Plutonium in Troubled Reactors, Spent Fuel Pools

The fuel rods at all six reactors at the stricken Fukushima Dai-ichi complex contain plutonium — better known as fuel for nuclear weapons. While plutonium is more toxic than uranium, other radioactive elements leaking out are likely to be of greater danger to the general public.

Only six percent of the fuel rods at the plant’s Unit 3 were a mixture of plutonium-239 and uranium-235 when first put into operation. The fuel in other reactors is only uranium, but even there, plutonium is created during the fission process.

This means the fuel in all of the stricken reactors and spent fuel pools contain plutonium.

Plutonium is indeed nasty stuff, especially damaging to lungs and kidneys. It is also less stable than uranium and can more easily spark a dangerous nuclear chain reaction.

Japan nuclear crisis: Is massive water dump making any difference?

As Japan races against time to control its nuclear crisis, the cooling pools for the spent fuel rods at the Fukushima nuclear plant remain a source of major concern. On Friday water levels in at least one pool – housed in the Unit 3 reactor building – were dangerously low, according to Japanese authorities.

The bad news is that enough fuel rods remain in the pools that, if exposed to air for a long enough period of time, it is theoretically possible that they could burn and melt into a pile of fissile rubble dense enough to restart a nuclear chain reaction.

Tokyo Electric Power said earlier this week that the possibility of such “recriticality” occurring in the pools is not zero. If it happened the pools would then in essence have turned into running mini-reactors, and begin emitting much more heat and dangerous radiation.

Pouring water laced with boron into a pool would help stop such a reaction, as boron absorbs neutrons which are emitted during a nuclear reaction. Japan on Thursday announced plans to import 150 tons of boron from South Korea and France to replenish its stocks.

Nuclear update: Entire reactor core stored in fuel pond

Japan has raised the accident level at the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant to 5 on an international scale of 7, according to the Kyodo news agency and NHK. The partial meltdown at Three Mile Island in 1979 also ranked as a level 5. But there was some good news.

The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) said on Friday that the situation at reactors 1,2 and 3 appears to remain fairly stable. The spent-fuel ponds at units 3 and 4, however, remain an important safety concern. Reliable, validated information is still lacking on water levels and temperatures at the spent fuel ponds, but the IAEA announced on Friday that prior to the earthquake,

The entire fuel core of reactor Unit 4 of the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant had been unloaded from the reactor and placed in the spent fuel pond located in the reactor’s building.

This would explain the fear yesterday that the spent fuel in the Unit 4 pond could go critical (see 18:20, 16 March update, below).

Based on radar over the Pacific from The Weather Channel, a massive storm is headed directly for the U.S. and Canadian West Coast, which broke off from a larger formation (shown below) that was more than 2000 miles wide on March 17, 2011. The formation passed over Japan during its nuclear plant’s meltdown, and may well match predictions that radiation could reach the West Coast.

Absent further deterioration at the Fukushima plant over the weekend, the next big shoe to drop will be public reaction when the radioactive fallout hits Tokyo (and other major populated areas). And juging by the latest data available from Central Institute for Meteorology and Geodynamics (ZAMG) in Austria, Tokyo, which so far has been spared by friendly winds, may get its first dose of radiation by the weekend. Below we present the latest animated color-coded data for both Japan and the world, which extrapolates both fallout strength and direction.

As ZAMG explains the fallout is, “currently in a critical region, dominated by a westerly flow. On the ground, the wind is relatively weak. There is no precipitation. Soon the wind will blow from the south-east and intensify. On Sunday rain front will arrive from the southwest to the crisis area and lead to some strong precipitation (radioactive rain). Behind the front, northerly winds are forecast, so the situation for the Tokyo area may again be critical. The dispersion calculations show fallout is now mainly transported to the sea. Currently cloud have a southeast direction, which will change to northeast tomorrow (see illustrations). Subsequently, more areas in Japan will be covered by fallout.”

(NaturalNews) Based on all available reports at this time, it appears that the Japanese government has been severely downplaying the very real radiation threat the Japanese people face in the wake of the 9.1 magnitude earthquake and massive tsunami that occurred last Friday, which has left tens of thousands of people dead and missing, and numerous towns and cities in ruin. But now, a report has surfaced claiming that the Japanese government has been lying to those living close to the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear reactor and pretending that the impending meltdown is not a significant threat.

Mayor Katsunobu Sakurai, Mayor of Minamisoma, population 71,000, says that immediately after the earthquake and tsunami, government officials ignored his calls asking for advice on how to handle the situation. Minamisoma, which sits a mere 12 miles downwind from the Fukushima plant, was devastated by the tsunami, and many of its residents are still missing, according to a recent report in the UK Daily Mail.

When Sakurai was finally able to get through to officials days after the disaster, they assured him there was nothing to worry about — this despite the fact that the radioactive plumes being released from the Fukushima plant are literally visible with the naked eye when peering northwest out of the Minamisoma. So being a trusting man, Sakurai believed them and consequently did not instruct his people to evacuate.

But when Sakurai finally discovered that authorities were deliberately withholding the true severity of the nuclear fallout situation from both him and the people of Minamisoma, he was outraged. His city is just outside the government’s recommended radius for evacuation, but is still close enough to be harmed by radiation. He told reporter David Jones from the Daily Mail the following, via an interpreter:

“Of course I am angry. I was ignored and then badly misled, and as a result the people were abandoned here to die. But I was the one who told them it was safe to stay, and now I have decided that I must be the last person to leave this city. I have been in my office since last Friday, and I won’t go until the last person has left safely.”

This deliberate act of defiant, but courageous, action is likely to be followed by many others in surrounding towns and cities that are coming to realize that the Japanese government, for whatever reason, is not telling people the whole truth about the reactor and its dangers. Hopefully by the time they do take action, it will not be already be too late for them.

It is important to note that the same officials who have been lying to the Japanese people are also telling the world that the situation at the Fukushima Daiichi reactors is under control, and that radiation levels are minimal. But based on their track record of honesty, can we honestly just take their word for it at this point?

Even though roughly half of Minamisoma’s 71,000 people are said to have been evacuated as of the evening of March 17, there is no telling whether or not the levels of radiation they have already been exposed to within the past few several days will cause them any immediate or long-term damage. Our heart go out to them as they seek shelter and safety from the radioactive nightmare brewing right before their eyes.

One of the goals to be reached before a national state can be completely controlled, is the implementation of computer chips in every product, every animal and every human being. What? Chips in all humans, animals and products? It is a scenario that most people actually can not yet imagine, but the shocking truth is that the target almost all realized: for instance, every pet is required to be chipped and many products such as clothing and food packages already have a chip.

A step toward chipping man too, seems finally made; Advert Buddi is a new GPS tracking system that can be used, for example, to monitor your old mother and to intervene quickly in emergencies. Under the slogan “Protect your loved ones with Buddi.” The ‘buddy’ in this case is a device that in a purse can indicate grandma’s position. Something like a mobile phone nowadays can also reveal where you are (or were). It also warns Grandma’s loved ones when grandmothers go out of their “security zones”. And to top it all off, it gives a signal as the carrier of the buddy has fallen, probably by a sensor that triggers at a certain speed (to earth in this case). Sounds great, but we know what the next step is, subcutaneous injection of a chip. Because grandma is a little forgetful and sometimes forgets her purse. “Let’s just inject a chip in grandma’s front leg!.” We can already predict the next victims: children, prisoners … and ourselves.

Many new technology is often used first by the army. Sometime later, the technology (in a diluted version then) becomes available to the people. This also applies to the Internet, GPS systems, and finally chipping everything and everyone. Vehicles and soldiers are now equipped with GPS systems. Soldiers still carry a chip on/in their clothing. But the danger of loss or abuse of the chip by the enemy, for example, after killing a soldier, makes the reality to chip the soldiers themselves, a bit closer. One obstacle could be that the costs of such operations are too high.

In 2002, A family in America was the first family in the world who had a VeriChip implanted. The reasons were the unstable health of man and the fear that arose after 9/11. Now I will be the last person who would ban a chip to take it when his/her health or safety can benefit from it. But when will the governments, banks and insurance companies impose on the masses? Under the disguise of bringing down the cost of medical care, economic facilities, or the occurrence of hysteria? It is also not known what the effects of a continuous chip is or can be.

But also companies are starting to consider chipping their employees, also chipping in the nightlife seems to be a trend with such a chip to pay. As in the Baja Beach club in Rotterdam.

This payment option is now offered with the iPhone and Web browser. IBM will make it especially easy for the consumer or as another way to put it: for the benefit of the buyer (Arent they nice, IBM, the inventors of the Holleriths Gascamp Jew Registration system)

At several schools in England and America children already pay with a type of chip system. And let’s not forget: the Colleges in the Netherlands, were you can only pay with a “chipknip” this is to condition everyone (young and young adults) to the idea that electronic payment is normal. That the youngsters are being pushed toward electronic payment, is obvious. In Belgium, at some childcare centre’s its only possible to enter, after having your fingerprint scanned.

The history of marking people

Wanting to register and mark all humans is older than the road to Rome. A road to totalitarian control or just for prosperity and ease? That remains to be seen. But people have always been branded or maimed to make their status or the being-in-service-of (slavery) clear.

Well just because they were part of the elite that the war had supported and encouraged. The fact is that many companies were pardoned after the war. The fact that they were wrong was concealed. Perhaps one reason that IBM has been slipping thrue the hoops of the law is, the fact that they had invented a simultaneous translation system, in which the Nuremberg trials could be conducted in a language understood by all, yet. The same company (IBM) and other companies are now on the eve of a further Executive system: the chipping of humans. IBM has used the latest techniques in creating a system that not only can track someone’s every move, but it can also predict it, then secretly send that information to company’s for use, for example, by giving you ads based on a given profile.

The system IBM has made is actually still used today. Only then smarter, faster and more unnoticed in driving an authoritarian totalitarian state. The dangers of the VeriChip.

Animals have already been chipped so that their owners are easy to trace back: by loss or for veterinary medical information needs. But how safe are these chips and what after studies have been done? You would expect from the Dutch Party for the Animals, to be strongly against this, given that the animal eventually will be severely suffering. There were provisions in the legislation that everyone has the right of self-determination over their own bodies. The boss of the company behind the devastated Japanese nuclear reactor today broke down in tears – as his country finally acknowledged the radiation spewing from the over-heating reactors and fuel rods was enough to kill some citizens

Japan’s Nuclear and Industrial Safety Agency admitted that the disaster was a level 5, which is classified as a crisis causing ‘several radiation deaths’ by the UN International Atomic Energy.

Officials said the rating was raised after they realized the full extent of the radiation leaking from the plant. They also said that 3 per cent of the fuel in three of the reactors at the Fukushima plant had been severely damaged, suggesting those reactor cores have partially melted down.
