House Republican: Pope should stay out of politics - I AGREE!

It was just five months ago that Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal (R) said he wants leaders from the faith community to “rise up and engage America in the public square with Biblical values.” The likely Republican presidential candidate added, “The time has come for pastors to lead the way and reset the course of American governance.”

This is not an uncommon sentiment in GOP politics. As the party continues to move sharply to the right, Republican hostility towards church-state separation has become the norm. In culture-war debates over gay rights and reproductive rights, for example, the right routinely argues that policymakers should heed the appeals from religious leaders.

More generally, conservatives express alarm about the left trying to push voices from the faith community “out of the public square.” It’s these religious leaders, the GOP argues, that should help guide public debate.

With this in mind, it seemed almost miraculous to see this Politico piece yesterday.
After Pope Francis moved to recognize a Palestinian state, some gung-ho defenders of Israel suggested the pontiff should stick to preaching and stay out of politics.

“It’s interesting how the Vatican has gotten so political when ultimately the Vatican ought to be working to lead people to Jesus Christ and salvation, and that’s what the Church is supposed to do,” said Rep. Jeff Duncan (R-S.C.), a hawkish defender of Israel.
Note, a variety of lawmakers expressed public disagreement – and in some cases, deep disappointment – with Pope Francis’s move towards officially recognizing Palestinians. And to be sure, there’s nothing wrong with a spirited debate, with some American policymakers on one side and the Catholic leader on the other.

But that’s not what Rep. Jeff Duncan (R-S.C.) said, exactly. Rather, he suggested Pope Francis should stay out of the debate altogether – the Vatican can focus on spiritual matters, the South Carolinian argued, and stay out of politics.

Imagine that. When church leaders condemn abortion, congressional Republicans shout, “Amen.” When the pope enters a foreign policy debate, suddenly we effectively hear, “Mind your own business, padre.”

Indeed, when President Reagan worked with Pope John Paul II on a variety of issues, Republicans saw it as an important diplomatic partnership. But now that it’s President Obama and Pope Francis who are often aligned – on climate change, on Iran nuclear talks, on diplomacy with Cuba, on economic inequality, on pay equity for women – and some GOP officials suddenly aren’t pleased at all with the Vatican’s interest in contemporary politics.

Over at Daily Kos, Laura Clawson added, “Republicans have shown time and time again that they have no problem whatsoever with religion in politics. Now we know how particular they are about whose religion and whose politics. Catholic leaders in politics are fine as long as they’re threatening to deny communion to Democrats over abortion, but let a pope talk about economic inequality and poverty and suddenly Republicans discover that they’d really prefer it if religious leaders would keep quiet and let politicians speak for them.”

Francis will deliver a speech to a joint session of Congress in the fall, at the invitation of House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio). It’s bound to be interesting.

Adventist Church in North America Issues Statement on Ben Carson's U.S. Presidential Bid

“Care should be taken that the pulpit and all church property remain a neutral space when it comes to elections.”

Editor’s note: The Seventh-day Adventist Church’s North American Division has released this statement about the May 4 announcement of Dr. Ben Carson, retired neurosurgeon and Adventist member, that he will seek the Republican Party nomination for U.S. president.

As the 2016 United States election cycle begins, the Seventh-day Adventist Church is aware of the increased interest in the presidential candidacy of Dr. Ben Carson.

Dr. Carson’s story is well known to most Adventists, and he is a well-respected physician.

The Adventist Church has a longstanding position of not supporting or opposing any candidate for elected office. This position is based both on our historical position of separation of church and state and the applicable federal law relating to the church’s tax-exempt status.

While individual church members are free to support or oppose any candidate for office as they see fit, it is crucial that the church as an institution remain neutral on all candidates for office. Care should be taken that the pulpit and all church property remain a neutral space when it comes to elections.Church employees must also exercise extreme care not to express views in their denominational capacity about any candidate for office, including Dr. Carson.

We also want to remind our church members, pastors, and administrators of the church’s official position on the separation of church and state. The church has worked diligently to protect the religious rights of all people of faith, no matter what their denominational affiliation.

“We should therefore work to establish robust religious liberty for all and should not use our influence with political and civil leaders to either advance our faith or inhibit the faith of others.

Adventists should take civic responsibilities seriously. We should participate in the voting process available to us when it is possible to do so in good conscience and should share the responsibility of building our communities. Adventists should not, however, become preoccupied with politics, or utilize the pulpit or our publications to advance political theories.” (From an official Seventh-day Adventist Church statement, adopted by the Council of Interchurch/Interfaith Relations of the Seventh-day Adventist Church in March 2002.)

The Seventh-day Adventist Church values Dr. Carson as we do all members. However, it is important for the church to maintain its long-standing historical support for the separation of church and state by not endorsing or opposing any candidate.

Pope Francis announced a special Jubilee Year starting Dec. 8, It's only the 27th time in the history of the Catholic Church that there has been a Holy Year. Holy Years allow the faithful to receive special indulgences, ways to repair the damage of sin beyond the absolution granted by going to confession. The year begins with the symbolic opening of the Holy Door of St. Peter's Basilica.

Scientists Claim That The Universe Is A Giant Brain

Written by Steven Bancarz| We often speak of the universe being a reflection of ourselves, and point to how the eye, veins, and brain cells mirror visual phenomenon in the natural universe. As above so below right? Well check this out. How about the idea that the universe is a giant brain? The idea of the universe as a ‘giant brain’ has been proposed by scientists and science fiction writers for decades, but now physicists say there may be some evidence that it’s actually true (in a sense).
According to a study published in Nature’s Scientific Reports, the universe may be growing in the same way as a giant brain – with the electrical firing between brain cells ‘mirrored’ by the shape of expanding galaxies. The results of a computer simulation suggest that “natural growth dynamics” – the way that systems evolve – are the same for different kinds of networks – whether its the internet, the human brain or the universe as a whole.
When the team compared the universe’s history with growth of social networks and brain circuits, they found all the networks expanded in similar ways: They balanced links between similar nodes with ones that already had many connections. For instance, a cat lover surfing the Internet may visit mega-sites such as Google or Yahoo, but will also browse cat fancier websites or YouTube kitten videos. In the same way, neighboring brain cells like to connect, but neurons also link to such “Google brain cells” that are hooked up to loads of other brain cells.

“The new study suggests a single fundamental law of nature may govern these networks”, said physicist Kevin Bassler of the University of Houston. “”For a physicist it’s an immediate signal that there is some missing understanding of how nature works,” says Dmitri Krioukov from the University of California San Diego.
As summarized by the original study: “Here we show that the causal network representing the large-scale structure of spacetime in our accelerating universe is a power-law graph with strong clustering, similar to many complex networks such as the Internet, social, or biological networks. We prove that this structural similarity is a consequence of the asymptotic equivalence between the large-scale growth dynamics of complex networks and causal networks.”

So this may seem weird, but let’s think about this.  Scientists always talk about consciousness being the underlying fabric of the universe from which all things emerge (M-theory, Unified Field Theory, etc. see work of Dr. Amit Goswami and Dr. John Hagelin). So not only is the fabric of the universe conscious like a brain, it is growing like a brain as well. But here’s a question…a brain to what? Is it possible we exist as a thought within the mind of some Super Intelligence? Are we just brain cells operating within a Cosmic Mind? Maybe, maybe not, but it’s fascinating to think about.

Catholic Judge Orders Atheist Dad To Attend Mass With His Kids As Part Of Divorce Settlement

AUTHOR JANUARY 20, 2015 8:12 PM
So much for an unbiased judiciary system. British Roman Catholic Judge James Orrell has ruled that a divorced atheist father must take his two sons to Catholic mass – and sit through the service – when he has custody. During the case, Judge Orrell openly stated that he himself was a Catholic – making it hard to believe that the judge’s personal beliefs did not have an effect on his ruling.
The British atheist is a 51-year-old psychologist named Steve –  who is also known as Anonymous Steve from the Skepticule podcast. It seems that Ornell singled Steve out, because although Steve’s ex-wife is Catholic, she is not required to take the children to mass. Part of the court transcript reads:
“If the children are with their father at Christmas he will undertake that they will attend the Christmas mass.”
Steve has tried to appeal this ruling, but the higher courts won’t hear it. If Steve doesn’t obey Orrell’s orders, he could be facing contempt of court and even a jail sentence! Steve said:
“It’s all very bizarre. This aspect of the contact order was not requested by the other side in the case. The judge decided that I would commit to taking the children to mass and he put it in the court order.
What I think is really concerning is that it does not allow me or my children any freedom of religious expression. I am definitely not Catholic. The last time I went to church was some time ago and it was a Unitarian church that I attended.”
This ruling will be enforced until the children are 18 years old, even if the kids decide they are atheists – which sounds like it could be a possibility. Steve explains:
“My oldest son, who is now 10, has already expressed a clear lack of belief but legally I am required to take him to Roman Catholic mass at Christmas.
Because my contact arrangements now give me the children on some weekends, I am concerned that I will now also be required to take them to mass on Sundays when they are with me, even though that is not part of the original order.”
Although Article 9 of the European Convention on Human Rights protects freedom of thought, conscience and religion, the courts refuse to overturn the ruling. The British Humanist Association is disgusted with Orrell’s decision. In a Facebook status, the association wrote:
“This strange judgment deserves to be overturn [sic], and shows some seriously wrongheaded thinking on the part of the judge about how the religious views of a parent, or a judge for that matter, should weigh against a young person’s own inalienable right to determine for themselves what they believe.”
This ruling was first imposed in 2009, and has had several legal revisions made to it since. Unfortunately, the unfair church attendance requirement continues to endure through those changes. Fortunately, Steve’s divorce settlement has recently become a more well-known case thanks to various news sources picking up the story.

The Daniel 70th Week Prophecy Pits Jesus Christ vs. Antichrist

The deceiver has caused Christians to believe in an end-times 70th Week Of Daniel, in order to deflect blame away from his true antichrist.

The seven years of the 70th week of Daniel are the most important in all of human history, because of the truth about their fulfillment, and because of the deceptions that are based on them.

Below are two timelines that give an explanation for the fulfillment of the 70th Week on Daniel prophecy, which is found in Daniel 9:26-27.
The first timeline was fulfilled by Jesus Christ.
The second timeline features an end times Antichrist.
The first timeline was taught for 1800 years.
The second timeline is now taught by today’s Pastors.
The first timeline represents God’s truth.
The second timeline represents Satan’s deception.
Here’s the 70th week of Daniel, as fulfilled by Jesus Christ from 27-34 A.D.:
It starts with Jesus beginning His ministry of confirming the Abrahamic covenant.
For 3.5 years, Jesus and His disciples ministered to the House of Israel.
Midway, Jesus was crucified for our sins, ending the need for Jewish temple sacrifices.
For 3.5 years, Jesus disciples ministered to the House of Judah. Some Jews accepted Jesus as their Messiah, but most rejected Him and persecuted His disciples.
At the end of the 7 years, Stephen was stoned to death by the Jewish leaders, finalizing their rejection of Jesus New Covenant.
Here’s the 70th week of Daniel, as it will be supposedly fulfilled by an end times Antichrist, after a 1,986+ year time gap:
It starts with the Antichrist making a 7-year peace covenant with Israel.
For 3.5 years, there would be relative peace.
Midway, the Antichrist would proclaim that he is God in a rebuilt Jewish temple.
For 3.5 years, there would be Great Tribulation.
At the end of the 7 years, Jesus would return to destroy the Antichrist.
Notice how the structure of both timelines is very similar, but their story lines are diametrically opposed.
Satan is the master deceiver, who manipulates Gods Words to deceive men.

The consequences of the 70 Weeks of Daniel deception are grand!

It causes Christians to look for an end times one-man Antichrist, instead of identifying the Roman Catholic Church as the beast of Revelation, the Little Horn of Daniel and the Pope, the Son of Perdition.
This is the very reason that the end times 7 year tribulation deception was created by the Roman Catholic Church.
They were being accused by the Protestant Reformers of being the Antichrist system who persecuted the saints.
The Protestant Reformers told people to ‘come out of her‘, which caused millions of people to leave the Roman Catholic Church and be saved by the pure Gospel of Jesus.
The Antichrist is not just a man who will enter a rebuilt Jewish temple in the end times.
It is the Roman Catholic Church who has inserted itself into the spiritual temple of Christianity by claiming to be Christian, but they are really the old Babylonian religion of Sun and Satan worshipers. That is why they are called Mystery Babylon.
Now, therefore, you are no longer strangers and foreigners, but fellow citizens with the saints and members of the household of God, having been built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ Himself being the chief corner stone, in whom the whole building, being joined together, grows into a holy temple in the Lord, in whom you also are being built together for a dwelling place of God in the Spirit.” Ephesians 2:19-22,
The Roman Catholic Church has been seated in the temple and proclaiming to be God since 538 A.D.  Antichrist doesn’t just mean against Christ, but it also means ‘in place of Christ.’  The Pope calls himself the ‘Vicar of Christ’ which means substitute Christ.

To read how they are hidden in the middle of the spiritual temple of Christianity, click on Antichrist In The Temple Deception

The 70 Weeks of Daniel is the only prophecy that revealed the exactyear that the Messiah would appear.

Other prophecies pointed to the coming Messiah, but only this one told them the exact year that He would appear.
That year was 27 A.D., when Jesus was baptized and anointed, and then He read from Isaiah in the temple and proclaimed that He was the Messiah. :-)
The 70 weeks of Daniel prophecy states that Messiah the Prince (Jesus) would appear after the 69th week (after 483 years). Calculating 483 years before 27 A.D., means that the starting point of the prophecy was 457 B.C. This matches the year that Artaxerxes decreed that the Jews were free to return to Jerusalem, and that they would receive his assistance in rebuilding the city and temple. (Ezra 7:13,20)
By putting the focus on an end times Antichrist, it removes the amazing fulfillment of Jesus ministry, and fulfillment of Jeremiah 31:31, “Behold, the days are coming, says the LORD, when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah.”
Despite their previous idolatry and sins against God, Jesus graciously offered the Israelites salvation. The foundation of the Christian Church is built on believers who came from the house of Israel and the house of Judah.
It de-emphasizes that the house of Israel and the house of Judah already returned to their land and were brought together under Jesus new covenant.
Instead we have been deceived to focus on the modern state of Israel as the fulfillment of prophecy.
To read a study that confirms that the regathering has already taken place, click onRegathering Of The Jews Deception
It removes the finality of Jesus judgment and execution of vengeance against the Jews.
In the Parable of the Landowner, the Parable of the Wedding Feast and in His “Woe to you” speech against the Jewish leaders, Jesus told them that because they rejected His new covenant, delivered Him up to be killed, and killed the prophets, He would desolate them, their city and the temple.
The “days of vengeance”, the “great tribulation as never has been before”,  the “time of Jacob’s trouble”, resulted in a total of 1.1 million Jews dying from famine, disease, 10’s of thousands by crucifixion, 100’s of thousands by infighting amongst themselves, 100’s of thousands by the Roman sword; and the rest were sold into slavery.
Jesus told the Jews, “Your house is left to you desolate; for I say to you, you shall see Me no more till you say, ‘Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord!’ “
The Sinai Covenant has been fulfilled and there is no way to heaven except through Jesus.  “There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is neither male nor female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus.” Galatians 3:28
It causes Christians to not understand end times theology, so that they mistakenly support the state of Israel.
Since the Israelites regathered before Jesus first coming, there is no need for a regathering before His second coming.
Jesus told the Jews that Jerusalem would be trampled by Gentiles until the time of the Gentiles is fulfilled.
But the time of the Gentiles is not over yet, so if the people in Israel are Jews, then that would make Jesus statement false.
But Jesus statement is proven true because 97% of people who call themselves Jews ARE NOT descendents of Abraham. They are Ashkenazi Jews, who are the descendents of Turkish-Mongols that converted to Judaism in the 8th century, making them Gentiles.
To learn about the DNA studies that prove that most Jews are not the descendents of Abraham, click on Jews Who Are Not Really Jews
To learn why Christians should not support the state of Israel, click on  Christians Should Not Support Israel
It causes Christians to believe that they will be raptured before they have to face the beast.
To read a Bible study that invalidates the concept of a pretribulation rapture, click onThe Pretribulation Rapture Myth
Instead of being prepared, they will run around like the foolish virgins looking for oil for their lamps.
When the economy collapses, when there are food and water shortages, when WWIII pits Christian America against Muslim countries, when the world is cast into despair; unprepared Christians will become desperate for help, just like the rest of the world.
Unprepared Christians will be ripe to accept the False Messiah who offers food, water and peace.  And they will be susceptible to worship the image of the beast, and deny Jesus, in order to preserve their earthly life.
Jesus told us to be alert and prepared.
The world will be desperate for hope and the fields will be ripe. Will you be able to help with the harvest?
Will you have a supply of spiritual oil of faith and love for your lamps, so that you will shine as a light in the dark world?
Will you be prepared to overcome by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of your testimony, and not love your lives to the death?

Sorry, Pope Francis: Protestants Are Converting Catholics Across Latin America

'Francis effect' may yet materialize. But for now, Catholics have hit record low across 19 nations and territories.

Sorry, Pope Francis: Protestants Are Converting Catholics Across Latin AmericaPEW RESEARCH CENTER
[Editor's note: CT also took a deeper look at differences between what Protestants believe and practice in each country.]
Enthusiasm for the first pope picked from Latin America has prompted predictions of a “Francis effect” revival among the region’s Roman Catholics. Time will tell, but a new report shows exactly what the former Archbishop Bergoglio of Buenos Aires is up against in his own backyard: Protestants are remarkably ascendent across 18 nations and one US territory.
For most of the last century, more than 90 percent of Latin Americans identified as Catholics. But now that number has hit a new low: 69 percent, according to athorough report on this "widespread change" released today by the Pew Research Center.
"Evangelization efforts by Protestant churches seem to be having an impact," notes Pew. Regionally, 84 percent of Latin American adults were raised as Catholics. But nearly 1 in 5 adults (19 percent) now identify as Protestants, while only 1 in 10 (9 percent) were raised as Protestants. (Similarly, the religiously unaffiliated have doubled from 4 percent as children to 8 percent as adults.)
"In nearly every country surveyed, the Catholic Church has experienced net losses from religious switching," notes Pew, and "much of the movement ... has occurred in the span of a single lifetime."
In most countries, more than one-third of current Protestants were raised as Catholics, and more than half were baptized as Catholics.
The trend holds true across "people of all ages and socioeconomic levels," but in most countries, pluralities converted before the age of 25.
Pew’s findings corroborate a recent examination of 18 nations by Latinobarómetro. “In the past, Latin America was completely dominated by Catholicism,” noted the respected Chilean research group in an April report. “Today, it’s a region where clearly more than one religion exists.”
Pew researchers conducted face-to-face interviews with more than 30,000 residents of 18 Latin American countries and Puerto Rico as part of the Pew-Templeton Global Religious Futures Project. (Cuba was the only Spanish-speaking country omitted.)
Latin America contains more than 425 million Catholics—nearly 40 percent of the world's total Catholic population, according to Pew.
“It is too soon to know whether Francis can stop or reverse the church’s losses in the region,” notes Pew. (The majority of surveys were conducted before Francis had concluded his first year in office.)
However, Pew's report does identify the primary reasons former Catholics became Protestants.
"Of the eight possible explanations offered on the survey, the most frequently cited was that they were seeking a more personal connection with God," notes Pew [see chart]. "Many former Catholics also said they became Protestants because they wanted a different style of worship or a church that helps its members more." More than half also "wanted a greater emphasis on morality." Marriage to a non-Catholic was only cited by 9 percent.
Notably, more than half of former Catholics (58 percent) say their new Protestant church reached out to them.
The countries where Catholics have experienced the largest declines: Nicaragua, Uruguay, Brazil, and El Salvador, all down approximatley 20 or more percentage points. (By comparison, US Hispanics have lost 22 percentage points.)
However, despite their substantial growth, Protestants have yet to break into the majority in any Latin American country.
The countries where Protestants have experienced the largest gains: Honduras (41 percent), Guatemala (41 percent), Nicaragua (40 percent), and El Salvador (36 percent).
As many as 74 percent of Colombian Protestants were raised Catholic, while only 15 percent of Panamanian Protestants converted from Catholicism. By comparison, nearly half of US Hispanics (47 percent) left Catholicism for Protestantism.
The survey suggests that the majority of former Catholics are skeptical about Pope Francis. Argentina, the pope’s homeland, and neighboring Uruguay are the only countries where majorities of former Catholics positively view the pope.
“In every other country in the survey, no more than roughly half of ex-Catholics view Francis favorably, and relatively few see his papacy as a major change in the Catholic Church,” notes Pew. “Many say it is too soon to have an opinion about the pope.”
Latin American Protestants also have different views than Catholics on the "most important way Christians can help the poor." Protestants believe "bringing the poor and needy to Christ" (47 percent) is more important than "performing charity work for the poor" (37 percent) or "persuading the government to protect the poor" (11 percent). By comparison, Catholics believe charity work (50 percent) is more important than evangelism (24 percent) or governmental efforts (19 percent).
Twelve Latin American countries still contain solid Catholic majorities, according to the Latinobarómetro study. In two countries, Chile and El Salvador, Catholics make up between 50 and 60 percent of the population, while in Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, and Uruguay, the Catholic Church no longer owns a majority.
Researchers also measured the yearly changes between the Protestant and Catholic populations from 1995 and 2013. “You can observe that in every country, with the exception of the Dominican Republic and Mexico, there has been a loss of Catholics occurring at the same time as the number of evangelicals has increased,” noted Latinobarómetro.
Below are the results for Honduras, Nicaragua, and Brazil. Researchers identified Honduras as the country with the “fastest and strongest change in religious beliefs out of all 18 Latin American countries.” Nicaragua was close behind.
CT first reported Protestants’ ascendency in Latin America in a 1992 cover story, and examined in 2009 whether the rapidly growing church was on the right track.
Regional coverage includes Brazil’s evangelicals making their voting bloc debut in 2010, a popular but controversial Christian parade, a notable church unity effort in Buenos Aires, Colombia being one of the world’s most violent mission fields, split political loyalties among Venezuelan evangelicals, Honduran evangelicals as agents of political change, and how missionary efforts in Ecuador finally yielded fruit.
