The WSJ reports:
Mayor Michael Bloomberg and Gov. David Paterson have asked the federal government to bar New York City food-stamp recipients from using the benefit to buy sugary drinks, an effort to determine if the move would decrease obesity and diabetes problems.
The request, sent late Wednesday to the U.S. Department of Agriculture, could affect an estimated 1.7 million city residents who receive food stamps. As much as $135 million in federal nutrition benefits is used to buy sugar-sweetened drinks, the mayor’s office said. . .
Food-stamp users cannot use benefits to buy alcohol and cigarettes. The request asks that the USDA allow city officials to have two years to assess if sugary-drink purchases drop, as well as problems associated with diabetes and obesity, a mayoral spokeswoman said. The proposal would not affect the total benefits received, she said.
So is this an example of over-weening paternalism? Or is it a responsible limitation on government assistance?

The Obama-run Washington bureaucracy has classified a common and reliable rifle, the M1 Garand, as a "threat to public safety in the U.S.," and the State Department has canceled plans by the Republic of Korea to return tens of thousands of surplus rifles to the U.S. for sale in the consumer market.

A Background Glimpse of the United States' Secret Government

In the latter part of 1994 through the first several months of 1995 prior to the Million Man March, a group of Sisters from the Washington, D.C. area, along with myself, began the initial study and research of some of the monuments located on the Washington Mall. This survey included the Washington Monument, the Lincoln Memorial, the Thomas Jefferson Memorial, the Capitol Dome, the White House and the Library of Congress, which led to a visit to the George Washington Masonic Memorial building located in Alexandria, Virginia,
across the Potomac River. We were amazed at some of our findings and the openness of our official guides who helped us in our investigation. Some of these findings were published in the Million Man March book in time for the awesome Historical Event of the Million Man March. This book came as a result of a concerted effort on the part of several sisters whose names are printed fully in the front part of the book. We did not include, at the time, further research and investigation into the origins and operations of the Smithsonian Institution until recently.
I had been involved with the Smithsonian years ago in a coordinated program connected to Genghis Khan and the Mongolian Nation, including the musical connection to YoYo Ma, major cellist performer, world renowned, and director of the Silk Road Project. Because of the urgency of the Hour and the major focus of World Events being focused on the Nation of Islam's origin and findings by Master W. F. Muhammad in 1930, I would like to share with our readers some of my own findings as a bearing of witness to what lies ahead in the very near future and our connection to the United States government and why. In the Theology of Time lecture series, delivered by the Honorable Elijah Muhammad during the month of June, July, August, September and October 1972, he introduced some of the descriptions of the Mother's Wheel and her companion Baby Planes, her purpose and its Work in Revealing a whole new civilization.

The Honorable Elijah Muhammad made a reference to a break-in on our temple grounds in Detroit, Michigan where the drawings of this awesome Mother's Wheel was exhibited. He further states that it was in the hands of the FBI who have been studying this phenomenon and its advance technology ever since. He stated that they are aware of the Mechanics of the Mother's Wheel and are seeking, through their military apparatus and Agenda, to find a place in outer space on the moon or elsewhere to launch an attack with their bomb targeting this great wheel in the sky, which they cannot do. In this regard, he stated that there are scientists on board who can tune in on the thinking of the people, and as Jesus did with this telepathic ability, he could move quickly in the opposite direction, away from the Jews' plan to kill him. The Secret Government of the United States is basically run by the military who are planning, night and day, for this ultimate war in the air. The Honorable Minister Farrakhan was informed by the Honorable Elijah Muhammad in his Vision-like Experience on board the Great Mother's Wheel, that the president and his Joint Chiefs of Staff (War Department) were planning a war somewhere on our planet.
Let us stop for a moment and reflect over the foundation of the United States Government and its institutions which have all been put on alert about this present and ominous future event. They are keeping this knowledge as “Top Secret” from the American citizens and the world while they are persecuting and targeting the Honorable Minister Louis Farrakhan and the Nation of Islam in the same way that the Roman elite and the Jews conspired night and day on how they would take Jesus and kill him. This is taking place today in their rage to kill “The Messenger” and the Message that it may not unstop our ears and our hearts in knowing the truth that we might be free.
Prior to the Million Man March, I mailed a letter to the then-President, Bill Clinton and his wife, Hillary Clinton, explaining to the best of my ability the purpose of the Million Man March so that they, nor their government, should be alarmed at this peaceful assembly of the Million Man March being Divinely Orchestrated under the divine call of the Honorable Minister Louis Farrakhan. The day prior to the Million Man March, I received a letter that was mailed to me from the White House and signed by the President who was thanking me for my words which was helping him in the process of making changes in his administration that would be more supportive of all American citizens. Mr. Clinton, as history has proven, had to do what he had to do during his two terms in office as president. Then came the election of President George Bush, Jr., who was succeeded by the first Black president in America's history, Barack Obama. The die has now been set for the prophetic fulfillment of another stage in the history of Jesus and the Messiah who is now present on the world scene.

“High Crimes,” a round table presentation geared to showcase several of the most scandalous.

Jesuit Father Bill Bichsel, 82, Jesuit Father Stephen Kelly, 61, Sacred Heart Sister Anne Montgomery, 83, Baltimorean Susan Crane, 65, and Lynne Greenwald, 61, entered their pleas Oct. 8 with Magistrate Judge Karen L. Strombom of the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Washington. They are charged with conspiracy, trespass, destruction of property on a naval installation and depradation of government property.
Strombom set a Dec. 7 trial for the defendants, who call themselves the Disarm Now Plowshares.
