict Jesus' return. American farmer William Miller (the founder of Seventh-day Adventism) picked dates in 1843 and 1844. More recently, Chen Tao, a group based in Garland, Texas, predicted God's return in the late 1990s.

A poll conducted last year by the Pew Research Center for the People & the Press found that 41% of Americans expect Jesus' return before 2040. But pinpointing an exact date is unusual, said John R. Hall, a sociology professor and author of "Apocalypse," an examination of doomsday groups.

"What is interesting is that (Camping) is claiming he is studying the Bible and this is what the Bible says," Hall said. "That is a very different thing than saying God has spoken to me and this is what has been revealed. It leaves him quite a bit of wiggle room."

Camping has wiggled before. He first predicted Jesus' return in 1994 in a book named for that year — but with a big question mark at the end. While writing the book, he said the year 2011 began to come up in his calculations, but 1994 was more prominent.

When the year came and went, Camping explained that he was wrong and needed more study. "It just was a cudgel to keep studying," he said.

Camping was once well-regarded in the evangelical community, both for his encyclopedic knowledge of Scripture and his radio empire. But in the late 1980s, when he began teaching that churches have strayed from the Bible and embraced false doctrine, he lost much of that support.

He announced his current prediction in his 2005 book, Time Has an End, and spreads the word through tracts, postcards and his radio shows. The final countdown has brought an international billboard campaign and a fleet of 20 decorated recreational vehicles that tour the country like movable billboards.

One set of RVs came to the University of Oregon, where Daniel Wojcik is a professor of folklore and author of The End of the World As We Know It, a study of end-times groups. Wojcik said prophets and their followers generally regroup after their prophesy fails, often recommitting themselves to the prophet.

"People try to rationalize it," he said. "Often they say the end didn't come, but a spiritual transformation took place, so the prediction was right on. Then there is the test-of-faith response, where they say, 'Well, we weren't ready for it.' Or he (Camping) might just admit to being wrong."

Asked about that, Camping does not hesitate.

"I do not even think about that possibility because I am trusting the Bible implicitly."

His followers, in turn, are trusting Camping. Allison Warden, a 29-year-old office manager in Raleigh, N.C., runs a website, WeCanKnow.com, dedicated to spreading news of Camping's predictions. But what if he is wrong?

"It is a fair enough question," she said. "But the fact that it is in Scripture is why you can say it with such a degree of certainty. It's one of those things where you have to trust God."
